Morning by Morning, September 11 - "Repairer of the Breach"

Good morning, Lord Jesus. As I remember the pain and terror my country endured on this day of September 11, twelve years ago, I also remember You and the pain and terror You endured for all of us. You are well-acquainted with suffering and grief, torture and terror, yet You endured and overcame for the joy that was set before You in the eternal peace You've prepared for us (Hebrews 12:1-2). From that place, lead my spirit in prayer this morning.  ...

"The Lord will guide you continually, and satisfy your needs in parched places, and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like spring of water, whose waters never fail. Your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt; you shall raise up the foundations of many generations; you shall be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer of streets to live in" (Isaiah 58:11-12).

Lord of all creation, Lord of every nation, give us a heart as a people that's humble before You -- calling upon Your name, seeking Your help, willingly choosing to be desperately dependent upon You alone as our Salvation. Forgive us for every measure of self-centered independence from You, for defiance from Your will and ways and authority over our lives, for arrogance to believe we can build our fortunes and destinies in our own image as a declaration and monument to our own power.

Renew us with a right Spirit, that we may rebuild the ruins of our lives with a right heart (Isaiah 58:6-10). Let us "take delight in the Lord" (v. 58:14). Then "(our) light shall rise in the darkness and (our) gloom be like the noonday" (v. 58:10). Then "(our) light shall break forth like the dawn and (our) healing shall spring up quickly; (our) vindication shall go before (us), the glory of the Lord shall be (our) rear guard. The (we) shall call, and the Lord will answer; (we) shall cry for help, and He will say, Here I Am" (v. 58:8-9).

By the power of Your grace, in the faithfulness of Your steadfast love and tender mercies, may we be a people freed from "pride and arrogance of heart," not rebuilding in our wisdom, not seeking rebirth in the spirit of this world, but by the Spirit of our God (Isaiah 9:8-10). Let Your Spirit be upon us that we may "be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord to display His glory. (Then in the power of Your Spirit alone, we) shall build up the ancient ruins, (we) shall raise up the former devastations; (we) shall repair the ruined cities, the devastations of many generations" (Isaiah 61:1-4). In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

My Friend,  I join with you in prayer for the continued healing of our nation and that our rebirth and rebuilding may be by the Spirit of the Lord in humility and faith before our God. I pray you would be a repairer of the breach by the power of our God in all your spheres of influence.  Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

I look forward to getting up early and writing these morning prayers from my morning prayer time each day and then sharing them with you. Morning by Morning, September 10 - The Woman and the Eagle

Good morning, Lord Jesus. You are King of kings and Lord of lords. All authority in heaven and earth has been given to You. Lord God Almighty -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit -- You are sovereign; You rule; Your reign over all the earth and all the inhabitants thereof. So I worship Your majesty, rest in Your security, and pray in Your intimacy as I begin this day in the peace of Your Presence.  ...

"So when the dragon saw that he had been thrown down to the earth, he pursued the woman who had given birth to the male child. But the woman was given the two wings of the great eagle, so that she could fly from the serpent into the wilderness, to her place where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time" (Revelation 12:13-14).

Lord, while there is much You have taught me, there is so much I don't yet understand. So help me keep grounded in Your Word and led by Your Spirit. When we face the controversies and crisis of this broken, fallen world, we hardly know how to pray. So we need to seek to hear Your voice, see what You're doing, and pray as Your Spirit leads, as best as we can and all by Your grace. "Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words. And God, who searches the heart, knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God" (Romans 8:26-27).

This morning, with such controversy and crisis looming in Syria and the Middle East, it seems You've brought the image of the woman and the eagle and the dragon to mind. I believe the prophecies and principles of Your Word have many levels of fulfillment, each in its measure and each in its time, until all are ultimately fulfilled. And Your Word will never fail; every word will come to pass, all in Your time and all in Your way (Ecclesiastes 3:11).

