Morning by Morning, October 7, 2025 – “Pursue Righteousness” in order to “Fight the Good Fight”
Good morning, Lord Jesus. King of Kings and Lord of Lords, come rule and reign in my heart and my day (Revelation 19:16). ...
“But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses” (2 Timothy 6:11-12).
Empower me to “pursue righteousness.” Empower me to “pursue” the right things.
Many things want my attention and allegiance. Many things want my time and money. But Your Word tells me what to “pursue,” what to go after, what to dedicate my heart and mind, my limited resources of all that I am and all that I have:
“Righteousness.” “Godliness.” “Faith.” “Love.” “Endurance.” “Gentleness.”
Let these things be my priority, my pursuit. Align my focus to “fight the good fight of the faith.” These are the things worth fighting for. These are the things worth dying for. These are the things worth living for.
Let my life be judged by these things. In my relationship with You, in my family, in my relationships with others, in my ministry and calling, in my words and actions, in my motives and intentions.
Show me where I’m failing to hit the mark, where I’m falling short. That’s where I need Your grace to abound even more. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). I know I do every day. And every day I’m in constant need of Your ever-abounding grace. So I praise You and thank You that “where sin abounds, grace abounds much more” (Romans 5:20 KJV). “(Your) grace is sufficient for (me), for (Your) power is made perfect in (my) weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9).
And now, I arise from my quiet time of prayer, set apart to You in these first moments of morning, in the deep-abiding communion of Your Presence, to go out into my day. I know You go with me. I know You abide within me. And I know Your Spirit will be at work through every challenge I face and every obstacle to overcome to develop Your character in me. “For God is working in (me), giving (me) the desire and the power to do what pleases Him" (Philippians 2:13 NLT). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
