"Above Every Name" - May 16

Good morning, Lord Jesus. You are the King of kings and Lord of lords. You are my King and my Lord, and I welcome You in to rule and reign in my life today. ...

"God put this power to work in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the age to come. And He has put all things under His feet and has made Him head over all things for the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all" (Ephesians 1:20-23).

Lord Jesus, Your name is above every name. Your authority is above every authority. Your power is above every power. All things are under Your feet-under Your authority and power-the power and authority of the name of Jesus.

And then in the mystery of faith and the sovereignty of God, You encourage us to call on Your name, to ask in Your name, to speak in the authority of Your name (John 14:14). We are Your body, filled with Your Spirit, growing in Your nature, to fulfill Your purposes in the power of Your name. And there is great power-all power and authority-in the name of Jesus.

Lord Jesus, let the power of Your name forgive every sin, heal every wound, and break every chain in me and in us. Then let it forgive and heal and break through us as Your body, "the fullness of Him who fills all in all." In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.

Friends, thank you for praying for our meeting in Lexington with Aglow Ministries yesterday. We had a incredible time of teaching, ministry, and impartation on prophetic dreams and how the Holy Spirit uses dreams to help heal us from the inside out and free us to be all the Lord created us to be. Please let us know if your church would like to have us come share Dream Interpretation or our other workshops and ministries in your area.

Please come join us if you can and pray for us if you can't This Weekend May 18-20 in Aledo, Illinois for our School of Ministry hosted at The First Methodist Church with my great friend, Pastor Jeff Bealmear. Upcoming Ministry Events with Tommy & Sylvia Hays | Messiah Ministries

"The Law of Kindness" - May 15

Good morning, Lord Jesus. There's power in Your name. There's peace in Your Presence. There's hope in Your voice. There's encouragement in Your Word. So I come into Your Presence in the peaceful communion of my morning prayer to call on Your name, meditate on Your Word and listen for Your voice. ...

"She opens her mouth with wisdom, and on her tongue is the law of kindness" (Proverbs 31:26, NKJ).

Lord, teach me the law of kindness. Write in on my heart and express it through my mouth. "Whoever pursues righteousness and kindness will find life and honor" (v. 21:21).

As I go through the encounters and experiences of my day, let my countenance be kind. Let my eyes and words express the kindness of Your Spirit dwelling in me, for "the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control" (Galatians 5:22). In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.

True Heart - May 14

Good morning, Lord Jesus. I can always speak and know You are listening, because You're always here. ...

"Those who speak on their own seek their own glory, but the one who seeks the glory of Him who sent him is true, and there is nothing false in him" (John 7:18).

I want my heart to be true and I want my words to be true. I want my life to be one that leads others to the One who is true, as I try to follow You and worship You in spirit and in truth. Please forgive me when I fail, strengthen me when I'm weak, and correct me when I'm wrong.

Remind me throughout the moments of my day that I am seeking Your glory, honoring Your name, advancing Your kingdom-not my own. Continue to free me from self-centeredness and self-righteousness. Continue to move in my spirit to lift up my eyes and open up my heart to trust in the One who is true. Then out of the abundance of my heart, let my mouth and my life speak (Luke 6:45). In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.

"Ask God" - May 11

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Spirit to spirit, Deep to deep, I embrace You-Father, Son and Holy Spirit-in the communion of prayer at the foundation of my day. ...

"If any of you is lacking in wisdom, ask God, who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly, and it will be given to you. But ask in faith, never doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind; for the doubter, being double-minded and unstable in every way, must not expect to receive anything from the Lord" (James 1:5-8).

Your Word invites me to ask You for wisdom. And Your Word calls me to ask in faith, believing that what I ask will be given to me. So Father, in the name of Jesus, I do ask You for wisdom; I repent and reject and renounce all doubt and unbelief; I open my mind to Your thoughts and my heart to Your desires; and I lay my questions and needs before You, my wise King, faithful Friend, and gracious God. ...

Now, as I wait and listen for Your wisdom in prayer and then, as I arise and go about my day, continuing to abide in Your Presence by Your Spirit with me and within me, I will be expectant for Your wisdom to guide my choices and direct my path. "And this is the boldness we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have obtained the requests made of Him" (1 John 5:14-15). In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.

