New Jerusalem in the New Year 1-1-10

Good morning, Lord Jesus. You are the Prince of Peace, and I declared Your praise to begin this New Year from the city You have named for peace at the heart of the earth—Jerusalem. … “But You, O Lord, are enthroned forever; Your name endures to all generations. You will rise up and have compassion on Zion, for it is time to favor it; the appointed time has come. For Your servants hold its stones dear, and have pity upon its dust. The nations will fear the name of the Lord, and all the kings of the earth Your glory. He will regard the prayer of the destitute, and will not despise their prayer. Let this be recorded for a generation to come, so that a people yet unborn may praise the Lord: That He looked down from Him holy height, from heaven the Lord looked at the earth, to hear the groans of the prisoners, to set free those who were doomed to die; so that the name of the Lord may be declared in Zion, and His praise in Jerusalem, when people gather together, and kingdoms, to worship the Lord” (Psalm 102:12-22). Jerusalem is the City of our God. Here set apart the holy place where Abraham was willing to sacrifice his only son, but You provided a lamb instead. And here, in the same place, You were willing to sacrifice Your only Son, who is the Lamb of Sacrifice. Here, You were crucified, dead, and buried. And here You were raised from the dead. Here, You ascended into heaven, and here You will return in the same way. Lord, let Your name be declared in Zion; let Your praise be proclaimed in Jerusalem. And one day, there will be a New Jerusalem. Here in this place in a generation to come, the broken will be healed, the bound will be free; there will be no more wars or sadness or sorrow, but only peace and joy in the reign of the King of Peace. “Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, the New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne declaring, ‘See, the home of God is among mortals. He will dwell with them as their God; they will be His peoples, and God himself will be with them; He will wipe every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; mourning and crying and pain will be no more, for the first things have passed away.’ And the One who is seated on the throne said, ‘See, I am making all things new’ ” (Revelation 21:1-5). As the season of 2009 comes to a close and the season of 2010 begins, I “pray for the peace of Jerusalem. May they prosper who love you. Peace be within your walls, and security within your towers. For the sake of my relatives and friends I will say, ‘Peace be within you.’ For the sake of the house of the Lord our God, I will seek your good’ ” (Psalm 122:6-9). Lord Jesus, Prince of Peace, at the beginning of the New Year, I pray for the peace of the New Jerusalem to come—here in my heart and here in the earth. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