So I pray for the woman and I pray for the eagle. I pray for all they represent through each season and generation of the unfolding of time. I pray for Israel and I pray for America. I pray the strategies and the schemes of the dragon, and all it represents, would be exposed and cancelled. I pray a shield of protection around the one the serpent continues to try to sweep away like a flood in its fury and wrath (Revelation 12:15). Be a shield about her (Psalm 3:3). And I pray for "the earth" that will come to help the woman and all she represents in the time of her need (Revelation 12:16). I pray for the true peace that can only come from the One who is eternally our "Prince of Peace" (Isaiah 9:6; John 14:27). In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

My Friend,  I pray you would rest in the security of the Lord and pray from the place of intimacy with Him as the Spirit leads. I join with you in prayer for the people of Syria, Israel, and the Middle East, as well as all governmental authorities making choices that concern their destiny (1 Timothy 2:1-3). Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

Morning by Morning, September 9 - Summed Up in Love

Good morning, Lord Jesus. I'm one of Your sheep; let me hear Your voice. I'm one of Your disciples; teach me Your ways. I'm one of Your followers; lead me by Your Spirit. ...

"Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. The commandments, 'You shall not commit adultery; You shall not murder; You shall not steal; You shall not covet'; and any other commandment, are summed up in this word, 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore, love is the fulfilling of the law" (Romans 13:8-10).

When I love, I'm like You. When I love, I please You. When I love, I fulfill Your law and walk in Your ways. All of Scripture, all the commandments, all You expect from me today and every day is "summed up in this word, 'Love ... "

So, Lord, teach me to love. Not just from my head, but from my heart. No just with my words, but with my actions. No just on the surface, but from deep down inside -- "deeply from the heart" (1 Peter 1:22).

If there is one thing I need to learn in this short wisp of time between the womb and the grave along my journey through this broken, fallen world before I come home, it is to know and embrace and live this word, "Love." To know and embrace this is to know and embrace You. To live this out in my life is to live my life in You. "Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God; everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love" (1 John 4:7-8).

I humbly and honestly admit I have must to learn, and probably much to un-learn. But Lord, I see clearly from Your Word You've quickened in my heart today that learning to love must be the priority of my life. It's all summed up in this. So let it be so in me. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

My Friend,  may God who is Love empower you to love, deeply from your heart, as the priority of your life. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

Morning by Morning, September 6 - Created to be like God

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Help me start this day and every day embraced by my Father, centered in Christ, and filled with the Holy Spirit.  ...

"Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And all of us, with unveiled faces, seeing the glory of the Lord as though reflected in a mirror, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another; for this comes from the Lord, the Spirit" (2 Corinthians 3:17-18).

Come, Holy Spirit. Free me to from every veil that would keep me from seeing the glory of the Lord. Stir in my heart to lift up my eyes to worship the Lord in spirit and truth. As I do, I am being transformed, changed into the image of God by the Spirit of God, from glory to glory, from the inside out.

We become like the One we worship -- "transformed into the same image." Lord God -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit -- I want to be more like You.

I can be selfish ... You are selfless.
I can be prideful ... You are humble.
I can be sinful ... You are holy.
I can be rude ... You are kind.
I can be confused ... You are wise.
I can be deceived ... You are true.
I can be weary ... You are strong.
I can be afraid ... You are fearless.
I can be timid ... You are bold.
I can be crude ... You are pure.
I can be faithless ... You are faithful.
I can waivering ... You are steadfast.
I can be insecure ... You are confident.
I can be hurtful ... You are healing.
I can be controlling ... You are freeing.
I can be bitter ... You are forgiving.
I can be frustrated ... You are patient.
I can be stingy ... You are generous.
I can be discouraged ... You are expectant.
I can be heavy ... You are happy.
I can be lost ... You are certain.
I can be evil ... You are good.
I can be un-loveable ... You are love.

Lord, make me more like You (1 Peter 1:16). May You increase, as I decrease (John 3:30). Conform me into the image of the Son of God You've created me to be (Romans 8:29). As You are, so let me be in this world (1 John 4:17). Renew my mind and my heart from the inside out, from glory to glory (Romans 12:2). Empower me by Your Spirit to will what is right, to do what is right, to become what is right (Philippians 2:13). This is Your will for me -- that I would be like You (1 Thessalonians 5:23). It always has been and it always will be (Genesis 1:26). You created me to be like You. Lord, help me. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

Morning by Morning, September 5 - Clean and Pure by the Blood of Christ

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Through the blood of the Lamb, I draw near to You and ask You to draw near to me.  ...