My Friend in the journey of prayer, I pray for God's wisdom in all your needs and questions; and I pray you'd be filled with great hope and expectant faith that the wise One who loves you so will guide your steps and direct your paths. Thank you for praying the same for me.

“A True Heart in Full Assurance of Faith” - May 10

Good morning, Lord Jesus. I speak out Your name, lift up my eyes, and open up my heart. Speak, Lord, for I am listening.

“Therefore, my friends, since we have confidence to enter the sanctuary by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that He opened for us through the curtain (that is, through His flesh), and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us approach with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast to the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who has promised is faithful” (Hebrews 10:19-20).

By the power of Your grace, by the blood of Jesus, I will not waver, but hold fast. I will not hold back, but press in. I will not give up, but surrender all.

You remind me of Your promises to remind me how to pray. You remind me of Your prophecies to remind me what to believe. You remind me of Your nature to remind me to trust.

Only by the blood of Jesus can I have clean hands and a pure heart. Only by the blood of Jesus can I enter into the holy place of Your abiding Presence. Only by the blood of Jesus can I call out Your name, lift up my eyes and open up my heart to embrace this gift of “a true heart in full assurance of faith.” So by the blood of Jesus, I do. By the grace of God, I hold fast to this confession of my hope without wavering. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

A Better Covenant, More Intimate Relationship - May 9

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Father, Son and Holy Spirit, fill my spirit, soul and body with Your Presence and Your peace and Your purpose. ...

"After this David inquired of the Lord, 'Shall I go up into any of the cities of Judah?" The Lord said to him, 'Go up.' David said, 'To which shall I go up?' He said, 'To Hebron.' So David went up there.... Then the people of Judah came, and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah.... The time that David was king in Hebron over the house of Judah was seven years and six months" (2 Samuel 2:1-11).

David humbled himself to hear Your voice. He listened carefully for Your leading. He inquired specifically for Your specific instructions. And You answered him and guided him through the seasons of his life into his calling and destiny.

Yet David lived out his life and relationship with You under the old covenant of the law. But now, through Christ, we can live out our lives and relationship with You under "a better covenant, which has been enacted under better promises" (Hebrews 8:6). Now Your law with Your will and ways are written "in (our) minds" and "on (our) hearts" so that we can all know You deeply and intimately "from the least of (us) to the greatest"-weather we are called to be kings or anything else in all Your Kingdom (Hebrews 8:10-11).

Lord, let me know You more deeply and intimately. Let me hear Your voice and follow Your leading by the guidance of Your Spirit in my mind and on my heart. Remind me to always humbly inquire of You and then faithfully continue to abide in constant communion with You, throughout the moments of my day. In this great gift of personal relationship with You under this intimate covenant with You, let me know my identity and fulfill my destiny, through all the seasons of my life. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.

"Moved with Compassion" - May 8

Good morning, Lord Jesus. My Savior, my Lord, my Best Friend, I welcome You in to every moment of my day. ...

"And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick" (Matthew 14:14, NKJ).

"And Jesus, when He came out, saw a great multitude and was moved with compassion for them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So He began to teach them many things" (Mark 6:34, NJK).

You ministry was motivated by Your compassion. You reached out to them out of compassion; You healed them out of compassion; You taught them out of compassion. Their circumstances and challenges stirred Your Spirit and moved Your heart. You didn't judge them or condemn them; You didn't look down on them or chastise them. You reach out to them to extend and express the healing love of God to them.

And so it is to be with us. "Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep" (Romans 12:15). "Bear one another's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ" (Galatians 6:2).

Lord, give me more c0mpassion for people. Let Your love be my aim in all I do, as I extend and express the healing love of God, by Your Spirit reaching out through my life this day. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.

My God is For Me - May 7

Good morning, Lord Jesus. I set my focus on Your face and listen in my spirit for the leading of Your voice. ...

"What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?" (Romans 8:31-32, NKJ)

If You are for me, I have nothing to fear. If You are for me, I have nothing to lose. In fact, I can't lose. Even the things that challenge me and chafe me, even the things that worry me and weary me-You even cause those things to work together for my good, if I keep entrusting myself to the One who is for me, to the One who has already given Himself in the greatest sacrifice of love for me (v. 28).

