Good morning, Lord Jesus. King of my heart, Lord of my life, fill me up and lead me on today into the fullness and fulfillment of Your will for me. ...

“Now that you have purified your souls by your obedience to the truth so that you have genuine mutual love, love one another deeply from the heart” (1 Peter 1:22).

Valentine’s Day -- today, all the world celebrates the Day of Love. Even if you don’t “believe” in it, you still better bring home some flowers.

But at the heart of it is actually an honest expression of our God-given need to give and receive love. In Your own words, “On these two commandments” -- to “love the Lord your God with all your heart” and to “love your neighbor as yourself” -- “hang all the Law and the Prophets” of the Scriptures of the Bible (Matthew 22:37-40). In fact, love is the very essence of Your Being, “for God is love, and those who abide in love abide in God, and God abides in them” (1 John 4:16).

This is not the world’s love or some worldly form of lust impersonating love. This is self-sacrificial love, steadfast love, unfailing love (John 3:16). This is the love that even “covers a multitude of sins” (1 Peter 4:8). This is the love that never ceases (Lamentations 3:22), the love that never ends (1 Corinthians 13:8), the love that “bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things” (1 Corinthians 13:7).

So on this Day of Love, release a fresh grace, even a revival of love, to love like that, to love like You, to “love one another deeply from the heart” in “genuine mutual love.” In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
