Honoring and Celebrating the Life of Miss Charlene - September 18, 2023

 

Morning by Morning, September 18 - Honoring and Celebrating the Life of Miss Charlene   Good morning, Lord Jesus. I draw near to You, and You draw near to me (James 4:8). I abide in You, and You abide in me (John 15:4). ...   On Saturday, I was honored to speak a few words in honor of our beloved Charlene Gish who passed on from glory to glory, from faith to sight, from this earthly realm to the heavenly realm. She was truly a faithful saint of God, in many ways the matriarch of our home church, and a servant leader who tirelessly witnessed of Your mercy and love. Now she’s taken her place in that great “cloud of witnesses” in the eternal embrace of Your arms of love (Hebrews 12:1).   She owns the land and the little cabin where we call home and the home of our ministry right next door to her home. And it was at her home where one day I picked her up and laid her in her bed, hearing her final words to me, “Honey, you are so strong.” Early the next morning, we joined around her and prayed her into Heaven, as she took her last breath and entrusted her spirit to You in her final act of trust and love in the One she loves so much.   Her favorite word for You was “Papa.” And every morning she loved to get into her prayer chair and wait for the rays of sun to come beaming into her living room as Your welcome to her for another day in Your love. Her heart for You always reminded me of Your heart for us: “For (we) have not received a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but (we) received a spirit of adoption, through which we cry, ‘Abba, Father!” (Romans 8:15 NASB)   As The Message version expresses it, much as Miss Charlene expressed it:   “This resurrection life (we) received from God is not a timid, grave-tending life. It’s adventurously expectant, greeting God with a childlike ‘What’s next, Papa?’ God’s Spirit touches our spirits and confirms who we really are. We know who He is, and we know who we are: Father and children. And we know we are going to get what’s coming to us--an unbelievable inheritance! We go through exactly what Christ goes through. If we go through the hard times with Him, then we’re certainly going to go through the good times with Him!” (Romans 8:15-17 The Message)   Miss Charlene is surely going through the good times with You right now! We celebrate that she’s now at home with You in Heaven, even as we grieve her loss that she’s no longer at home here with us. But her life and her legacy that marked our hearts and our community will live on and on, just as Your Spirit lives on and Your love never fails (1 Corinthians 13:8).   As I continue the process of entrusting Miss Charlene into Your embrace this morning, from my heart to Yours, from my strong embrace to Your stronger embrace, Your Words come to mind: “I AM the Resurrection and the Life; the one who believes in Me will live, even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?” (John 11:24-26).   Yes, I do. I do believe this. So we do not grieve in the way of others who have no hope, for our hope is secure in You (1 Thessalonians 4:13). And now it’s with great joy that I have peace in my heart, along with all who loved her, that Miss Charlene is abiding with you forever, even as her legacy abides forever in our hearts as well. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today. “Right with God” because God’s Spirit is Right Here Within Me - September 15, 2023

 

Morning by Morning, September 15 - “Right with God” because God’s Spirit is Right Here Within Me   Good morning, Lord Jesus. I speak out Your name and wait for the leading of Your Spirit. ...   “But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God” (1 Corinthians 6:11 NLT).   I was different before You saved me. I was different before You cleansed me. And as I keep looking to You, keep calling on You, keep opening my heart and my life to You, You keep making me different, changing me and cleansing me, and making me holy and right with God (2 Corinthians 3:18).   As King David said, You “create in me a clean heart, O God” and “renew a right spirit within me” (Psalm 51:10). As the Apostle Paul expressed this in terms of daily offering our lives to You as “a living and holy sacrifice”:   “And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all He has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice--the kind He will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship Him. Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect” (Romans 12:1-2 NLT).   So make me different today, O God -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. I want to be “right with God” in my heart and mind, in my words and actions, offering to You my body and life as a “living and holy sacrifice.”   I believe that’s part of what You meant when You spoke to Your first disciples and continue to speak to every disciple who would rise and follow You each day in their hearts:   “If any of you wants to be My follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross daily, and follow Me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for My sake, you will save it. And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world are yourself lost or destroyed? If anyone is ashamed of Me and My message, the Son of Man will be ashamed of that person when He returns in His glory and in the glory of the Father and the holy angels” (Luke 9:23-26 NLT).   I do want to be Your follower, Your disciple, a true son of God who’s unashamed of the Son of Man, the Son of God, who’s wholly surrendered my life to You so that You can fully live Your life in me. “Christ in (me), the hope of glory” (Colossians 1:27) -- “right with God” because God’s Spirit is right here within me (Romans 8:9). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today. “Accepted in the Beloved” - September 14, 2023

 

Morning by Morning, September 14 - “Accepted in the Beloved”   Good morning, Lord Jesus. My Heavenly Father and Best Friend, my Lord and Savior, my Comforter and Healer, my All in All (Ephesians 1:23). I wait for Your leading here in Your Presence. ...   “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved” (Ephesians 1:3-6).   By Your grace, we are “accepted in the Beloved.” Just as we are forgiven by Your Blood and embraced in Your Love. You are our Beloved and we are Yours (Song of Solomon 6:3).   You’ve already “blessed us with every spiritual blessing” -- with more than enough and more than we deserve. Our inheritance in You, our inheritance of You, is already secured “in the heavenly places” above, as we take hold of all You’ve already done in our hearts here in the earthly places below. Your heart for us who have believed in You is “sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise” (Ephesians 1:13).   It’s the good pleasure of (Your) will to reveal to us this Truth of Your Love, as You keep opening the eyes our hearts to see You and to see ourselves as You see us (Ephesians 1:8). And how You see us is “accepted in the Beloved” -- accepted, embraced, honored, cherished, valued children of God and disciples of Christ, “filled with the Spirit” of the Living God to display Your glory through our lives (Ephesians 5:18). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today. First in the Morning and Then Every Moment of My Day - September 13, 2023

 

Morning by Morning, September 13 - First in the Morning and Then Every Moment of My Day   Good morning, Lord Jesus. King of Kings and Lord of Lords, come rule and reign in my heart and my life today (Revelation 19:16). ...   “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you” (Matthew 6:33).   You’re to be first -- Your kingdom, Your righteousness, which is to say Your will and Your way. Not my will, but Your will be done (Mathew 26:39). Not my kingdom, but Your kingdom come (Matthew 6:10).   So as I begin my day, I seek You first -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God.  I get in my prayer chair. I open up my journal, as I open up my heart, waiting in my spirit for the leading of Your Spirit.   King David, “a man after God’s own heart” (1 Samuel 13:14), expressed his heart and the priority of his life, starting from the beginning of his day this way:   “O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You In a dry and thirsty land Where there is no water. So I have looked for You in the sanctuary, To see Your power and Your glory.   “Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, My lips shall praise You. Thus I will bless You while I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name. My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness, And my mouth shall praise You with joyful lips” (Psalm 63:1-5).   Give me that heart, I pray. A heart after God. A heart that seeks You first, that trusts in You first, that lives for You first -- first thing in the morning and then every moment of my day. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today.