So by the power of the grace of God at work for me and at work within me, I will not fear or worry; I will not waver or grow weary. I will trust in You and rest in Your truth. My God is for me. So what can stand against me? Whatever may come, whatever I may endure, as I journey each day through this broken, fallen world, I overcome and endure with You at my side and with Your Spirit inside (v. 9). In all these things, I am more than a conqueror through the One who loves me, the One who's for me, and the One who's with me (v. 37). In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.

"Love is Patient, Love is Kind" - May 3

Good morning, Lord Jesus. My eyes are on You. Help me see You as You are and see me as I am. As I behold You, You are changing me into Your image (2 Corinthians 3:17). ...

"Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends..." (1 Corinthians 13:4-8).

Lord God, You are my Father and You are my Friend. And You are Love (1 John 4:8). That's not just one of Your attributes or part of Your nature or something You do. That's who You are. That's the essence of Your Being. And You want me to be more like You every day. As You are, so am I to be in this world. "God is love, and those who abide in love abide in God, and God abides in them.... Because as He is so are we in this world (1 John 4:16-17).

So help me, empower me to be more patient, to be more kind, to be more thoughtful and hopeful and faithful. Help me to be more of all these things that describe Your love, that describe Your heart and Your nature. Help me be more like You each day. For this is Your will and my destiny-to be conformed into the image of Christ, to be conformed into the image of the One who is Love (Romans 8:29). In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.

Tree of Life - May 2

Good morning, Lord Jesus. I want to drink deeply of the living water from Your streams of life. ...

"Happy are those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or take the path that sinners tread, or sit in the seat of scoffers; but their delight is in the law of the Lord, and on His law they meditate day and night. They are like trees planted by streams of water, which yield their fruit in its season, and their leaves do not wither. In all that they do, they prosper" (Psalm 1:1-3).

Let the tree of my life be planted securely in Your Word, drawing deeply from Your Spirit. I need Your streams of mercy, flowing freely through my heart and mind every moment of every day. I want to prosper in all I do; I want my life to bear fruit that honors You.

Keep drawing my roots down more deeply into the fertile soil of Your Word and the living water of Your Spirit. Keep changing me and causing me to delight in the things that delight You and to turn from the things that don't. Your words are wise; Your leading is sure; Your voice is true. To willingly seek to walk in Your ways down the path You've chosen for the destiny of my life is wisdom. "Her ways are ways of pleasantness and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her; those who hold her fast are called happy" (Proverbs 3:17-18). In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.

"Always Before Me" - May 1

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Put Your thoughts in my mind and Your desires in my heart, as You set my feet on Your path this day. ...

"I bless the Lord who gives me counsel; in the night also my heart instructs me. I keep the Lord always before me; because He is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. Therefore my heart is glad and my soul rejoices; my body also rests secure.... You show me the path of life. In Your Presence there is fullness of joy; in Your right hand there are pleasures forevermore" (Psalm 16:7-11).

You are my wise King. You are my "Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace" (Isaiah 9:6). You are the God who gives wisdom and guidance to all who ask and humble themselves to listen and hear (James 1:5).

Thank You for the peace that comes, even before the answer comes, when we entrust our questions to You. Even before I see where my path will lead in this season of my journey, I can rest secure that it will lead to good places with great adventures because You're always before me and Your Presence will always be with me all along the way. "Therefore my heart is glad and my soul rejoices." In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.

Supernatural Ministry - April 30

Good morning, Lord Jesus. I yield to Your Spirit and listen for Your leading, as I start my day centered in You. ...

"But Peter said, 'I have no gold or silver, but what I have I give you; in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, stand up and walk.' And he took him by the right hand and raised him up; and immediately his feet and ankles were made strong. Jumping up, he stood and began to walk, and he entered the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God" (Acts 3:6-8).

A lady near the back of the sanctuary kept holding the back of her neck, as I began teaching my equipping session Saturday afternoon. She had been away from the Lord for some time. But she and her husband felt drawn to come the little Methodist Church in the country with the big sign out by the highway about "Supernatural Ministry." Our team was leading this weekend at Pastor Gay Loy's church in northern Indiana. He wanted his people to have "An Aldersgate Experience"-connecting their spiritual heritage with the Moravian prayer meeting on Aldersgate Street in London where John Wesley was filled with the Holy Spirit to begin the Methodist Revival movement that burned across England and on to America in the eighteen hundreds.

