Morning by Morning, July 29, 2025 - “Share Your Bread with the Hungry”
Good morning, Lord Jesus. Wherever I go, You are there. You’ve sent me to Kenya, and You are here. I welcome You here in my heart, here in the land, here in every moment of my day. ...
We’re moved now from the ministry days of our evangelistic crusades in the region of Kenol and Mekuyu to the region of our crusades and outreach in Nyrie near Mount Kenya. Today we’ll be entering an area they call “the slums” down in a valley filled with people who struggle to survive. I’ll be joining the team in prayer and provision of food through a project with Pastor Jeff Bealmear’s church from Illinois and Bishop James Gachengo’s church here in Nyeri.
As I pray in the communion of Your Presence this morning, this Word comes to mind:
“Is this not the fast that I have chosen: To loose the bonds of wickedness, To undo the heavy burdens, To let the oppressed go free, And that you break every yoke? Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, And that you bring to your house the poor who are cast out; When you see the naked, that you cover him, And not hide yourself from your own flesh? Then your light shall break forth like the morning, Your healing shall spring forth speedily, And your righteousness shall go before you; The glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard. Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer; You shall cry, and He will say, ‘Here I am’” (Isaiah 58:6-9).
This fast, this call to sacrifice, that You have chosen includes the call “to share (our) bread with the hungry.”
Today we’ll share the bread that fills bodies and hearts by Your hands through ours. We’ll be Your feet in compassion and we’ll bow our knees in prayer for the people who’ve been trapped in this poverty. Give us Your words, as You stretch out Your hands. Give us Your prayers as we pray out over this land.
As important as this day of distribution and program of feeding will be, may there also be a moving of Your Spirit that looses the bonds of wickedness of the kingdom of darkness that hold people in the bondage of poverty, that undoes the heavy burdens of oppression and hunger that crushes their spirits, and break every yoke that would steal their hope and distort their dignity.
Even if we feel overwhelmed by the need, saddened by the despair, may we also find joy in the hearts of those who are find their fullness in You despite their emptiness in this world. As we minister the love and mercy of God, may You even fill us with the hope of these Promises of Your Word:
“He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap” (Psalm 113:7).
“This poor man called, and the Lord heard him; He saved him out of all his troubles” (Psalm 34:6).
“Blessed are you poor, For yours is the kingdom of God. Blessed are you who hunger now, For you shall be filled” (Luke 6:20-21).
By the mercy and grace of God, they shall be filled and so shall we, as we each turn to You to fill us with Your Spirit that empowers us with a perspective of life in the Kingdom of God wherever we live and whatever our present circumstances are:
“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).
Poverty can’t steel that. Temptation to despair can’t overcome that. Hopelessness will never prevail over that.
May You empower us all with that Heavenly perspective that no burden can crush and no yoke can bind. Wherever we are, whatever state we are in, whichever challenge we’re facing, You will be with us. As we call, You will answer. As we cry out, You will say, “Here I am.” In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
