"When He was at the
table with them, He took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them. Then
their eyes were opened, and they recognized Him ..." (Luke 24:30-31).
Our eyes are opened in
Your Presence. And the blessing of Your intimacy so often comes in the moments
of our brokenness. But then, like Your first disciples, we want to run out and
tell everyone we know, "The Lord has risen indeed!" (v. 33-34) All their sadness
and hopelessness was turned to joy when You "had been made known to them in the
breaking of the bread" (v. 35). And so is ours.
You fulfill all the law
and the prophets, all the promises of God, when we allow Your Presence to gather
us up from our brokenness: "They shall see the glory of the Lord, the majesty of
our God.... Strengthen the weak hands, and make firm the feeble knees. Say to
those who are of a fearful heart, 'Be strong, do not fear! ... He will come and
save you.... Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, the ears of the deaf
unstopped; then the lame shall leap like a deer, and the tongue of the
speechless sing for joy.... Everlasting joy shall be upon their heads; they
shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away" (from
Isaiah 35:1-10). In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
