Morning by Morning, June 23 - Interrelationship of Our Hearts and the Revival of Our Land
Good morning, Lord Jesus. Be at the center of my heart and every moment of my day. ...
I’m among those who have a burden to pray for our nation most every day, among the other burdens of prayer that come to my heart. And this morning, I’m mindful of the interrelationship between our hearts and the land and the land and our hearts. One way Your Word describes this spiritual principle is from Leviticus:
“Do not defile yourselves in any of these ways, for by all these practices the nations I am casting out before you have defiled themselves. Thus the land became defiled, and I punished it for its iniquity, and the land vomited out its inhabitants. But you shall keep My statutes and My ordinances and commit none of these abominations, either the native-born or the alien who resides among you, for the inhabitants of the land, who were before you, committed all of these abominations, and the land became defiled; otherwise the land will vomit you out for defiling it, as it vomited out the nation that was before you. For whoever commits any of these abominations shall be cut off from their people. So keep My charge not to commit any of these abominations that were done before you and not to defile yourselves by them: I am the Lord your God” (Leviticus 18:24-30).
Sin that defiles our hearts also defiles our land. And when our land is defiled, we are displaced from the blessing of the land.
But You’ve always made provision for the healing of our hearts and the healing of our land -- through repentance and prayer, by the grace of God. From ages past to the days at hand, there is no awakening without acknowledging our sin; and there is no revival without repentance of our sinful ways. But at the same, there is the promise of awakening and revival when we, as a people, repent and return to You in our hearts and for our land. In what might be called Your Covenant of Revival, Your Word declares:
“Then the Lord appeared to Solomon in the night and said to him, ‘I have heard your prayer and have chosen this place for Myself as a house of sacrifice. When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain or command the locust to devour the land or send pestilence among My people, if My people who are called by My name humble themselves, pray, seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to the prayer that is made in this place” (2 Chronicles 7:12-15).
In this sense, the restoration and healing of our land is conditional up the humility and repentance of our hearts. Our hearts and our land go hand in hand.
I know some would say obedience to God’s command is no longer necessary because of the grace we have in You and Your love for us. But here’s what You said about that:
“If you love Me, you will keep My commandments” (John 14:15).
“Those who love Me will keep My word, and My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make Our home with them. Whoever does not love Me does not keep My words, and the word that you hear is not Mine but is from the Father who sent Me” (John 14:23-24).
There is a revival and refreshing of our land that only comes through repentance (Acts 3:19). And we thank You that Your grace abounds to turn our hearts, to cover our sin, and to heal our land. “Where sin abounded, grace abounded much more” (Romans 5:20). Lord, we need Your grace to abound as never before!
By the power of Your grace, there is a move of Your Holy Spirit in our nation that is turning our hearts to repent of our sin so that You can heal our land. This morning, I join with all those who are fervently praying for a shifting in the law of our land, for a national act from a place of governmental authority that declares for all the world and the spiritual realm to hear and to see that we are nation acknowledging the sin of our past and repenting of the wicked ways we’ve embraced the spirit of this world.
Let there be a supreme shift that breaks open a supernatural move of Your Spirit in our land in recognition of a supernatural move in our hearts! As You break the curse off of our land, You will be breaking the curse off of our hearts -- making room for revival Fire to burn across our land again:
“For behold, the day is coming,
Burning like an oven,
And all the proud, yes, all who do wickedly will be stubble.
And the day which is coming shall burn them up,”
Says the Lord of hosts,
“That will leave them neither root nor branch.
But to you who fear My name
The Sun of Righteousness shall arise
With healing in His wings;
And you shall go out
And grow fat like stall-fed calves.
You shall trample the wicked,
For they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet
On the day that I do this,”
Says the Lord of hosts.
“Remember the Law of Moses, My servant,
Which I commanded him in Horeb for all Israel,
With the statutes and judgments.
Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet
Before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord.
And he will turn
The hearts of the fathers to the children,
And the hearts of the children to their fathers,
Lest I come and strike the earth with a curse” (Malachi 4:1-6).
Let the Blood of Jesus cleanse our hearts from every defilement and the Breath of Your Holy Spirit blow across our land in the awakening and revival we long to see and You long to do! In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