As I tried to teach, Your Holy Spirit strongly impressed upon me, "Stop and go pray for her right now." All I could think was "Yes, Lord." Suzy said the was in excruciating pain that morning and almost didn't come. She was intense pain now. We stretched out our hands toward her and prayed for the healing warmth of Your Holy Spirit to relax her and realign her spirit, soul, and body in the mighty name of Jesus. After we prayed, I asked her how she was doing. She burst into tears to declare, "All the pain's gone!"

Praise You, Lord. You are Jehovah Rapha, the God who heals us (Exodus 15:26). With a giant smile on her face, Suzy was laughing and leaping and praising God in her spirit. Her family came to church Sunday morning and she came up front at the altar call to surrender her life completely to You. What an Aldersgate experience, what a Holy Spirit breakthrough encounter of supernatural ministry she had this weekend!

Lord, we ask for more-more of Your love, more of Your power, more of You in our lives. This is our spiritual heritage as the Body of Christ (Acts 1:8). In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.

I Want to Hear the Voice of God - April 27

Good morning, Lord Jesus. My eyes are on You alone in the these first moments of my morning-Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. ...

I want to hear You
Be near You
I want to know Your voice

I want to see You
Believe You
I want to follow Your voice
Because I am Your son
Because I am Your friend
Because I give up my life
And give up my will
To follow You Lord
Wherever Your voice will lead

Yes, Lord. Through the words of this new song You're stirring in my spirit and writing on my heart, I hear You calling me to a deeper place of intimacy with You. And this is what You've promised for me and for all who willingly choose to give themselves to follow You: "My sheep hear My voice. I know them, and they follow Me" (John 10:27).

This day I choose to lean in and listen. I choose to open up the door of my heart and welcome You in, just as You invite all of us to do: "Listen! I Am standing at the door, knocking; if you hear My voice and open the door, I will come in to you and eat with you, and you with Me" (Revelation 3:20). Then from this place of deeper intimacy with You, I will arise and follow You wherever You lead, as best as I can and all by Your grace. "For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God" (Romans 8:14). In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.

"With One Voice" - April 26

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Let me sense Your Presence and hear Your Voice, as I listen for the leading of Your Spirit. ...

"May the God of steadfastness and encouragement grant you to live in harmony with one another, in accordance with Christ Jesus, so that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ" (Romans 15:5-6).

Father, Your Holy Spirit is drawing together Your people in prayer as the Body and Bride of Christ. From the diverse streams and traditions and tribes of our faith, You are uniting us in love, bonding us in peace, and moving through us in power. With one voice, we glorify You. With one voice, we repent for our people and our land throughout our generations in humility before You. And with one voice, we arise and stand to take our responsibility and authority to decree and declare Your Word over our cities. With one voice, we pull down the gates of hell and open up the gates of righteousness over our land that the King of Glory may come in (Matthew 16:18-19; Psalm 24).

What an exciting honor to join together with one voice in the city of Greensburg, Dekalb County, Indiana these past two nights with Your people who are called by Your name to humble ourselves and pray for the healing and freedom of the people of this land. It was the first public gathering of Door of Life Ministries, founded for the transformation of the community through prayer and healing. And with one voice we praise You for the spiritually strategic insights, prophetic guidance, and apostolic execution of Your Word and Your will over the generations of this land (1 Peter 1:18).

Lord, let there be fruit of what You have done and what You are continuing to do, here in this land and throughout the earth, as Your people come together to pray and then proclaim Your heart for Your people. As You restore and empower the voice of Your people, it will be a unified voice under the banner of Your name in our cities and communities (John 17:21). "There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope of your calling, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all through all and in all" (Ephesians 4:4-6). In that unity of Your Spirit, You command Your blessing-"life forevermore" (Psalm 133). In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.

Always - April 24

Good morning, Lord Jesus. When I think about You-Father, Son, and Holy Spirit-how You're always faithful, always true, always merciful, always mighty-I just want to say thank You and I give to You all of me. ...

