Morning by Morning, October 25, 2024 - “In the Beginning” was God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit in His Oneness and Glory Good morning, Lord Jesus. My eyes are on You, here in the focused moments of my morning -- “looking unto Jesus, the Author and Finisher of (my) faith” (Hebrews 12:2). ... As I wait on You and listen for Your leading, as I seek to do in these morning times, this Scripture comes to mind today: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it.... “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth” (John 1:1-5, 14). Lord Jesus, You are the Word of God. You were there “in the beginning” and You’re also with us “always” (Matthew 28:20). You are “Immanuel ... God with us (Matthew 1:23). The first Words of Scripture speak of You and Your action of creation, in Your Oneness and glory, as One with the Father and One with the Holy Spirit: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1). “The Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters” (Genesis 1:2). And as the Word of God, You were there in the unity of the Spirit and the Oneness of God (John 1:1). The original Hebrew Word translated as “God” in Genesis 1:1 is the word “Elohim,” which is not a singular word, but a plural word, speaking of one God, with multiple dimensions of a plurality. As the account of creation in this first Chapter of the Bible goes to declare, “Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness” (Genesis 1:26). The whole counsel of God, the whole of Scripture, gives us understanding and revelation that You are not three gods, but One God in three Persons of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, who were all, as One, actively engaged in the creation of our world “in the beginning.” You expressed this concept of Oneness in a plurality of Your Identity when You said, “I and My Father are One” (John 10:30). And when You said, “He who has seen Me has seen the Father.... I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me” (John 14:9-11). And when You said, “the Father ... will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever -- the Spirit of Truth ... you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you” (John 14:16-17). And as You confirmed, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him” (John 14:23). Thank You for creating our world and creating us -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God. And thank You for giving us the grace to fulfill the Word of Your Command to go into our world grounded and growing in the understanding of this revelation of the Oneness of Your Identity, revealed in these three Persons and Dimensions of God: “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” and reminding us of the Promise of Your Eternal Presence, “I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:19-20). And now: “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with (us) all” (2 Corinthians 13:14). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
