Morning by Morning, June 21 - Boldness in the Battle Against the Threats
Good morning, Lord Jesus. Put Your thoughts in my mind and Your desires in my heart, as You fill me and lead me by Your Spirit, now in the morning and throughout the moments of my day (Ephesians 5:18). ...
As we wait and pray for the Supreme Court of our nation to issue its ruling on whether the condoning of abortion will continue to be the law of the land or not, battles are raging in both the natural realm and the spiritual realm (Ephesians 6:12). Threats of violence and vengeance, intimidation and insurrection, mayhem and even murder are hurled like hand grenades with increasing vitriol and frenzied fear that society-sanctioned sacrifices of innocent blood may soon come to an end.
A common threat of intimidation and manipulation being spay-painted and spewed-out against the decision makers goes something like this: “If abortion isn’t safe, you aren’t either.”
As I hear these threats, I’m reminded of another time of great intimidation and manipulation in the face of another spiritual awakening shifting the course of a nation. It’s from the first days of Your Church being called forth in the power and authority of Your name after the day of Pentecost and the pouring out of Your Holy Spirit recorded in the Book of Acts:
“After (Apostles Peter and John) were released, they went to their own people and reported what the chief priests and the elders had said to them. When they heard it, they raised their voices together to God and said, ‘Sovereign Lord, who made the heaven and the earth, the sea, and everything in them, it is You who said by the Holy Spirit through our ancestor David, Your servant:
‘Why did the gentiles rage
and the peoples imagine vain things?
The kings of the earth took their stand,
and the rulers have gathered together
against the Lord and against His Messiah.’
“‘For in this city, in fact, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the gentiles and the peoples of Israel, gathered together against your holy servant Jesus, whom You anointed, to do whatever Your hand and Your plan had predestined to take place. And now, Lord, look at their threats, and grant to Your servants to speak Your word with all boldness, while You stretch out Your hand to heal, and signs and wonders are performed through the name of Your holy servant Jesus.’”
“When they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God with boldness!” (Acts 4:23-31).
Father, let a great boldness come out of these battles. Let a new courage arise in our hearts out of these challenges. Rather than being intimidated, let Your Church be invigorated.
Grounded in Your Word and filled with Your Spirit, may we be as bold as lion (Proverbs 28:1). May we courageously take our stand in the natural realm with our voices and our votes, as we advance the battle in the spiritual realm with our prayers and declarations by the leading of Your Holy Spirit (Romans 8:26-27).
In a great move of spiritual awakening and revival in our hearts and in our land, “stretch out Your hand to heal (as) signs and wonders are performed through the name of Your holy servant Jesus.” As our nation is “shaken,” let us be “gathered together” in a unity of one voice with one Spirit as not seen since the Book of Acts; and may we all be “filled with the Holy Spirit” to speak “the word of God with boldness” as never before! In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
