Morning by Morning, September 14, 2026 — Ten Days of Awe Between the Feast of Trumpets and the Day of Atonement Good morning, Lord Jesus. I speak Your name and listen for Your leading, to begin my day grounded in Your Word and led by Your Spirit, for the sons and daughters of God are led by the Spirit of God (Romans 8:14). … As I wait for Your leading this morning, I’m reminded we’ve just entered “the Ten Days of Awe” within the rhythms of the biblical calendar—the ten days between the Feast of Trumpets and the Day of Atonement. “Let all the earth fear the Lord;    let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him!” (Psalm 33:8)   All the feasts, like all the Law and the Prophets and all of Scripture, are ultimately fulfilled in You, Lord Jesus, our Savior and Sovereign Lord, the Living Word of God (Matthew 5:17; John 1:14). As You explained to the two disciples on the walk to Emmaus: “Then (Jesus) said to them, ‘These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.’ And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures” (Luke 24:44-45). So as we remember these days on our spiritual journey, may we remember their purpose. These “appointed festivals of the Lord”—mo’edim in the original Hebrew language of Scripture—are times of repentance and renewed commitment, of both holy convocation and joyful celebration, in the reverent fear and awe of the Lord our God (Leviticus 23:1-44). These ten days speak of a calling to embrace Your invitation to our hearts. Not just ten days but every day. Standing in awe of You. Bowing our hearts before You. In humility and repentance, in surrender and submission, in faithfulness and obedience that flow from a heart of declared dependence upon You alone as God. In our hearts, we both honor You and humble ourselves before You, in both the love of God and the fear of the Lord. These are days of repentance and return, introspection and intimacy, solemnity in the searching of our souls to surrender to You all that is not yet like You: “Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting” (Psalm 139:23-24). But as we humble ourselves before You, we’re in the place where You can lift us up and set us free and establish us secure in our identity that You can fulfill our destiny in all that’s in Your heart to do in us and through us in our world. “Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up” (James 4:10). Thank You for all Your mercy and grace, for Your eternal will, as we look to You during these days and every day, excited to see all You will do. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged this day. Morning by Morning, September 11, 2026 — “Rise from the Rubble” Good morning, Lord Jesus. I’m listening for Your leading as I begin my day with You—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God. … As I write out the date September 11, 2026, I’m, of course, with all the world, remembering that day of 9/11 twenty-five years ago today when the world changed. In the heart of New York, at the Pentagon in Washington, and in a field in Pennsylvania, terror struck America. We remember that day. And we remember all who lost their lives, whether as victims or desperately trying to help the victims as first responders. But today I’m also remembering the iconic symbol that came out of the rubble—called “The World Trade Center Cross” or “The Cross of 9/11.” As I ponder that thought, what comes to my heart this morning is this: “Rise from the rubble.” … And this Word comes to mind. A Word spoken at a time of devastation in Israel, that didn’t deny the pain and heartbreak and disillusionment of the times, but also spoke a Word of hope: “Those from among you Shall build the old waste places; You shall raise up the foundations of many generations; And you shall be called the Repairer of the Breach, The Restorer of Streets to Dwell In” (Isaiah 58:12). In the wake of devastation of that day, one of the most enduring symbols became the intersecting steel beams discovered amid the rubble—the steel beams in the shape of a cross. It’s by the cross that we can rise from the rubble. It’s by Your sacrifice of love, Your encouragement of hope, Your unrelenting promise to be with all who would turn to You in the rubble of whatever devastation we’ve been through or that we’re going through. You see us. You love us. You’re always there and always at work to redeem us and repair us and restore us. Trusting in You, hoping in You, we can “rise from the rubble.” Lord, may each one of us individually and all of us as a nation “rise from the rubble.” Not in our own power or wisdom, our own self-determination or self-reliance. But humbly, faithfully turning to You. “Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit, says the Lord of hosts” (Zechariah 4:6). By the power of Your grace, we will “rise from the rubble.” In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged this day. Morning by Morning, September 9, 2026 — Set Free. Filled Up. On Fire. Good morning, Lord Jesus. King of kings and Lord of lords, come rule and reign in my heart today (Revelation 19:16). … To set the tone for the year, as we kicked off our annual Tuesday Night Class, Free to Be Like Jesus, last night, I declared our goal: “Set free. Filled up. On fire.” … Lord, You want to set us free of all that holds us back from being all You created us to be: “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed” (John 8:36). You want to fill us up, fill us afresh, fill us to overflowing with Your Holy Spirit: “And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit” (Ephesians 5:18). You want to set us ablaze with Your holy fire, expressing Your heart and Your power in us and through us. That we may be a people on this earth who carry the character of the nature of Jesus in our hearts and the authority of the name of Jesus in our lives: “I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire” (Matthew 3:11). “And being assembled together with them, (Jesus) commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, ‘which,’ He said, ‘you have heard from Me; for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.’ … ‘But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth’” (Acts 1:4-8). Thank You, Father. Come, Holy Spirit. Move in Your power to set us free to be like Jesus. “As He is, so are we in this world” (1 John 4:17). May we be conformed to the image of the Son of God (Romans 8:29). May we “grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ” (Ephesians 4:15). Secure in our identity, growing up in spiritual maturity, expressing Your authority through our lives with Your character being formed in our hearts, may we live into the fullness of all You have for us and desire to do through us. “He who has begun a good work in (us) will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:6). All in Your way, all in Your time, all for Your glory. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged this day.
