Morning by Morning, May 22 - “Fan into Flame the Gift of God!” Good morning, Lord Jesus. Help me begin this day embraced by my Father, centered in Christ, and filled with the Holy Spirit. ... “I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well. For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and (a sound mind)” (2 Timothy 1:5-7). Thank You for the gifts of God You’ve given us. They are not for us but for those You would touch through us. Some gifts have been passed down to us through the generations. Some have been imparted to us through the laying on of hands. Some come through the persistence of prayer, as You put Your desires in our hearts to pray for Your Spirit and Your spiritual gifts we need to fulfill our calling and destiny as You will. “All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as He wills” (1 Corinthians 12:11). Come, Holy Spirit. “Fan into flame the gift of God” You’ve put within me and in every one of Your children of God and disciples of Christ. Set us free from sluggishness and fear, timidity and hesitation, reluctance and resistance. In those ways, we hinder Your will and all You would do through us in our world. Awaken us to be all You’ve created us and called us to be (Ephesians 5:14). Fill us up and flow through us with the power and love of Your Spirit! (Ephesians 5:18) Together, we are “the body of Christ” in our world “and individually members of it” (1 Corinthians 12:27). We are Your “ambassadors for Christ” with “God making His appeal through us” (2 Corinthians 5:20). So let us be empowered with Your love, sound in our minds, compassionate in our hearts to be expressions of Your heart, Your truth, Your power, Your love, Your light, Your glory in our world. “Christ in (us), the hope of glory” (Colossians 1:27). With Your Spirit, expressing Your character through our lives, revealing Your nature through Your body of Christ in our world, our lives will bear much fruit and Your kingdom will be extended into many heart throughout the nations of the earth (Galatians 5:22-23). As You “fan into flame” the gifts of God within us, as You forge by the Flame of Your Holy Spirit Your character and nature in us, “This Gospel of the Kingdom will be proclaimed through the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come” (Matthew 24:14). This is part of the fulfillment of Your prophetic Promise: “For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea!” (Habakkuk 2:14) In Jesus’ name I pray.
