Morning by Morning, September 18, 2025 – “By Your Words ...”

 

Morning by Morning, September 18, 2025 – “By Your Words ...” Good morning, Lord Jesus. You are “the Way and the Truth and the Life” (John 14:6). So as I begin my day here in the communion of prayer with You, I give myself to Your Way, Your Truth, and Your Life, as best as I can and all by Your grace. ... “Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. The good person brings good things out of a good treasure, and the evil person brings evil things out of an evil treasure. I tell you, on the day of judgment you will have to give an account for every careless word you utter, for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned” (Matthew 12:34-37). Our words matter. Our words reflect our heart. And according to Your Word we will be judged by our words. Which means we will be judged by our hearts, for our words reflect our hearts. So sanctify my words. Purify my heart. Then the good treasure of my heart can bring good things into my life and the lives of those who hear my words and see my heart. Even in the freedom we have to speak our words, let us also embrace the freedom we have to turn to You, to embrace You, to allow You to set our hearts right so that our words will be right. “Death and life are in the power of the tongue,     and those who love it will eat its fruits” (Proverbs 18:21). As said in The Message version: “Words kill, words give life;     they’re either poison or fruit — you choose.” Let my tongue speak life according to Your Life. Let my tongue speak Your truth in love (Ephesians 4:15). Let my tongue speak of You and Your ways and Your truth and Your life, because I’ve surrendered my tongue, my words, and my heart to You. Not just in a one-time prayer a long time ago, but every day in surrender and submission to You as both my Savior and my Lord — Lord my heart and Lord of my tongue. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Morning by Morning, September 17, 2025 – “Children of God” Who “Believe in His Name” Good morning, Lord Jesus. My Lord and Savior, fill me with Your Spirit as I begin my day in the communion of prayer with You – Father, Son and Holy Spirit of God. ... “As many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name” (John 1:12). This morning, I got up a little extra early to go to our local public Middle School with a group from the Bridge, our local church in Fredericksburg, Texas. Once a month we go before classes start to welcome the students with a simple time of worship and a word of encouragement from the Word of God. And, admittedly, we also give them donuts! “Devos and Donuts” our Youth Pastors call it, for devotionals and donuts. The students come and hear about Jesus and the love of God before they start their day at school. We invite the other youth pastors and leaders in our community to come join us as well. We praise You for our freedom of religion and freedom of speech, even on government property and public places, in a nation where we can still speak the name of Jesus. We thank You for the legal, Constitutional victory of the recent United States Supreme Court case decision of Kennedy v. Bremerton School District reaffirming Coach Kennedy’s right to take a knee and pray at public football games without fear or intimidation, along with our rights of freedom of religion and speech wherever we are in America as well. In a major shifting of the spiritual atmosphere of our nation, this case overruled years of bad law and reestablished the original intent of Constitutional law guaranteeing freedom of expression of religious conviction, whether in public or private. We are free to not only speak the name of Jesus but also to extend the love and truth of Jesus. In His name and in His love, we’re free to offer “the right to become children of God” for all who would come and hear and “believe in His name.”   Thank You for the students who came and heard, who came and received today! With donuts in their bellies, the Word of God in their spirits, and a song of worship in their hearts, may every one of these children of God carry the love of God down the halls, into the classrooms, onto the practice fields and band rooms and everywhere else Your light will shine in them and through them today! Do the same in us, as Your children of God, this day and every day. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today. Morning by Morning, September 15, 2025 – Arising in Courage and Confidence in the Face of Our Culture Good morning, Lord Jesus. I speak out Your name and listen for Your leading, just as You said: “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me” (John 10:27). ... As I listen, what comes to my heart are these words: “Courage does not back down. Confidence is grounded in the truth of what is right. And what is right will never change.” ... Yes, Lord. As I wait for Your Spirit to bring to mind a Scripture to confirm what I sense I’m hearing in my heart, this Word comes to mind: “Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the Law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:7-9). “This Book of the Law” was once written on tablets of stone (Exodus 34:1). But now You’ve written Your Law on our hearts (Jeremiah 31:33; Hebrews 8:10; Romans 2:15). Written “with the Spirit of the Living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets that are human hearts” (2 Corinthians 3:3). Despite the attacks in our current culture against what is right and true, against those who stand up and speak out for what is right and true, grounded in Your Word and filled with Your Spirit, may You keep giving us Your courage to not back down and keep giving us Your confidence to keep standing up and speaking out. Awaken us and empower us, ignite us and fan us into flame, that we may be courageous and confident in You, “speaking the truth in love” (Ephesians 4:15) — not just in truth, but also in love; not just in love, but also in truth. As Your Word goes on to exhort us, “Wake up, sleeper! Rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you!... making the most of every opportunity because the days are evil.... be filled with the Spirit.... always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ!” (Ephesians 5:14-20) In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today.