"I keep the Lord always before me; because He is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. Therefore my heart is glad, and my soul rejoices; my body also rests secure.... You show me the path of life. In Your Presence there is fullness of joy; in Your right hand there are pleasures forevermore" (Psalm 16:8-11).

Be ever before me Lord, always at the center of my focus and the foundation of my life. Remind me every moment of every day You're always with me. You are my security and my strength; You are my rock and my refuge. You are at my right hand, and I shall not be moved-not moved by my circumstances, but by Your Spirit; not moved by my doubts or fears, by Your Word of Truth. By the power of Your grace, You are my Path of Life-always. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.

By Prayer and Action We Overcome - April 23

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Draw me near to You in the depths of the intimacy of prayer, as I begin my day centered in You. ...

"But when Sanballat and Tobiah and the Arabs and the Ammonites and the Ashdodites heard that the repairing of the walls of Jerusalem was going forward and that the gaps were beginning to be closed, they were very angry, and all plotted together to come and fight against Jerusalem and to cause confusion in it. So we prayed to our God, and set a guard as a protection against them day and night" (Nehemiah 4:7-9).

We're to be a people of both prayer and action. When the enemy's of Israel challenged the restoration of Jerusalem, they didn't just pray without action; and they didn't just act without praying. They prayed and they set a guard. They fought the battle in the heavens through prayer and executed Your battle plan on earth through action.

The enemy of our souls constantly challenges our restoration. He opposes our blessings of security and peace; he tries to steal our inheritance as children of God; and he fiercely attacks the fulfillment of our calling and destiny in Christ. So we pray and we set a guard. So we pray and we stand our ground. Prayer is one of the mightiest "weapons of our warfare" (2 Corinthians 10:4). And so is obedient action in faithful execution of Your Spirit's leading (Romans 8:14).

By prayer and action, we will overcome our adversary. By prayer, we align ourselves with You to do Your part. And by action, we align ourselves with one another to do our part. The battle belongs to the Lord; and at the same time, You often choose in Your sovereignty to enforce Your victory through the obedient actions of Your praying people. As You have promised: "The God of peace will shortly crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you" (Romans 16:20). In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.

Truth Brings Freedom and Joy - April 20

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Help me start this day embraced by my Father, centered in Christ, and filled with the Holy Spirit. ...

"But as it is written, 'What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, nor the human heart conceived, what God has prepared for those who love Him"-these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit, for the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God. For what human knows what is truly human except the human spirit that is within? So also, no one truly comprehends what is truly God's except the Spirit of God" (1 Corinthians 2:9-11).

Open my eyes; open my ears; open my heart by Your Spirit. Let me see myself, see others, see the world around me as You see, as they truly are. Reveal the truth to me.

I want to know the truth that sets me free-free from seeing things with clouded vision, through the disappointments or failures of the past, out of a wounded heart or damaged emotions. Spirit of God, come free me in the name of Jesus. Come embrace me in the love of my Father. Come fill me with the Spirit of God. You are the "Spirit of Truth" who comes from God to lead me into all truth (John 16:13). And in the truth of Your love for me and the resurrection power of Your Spirit within me, all weeping and mourning and "pain will turn to joy" (John 16:20). In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.

Look Up - April 19

Good morning, Lord Jesus. I lift up my eyes unto the hills, unto Your face. That's where my strength comes from; my strength comes from the Lord. ...

"To whom will you compare Me, or who is My equal? says the Holy One. Lift up your eyes on high and see: Who created these? He who brings out their host and numbers them, calling them all by name; because He is great in strength, mighty in power, not one is missing" (Isaiah 40:25-26).

As I look up to the face of my Creator, I am strengthened. As I look up to see the stars in the heavens and the sun in the sky, I am encouraged. You are sovereign and mighty. You are infinitely aware of every detail of Your creation. And You are infinitely aware of every detail of my life. Nothing in missing from Your gaze. Nothing is missing Your power to touch and change.

Lord, as I look to You, I invite You to look at me. Show me what You want to strengthen and what You want to change. Show me what You want to encourage and what You want to kill. Put to death my flesh and bring to life my spirit. As best as I can and all by Your grace, I entrust myself to You.

"O Lord, You have searched me and known me.... Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my thoughts. See if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting" (Psalm 139:1-24). In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.

