Morning by Morning, August 18, 2026 — “Under the Shadow of the Almighty” Good morning, Lord Jesus. My Rock and Refuge, my Shelter and Savior, I look to You and call on Your name to begin my day intentionally in communion with You—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God. … This morning You’re bringing to mind the promises of Psalm 91, promises for all who find their shelter in You: “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust’” (Psalm 91:1-2). As I pray Your Word and speak out loud the phrase of this verse, “under the shadow of the Almighty,” an image comes to mind of Your hand over the life of one who is trusting in You. With the eyes of my heart, that “shadow of the Almighty” is a shadow created by Your shelter, Your protection and safety, Your shielding and security. Lord, I put my trust in You. I seek to dwell in You, to abide in You, safe and secure in You. You are the place of my protection and provision. You’re the Source of all I need. You stretch out Your hand to cover me in Your shadow. Here in the place of Your Presence, You deliver me from the plans and schemes of my spiritual enemy. You cover me and protect me from pestilence and destruction, from fears and attacks from whatever source (v. 3-6). Here under Your shadow, no evil can befall me nor plague come near me. You give Your angels charge over me and all You’ve entrusted to me in my family and relationships, in every place You’ve positioned me and every task You’ve entrusted to me. In all my ways, You will keep me on the right path and in the refuge of Your will (v. 7-13). Here in the secret place of the Most High, I embrace all Your promises and blessings, Your hand of protection and favor over me and every area of my life, according to Your Word. Personalizing the final verses of blessing of this Psalm You put in my heart today, I declare Your Word in faith: “Because I have set my love upon You, therefore You will deliver me; You will set me on high, because I have known Your name. I shall call upon You, and You will answer me; You will be with me in trouble; You will deliver me and honor me. With long life You will satisfy me, And show me Your salvation” (v. 14-16 personalized). Thank You for Your hand over my life, as I seek to live my life under the shadow of the Almighty. Morning by Morning, August 17, 2026 — “The God Who Answers by Fire” Good morning, Lord Jesus. I open my heart to listen for Your voice, for Your sheep hear Your voice and follow You (John 10:27). … As I wait, I hear the words of Elijah rising up in my heart: “I will call on the name of the LORD; and the God who answers by fire, He is God” (1 Kings 18:24). You are the God who answers by fire. “For our God is a consuming fire” (Hebrews 12:29). To be honest, sometimes, we want You to consume our enemies with Your fire—whether foreign or domestic, whether on the other side of the world or even a little closer to home. But where we need Your consuming fire the most is right here in our own hearts. Lord God, consume everything in me that’s not yet like You. Burn everything out of me that hinders me from seeing You as You are and myself as I am, from hearing Your heart and following Your voice. You are “a refiner’s fire,” seeking to purge our hearts “as gold and silver” that we may offer our hearts to You and You alone “in righteousness” (Malachi 3:2-3). You burn away the “wood, hay, and straw” that’s less than Your heart in our lives if we’ll open our hearts and surrender our hearts to You and Your holy fire (1 Corinthians 3:12). You burn up “the chaff with (Your) unquenchable fire” if we will allow You to “baptize (us) with the Holy Spirit and fire” (Matthew 3:11-12). Come, Holy Spirit. Baptize me anew in Your Spirit and Your Holy Fire. Burn everything out of me that’s not yet like You. And set me ablaze with Your Heart and Your Spirit to make me more like You today. For You are the God who answers by Fire! In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged this day. Morning by Morning, August 13, 2026 — “Volunteer Freely on the Day of Battle” Good morning, Lord Jesus. As I begin my day here in the communion of prayer with You, help me hear Your Heart and pray Your Word. … As I wait for Your leading, this comes to my heart: “My people will volunteer freely on the day of battle. And every day is the day of battle. A battle for your soul, your health, your spiritual life, your family, your community, your nation, and all you hold dear. But take heart. I will lead you. And you will overcome on the day of battle. Your victory is already won in Me.” … Yes, Lord. And of course, this Scripture comes immediately to mind to confirm with Your written Word what I believe I’m hearing through Your spoken word in my heart: “Your people will volunteer freely on the day of Your power; In holy splendor, from the womb of the dawn, Your youth are to You as the dew” (Psalm 110:3 NASB). We are Your people. And there’s no doubt we’re in a battle every day. And at the same time, every day is “the day of Your power.” Your power is mighty to save, mighty to heal, mighty to free, mighty to change every heart that will open to You and every circumstance we bring before You. For at the authority and power of Your name, every knee must bow and every tongue confess that “Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians 2:10). But You give us the choice to turn to You, to trust in You, or to depend upon ourselves, trusting in our power and wisdom, leaning on our own understanding instead of acknowledging You in all our ways (Proverbs 3:3-6). We can “volunteer freely” to join You, arrayed “in holy splendor,” in the holiness of heart and life fully surrendered to You and Your will and Your ways for our life, or not. I volunteer, Lord. I say, Yes, Lord. Here I am. Send me. Send me into the battles of my day, in the whole armor of God (Ephesians 6:11), clothed in Christ (Romans 13:14), and filled with Your Holy Spirit (Ephesians 5:18). I volunteer freely and confidently because the battle belongs to the Lord! (1 Samuel 17:47) In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged this day. Morning by Morning, August 12, 2026 — Thirsty and Dry for What Only God Can Satisfy Good morning, Lord Jesus. Take me by the hand and lead me by Your Spirit, as I arise and go with You on the journey of my day. … “For I will pour water on the thirsty land,    and streams on the dry ground; I will pour out my Spirit on your offspring,    and my blessing on your descendants. They will spring up like grass in a meadow,    like poplar trees by flowing streams” (Isaiah 44:3-4). We’re thirsty and dry for what only You can satisfy! Pour out Your Living Water, Lord. Pour our Your Holy Spirit, Father. We need a move of Your power and love, a move of Your mercy and grace. Where we’ve grown weary and tired, where our hope has been deferred, where we’ve been tempted to settle for something far less than Your promises and purposes for our lives, awaken us and revive us. “Revive us again!” (Psalm 85:6) As I’m stirred to pray, I hear back in my heart Your prophetic invitation that’s never changed: “Ho! Everyone who thirsts, Come to the waters!” (Isaiah 55:1) “For waters shall burst forth in the wilderness, And streams in the desert” (Isaiah 35:6). In surrender, we come to the waters. In desperate faith, we come to waters. In fervent, awakening prayer for all You are to us, for all You have for us, and all You desire to do through us, we come to the waters! And we believe by faith, Your waters are coming to us. Your flowing streams of living water are coming to us—into every desert and wilderness place in our hearts and in our land. Just as You said: “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled!” (Matthew 5:6) In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged this day.