"Who can say, 'I have made my heart clean; I am pure from my sin'?"

Lord, You know every thought in my mind that is not true, every desire in my heart that is not pure. You know every mistake I've made and every failure I've endured. You know every way I fall short of Your will for me and my hopes for myself. And yet, You love me. Yet, You still never leave me, never forsake me, never send me away and never let me go. Your love remains and Your grace never fades.

Despite all that I've done and left undone, despite and all that I deserve in the eyes of the world and of the accuser, Your promise of Your grace through the power of Your love never fails:  "The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness" (Lamentations 3:22-23). I am forever in need of Your grace and forever embraced by Your love.

So Lord, make my heart clean; purify me from sin. "Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow... Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me" (Psalm 51:7-10). With clean hands and a pure heart, cleansed by the blood of the Lamb and purified in the fire of the Holy Spirit, all by the mercy and the grace of my God, I receive Your invitation to ascend Your mountain, bow humbly at Your feet, and be lifted up into Your Presence (Psalm 24:3-4; James 4:10).

I "have been brought near by the blood of Christ" (Ephesians 2:13). Thank You that now and forever "nothing in all creation will be able to separate (me) from the love of God in Christ Jesus (my) Lord" (Romans 8:38-39). In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

My Friend,  may you know the truth every day that you are clean and pure by the blood of Christ, embraced by the love and grace of our God that never fails. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

Morning by Morning, September 4 - Morning Meditation

Good morning, Lord Jesus. You're my Lord and Savior, my Father and Friend. I worship You and welcome You into every moment of my day.  ...

"May the glory of the Lord endure forever; may the Lord rejoice in His works -- who looks on the earth and it trembles, who touches the mountains and they smoke. I will sing to the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have being. May my meditation be pleasing to Him, for I rejoice in the Lord" (Psalm 104:31-34).

In these first moments of my morning -- before I give my thoughts to any other matter, before I begin to think of anything else I need to do today, before I open my mouth to be filled with any other word besides Your name and Your praise -- I want to meditate on You alone. I want to speak Your name, sing Your praise, and seek Your face. I want to take time sit in the silence, to wait for the leading of Your Spirit, to embrace the majesty and mystery of Your Presence here with me, even here within me. ...

May my meditation be pleasing to You. May my offering of my heart and my time be a gift You enjoy. Though I'm the one who needs it, I do hope it brings You some measure of joy to receive it. "Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to You, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer" (Psalm 19:14). In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

My Friend,  may the Spirit of the Lord draw you into a deep place of meditation upon our God and His Word and His Presence within your heart every day. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

Morning by Morning, August 29 - Change of Heart

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Make me more like You today.  ...

"A new heart I will give you, and a new spirit I will put within you; and I will remove from your body the heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. I will put My Spirit within you, and make you follow My statutes and be careful to observe My ordinances. Then you shall live in the land that I gave to your ancestors; and you shall be My people, and I will be your God" (Ezekiel 36:24).

What You promised to Your people Israel, You promise for all who will humble themselves to seek Your face and receive Your Spirit. You'll change us from the inside out -- from a heart of stone to a heart of flesh, from hardness of heart to tenderness of heart, from insisting on our ways to trusting in Your ways. "For it is God who is at work in (us), enabling (us) both to will and to work for His good pleasure" (Philippians 2:13).

With Your Spirit abiding deeply within our spirits, at work within us from the inside out -- encouraging us, enabling us, empowering us -- we will inherit the fullness of all You've provided for us -- identity in You, destiny in Your will, an eternal shalom of true peace with You, peace with one another, and peace within ourselves (Romans 5:1). You will be our God and we will be Your people forever, for "God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us" (Romans 5:5).