To Know Christ's Power and His Sufferings - April 18

Good morning, Lord Jesus. I love You, Lord. And I thank You for first loving me. ...

"I want to know Christ and the power of His resurrection and the sharing of His sufferings by becoming like Him in His death, if somehow I may attain the resurrection from the dead" (Philippians 3:10).

I'm not content to know about You, I must know You. To know You is to know the glory of Your resurrection but also the pain of Your sufferings. And if I truly know You, I can't help but want to become more like You.

As the Son of Man walking this earth in the likeness of human flesh and blood, the Father's hand of favor and blessing was upon You. And the Holy Spirit's power and authority was within You. Every moment of every day You encountered the Presence of God and experienced the power of God, ultimately culminating in the glory of Your resurrection. But You also encountered the rejection, misunderstanding, and selfish sin of the broken, fallen world You loved so much, ultimately culminating in the sufferings of Your crucifixion.

Now for us, the servant is not above the Master; and the disciple is not above the Teacher (Matthew 10:24). So give me the courage to endure with grace whatever sufferings I encounter through my time on this earth, whether by my wrong choices or those of others. Give me hope to know You're at work through it all, seeking to work in me the nature of Christ. "Beloved, we are God's children now; what we will be has not yet been revealed. What we do know is this: When He is revealed, we will be like Him, for we will see Him as He is. And all who have this hope in Him purify themselves, just as He is pure" (1 John 2:2-3). In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.

From Double-minded Doubt to Trusting Faith - April 16

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Help me start this day surrounded by Your Presence and grounded in Your Truth. ...

"But Thomas (who was called the Twin), one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples told him, 'We have seen the Lord!' But he said to them, 'Unless I see the mark of the nails in His hands, and put my finger in the mark of the nails and my hand in His side, I will not believe" (John 20:24-25).

Thomas was a twin by his birth, but he was also a twin by his thoughts. He was double-minded. In one part of his mind, he believed You were the Messiah - he gave up everything to follow You as one of Your disciples; he saw Your signs and wonders in the power of God; he heard and embraced Your teaching with authority; and he saw the impact of the Kingdom of God changing the lives of all You touched.

Yet in another part of his mind, he doubted it all. He was "double-minded." And "the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind; for the doubter, being double-minded and unstable in every way, must not expect to receive anything from the Lord" (James 1:8).

Thomas' doubt and double-mindedness was manifested in his pride, as he vowed in his heart and declared with his mouth, "I will not believe." Part of his mind was still fixated on the trauma of the past, the image of the nails piercing Your hands and the spear piercing Your side. That part of his mind was not yet ready to embrace the truth in trusting faith of all You had promised and all that Your were in his life.

That kind of pride of saying, "I will do this; I will do that; I will have it my way; I will protect myself; I will depend upon myself; I will be in control" is the opposite of humility - of willingly choosing to be desperately dependent on God alone. That kind of pride blocks us from receiving the power of the grace of God where we need it the most. "God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble" (James 4:6).

Lord, forgive me for the times I enter into the sins of doubt and unbelief. Forgive me for the times I give in to the sin of pride and insist on being in control of my life instead of entrusting control of my life completely to You. Heal my double-mindedness. Strip away my pride. Deliver me from the spirit of control. Help me choose to believe You are who You say You are and You want to do all You say You can do in my life. Bring me into the place where I'm living every moment of every day in single-minded devotion to You.

Then, like Thomas, whose doubt was turned to faith by an encounter of Your Presence, I can declare the truth of who You are and Your rightful place in full control of my life: "My Lord and my God!" (John 20:28) In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.

Dear Friend, thank you so much for your prayers for the meetings in West Virginia this past weekend. We all saw the Lord move in mighty ways in both inner healing and miraculous power. A Vietnam veteran suffering from forty years of post-traumatic stress manifesting in his emotions and his body gave his testimony to Jesus' mighty power and love in church Sunday morning. And a pastor's wife suffering for years from great pain from a twisted spine bent over and touched the floor for the first time in a long time and raised up praising God with no pain. Praise God! Thank you for all your prayers and standing with us in our ministry of "healing from the inside out" as the Holy Spirit heals and frees the Body and Bride of Christ to fulfill our destiny in our generation.
