Morning by Morning, January 12, 2026 — “Order Over Chaos”
Good morning, Lord Jesus. King of Kings and Lord of Lords, come rule and reign in my heart and life today. ...
As I wait for Your leading, this comes to mind: “Order over chaos.” ...
And a picture of a dove flying over dark, troubled waters come to mind, reminding me of the Holy Spirit hovering over the chaos before creation:
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters” (Genesis 1:1-2).
On the one hand, the earth was “without form, and void,” and on the other hand, “darkness was on the face of the deep” of “the waters.”
Darkness. Chaos. Confusion. Nothing of any form or substance.
It can sound like a lot of places in our world today, in both geography and geopolitics, in hearts and minds, in heart attitudes and mental mindsets. And at the same time, You are here. You are with us. You have a plan and a purpose for our world and for us.
Come, Holy Spirit. Hover over me. Hover over my family, my community, my nation, my world. Speak Your words of spirit and life, truth and order, into all that seems unstable, insecure, chaotic and confused. “For God is not the author of confusion, but peace” (1 Corinthians 14:33), “not a God of disorder but of peace” (NIV).
Lord Jesus, You are our “Prince of Peace,” our “Everlasting Father,” our “Wonderful Counselor,” and our “Mighty God” (Isaiah 9:6). “Of the increase of (Your) government and peace there will be no end.... To order it and establish it with judgment and justice. From that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this” (v. 7).
That’s not just a Christmas verse, when we celebrate that “unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given” (Isaiah 9:6). It’s a declaration of truth, it’s a word of encouragement, it’s a Promise of the Word of God that You are with us and at work in our world in every moment and every situation.
So we can trust in You, our Lord of hosts, our Lord of heavens armies—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God—to bring order over chaos, to establish Your government of Your kingdom out of the darkness and confusion. First in us and then in our world.
Lord, have Your way. Your kingdom come. Your will be done. Here on earth, here in our hearts and minds, here in our heart attitudes and mental mindsets, here in our families and communities and nations throughout our world, as it is in heaven. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