Come, Holy Spirit. I need a change of heart. I need a heart like Jesus, who perfectly reveals the heart of my Father. Come change my heart from the inside out. From Deep to deep, and Spirit to spirit, keep filling my spirit and changing my heart this day and every day, until Your nature becomes my nature, Your thoughts become my thoughts, and Your ways become my ways (Romans 8:29). In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

My Friend,  may you have a change of heart today, as our Father God keeps pouring His Holy Spirit into your heart to make you more like Jesus every day. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

Morning by Morning, August 27 - Best Friends Forever

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Let me hear what You're saying, see what You're doing, sense what You're saying, here in these first moments of my morning as I wait upon the leading of Your Holy Spirit, embraced in the arms of my Father.  ...

"Thus the Lord used to speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend" (Exodus 33:11).

Lord God Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, You are the God of all creation, You are the Lord of all the universe, and yet You humble Yourself to speak us. You even delight to speak to us as friends (John 15:12-15).

Abraham was a "friend of God," and by the mercy of Your grace and the mystery of faith, so am I (James 2:23). So are all Your children who embrace Your love and Your grace as Father and Friend. Abraham and Moses knew You so intimately in their journey with You as friends, yet in Christ, we are now in relationship with You through an even "better covenant" with even "better promises" (Hebrews 8:6). "Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is so high that I cannot attain it" (Psalm 139:6). "O the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God!" (Romans 11:33) Yet, it's all true.

You love us like a Father and journey with us like a Friend -- the best Father we could ever have and our Best Friend Forever. I praise Your holy name and embrace Your holy friendship, as I let Your truth sink deeply into my soul. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Morning by Morning, August 26 - Ready Now and Forever

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Speak to my spirit; stir my heart; order my steps; lead me to honor You through my life today.  ...

" 'Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns. Let us rejoice and exult and give Him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His bride has made herself ready; to her it has been granted to be clothed with fine linen, bright and pure' -- for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints" (Revelation 19:6-8).

With the body of Christ that is whole, with the bride of Christ that is holy, I want to be ready for the coming of Christ on the Day of the Lord (Ephesians 5:25-27). And at the same time, I want every day to be the Day of the Lord in my heart and through my life now (2 Peter 3:1-18).

Every day counts; every moment matters; every choice has consequences. So let me "be careful then how (I) live, not as unwise people but as wise, making the most of the time.... (Let me) not be foolish, but understand with the will of the Lord is" (Ephesians 5:15-17). "The world and its desire are passing away, but those who do the will of God live forever" (1 John 2:17). So as best as I can and all by Your grace, let me be ready, let me use my time well, let me do the will of God, let me live forever, and let the Almighty One who reigns forever live in me now. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Morning by Morning, August 22 - "Greater Boldness and Without Fear"

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Be high and lifted up in my words and thoughts and actions today.  ...

"I want you to know, beloved, that what has happened to me has actually helped to spread the gospel, so that it has become known throughout the whole imperial guard and to everyone else that my imprisonment is for Christ; and most of the brothers and sisters, having been made confident in the Lord by my imprisonment, dare to speak the word with greater boldness and without fear" (Philippians 1:12-14).

You are the God who redeems all things. You cause good to come out of everything we'll entrust to You. You never waste a moment of our suffering or our sins, our persecutions or our pain if we will give it to You to be cleansed in Your blood, sanctified in Your fire, and then used for Your glory. That's how You "cause all things (to) work together for good for those who love (You) and are called according to (Your) purpose" (Romans 8:28).

You love to give us "beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness" (Isaiah 61:3, NKJ). Even as Paul sat in a prison shackled in chains, his witness went further than his freed feet could ever carry him. His body was bound but his heart and his hope went to the ends of the earth. His example of faithfulness still inspires every new generation of the followers of Christ to "speak the word with greater boldness and without fear."

Lord, let me be bold and fearless today. Paul said, "Remember my chains" to remind us of the high cost of discipleship and to never offer any excuses for letting someone else do our job of sharing the good news of forgiveness and freedom, hope and healing through Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior (Colossians 4:18). You said, "Remember Me" to remind us You laid down Your life for us so that we could live our lives for You (Luke 22:19). Inspire me by Your Word and empower me by Your Spirit to live my life for You today. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

My Friend,  I pray you will be inspired and empowered with great boldness and without fear to share your heart and the hope of Christ that is within you everywhere the Lord sends you today. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!
