David’s Messiah and Living Hope - March 24

Good morning, Lord Jesus. You’re my Savior and my Lord. I speak out Your name and listen for Your voice, as I start this day centered in You. …

“For David says, concerning Him, ‘I saw the Lord always before me, for He is at my right hand so that I will not be shaken; therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced; moreover my flesh will live in hope. For you will not abandon my soul to Hades, or let Your Holy One experience corruption. You have made known to me the ways of life; You will make me full of gladness with Your Presence’ … David spoke of the resurrection of the Messiah” (Acts 2:25-31).

You are the resurrected Messiah. You are our Living Hope. Though You were crucified, dead, and buried as the Son of Man in human form on this earth for our sins, You were not abandoned by the Father to Hades and never knew the corruption of Your body in death. Instead You descended into the deepest depths of hell itself, victoriously declaring the gospel of truth and life even to those who were bound there by their sin and rebellion (1 Peter 4:5-6). And then the Father raised You from the dead and into the heights of the heavens to rule and reign in glory and victory over all (Acts 2:24).

Though David lived a thousand years before Your birth, death, and resurrection on this earth as the Son of Man, living in the flesh, he looked ahead with prophetic hope for the Holy One Who was to come. And though David’s life was not was not always holy and pure, though his hands were stained with blood and his heart was stained with sin, he knew his God. Though he lived through troubled times, when the promises of God often seemed delayed and impossible to be fulfilled, he was a man “after (God’s) own heart” (1 Samuel 13:14).

David’s intimacy with You encouraged him and sustained him. You were ever before him in his thoughts and ever with him by his side. So he was not shaken. His heart was glad and his tongue rejoiced, whatever the battles he faced and the circumstances he endured, because he lived in the hope You had sealed in his heart. You taught him and led him in Your ways of life and made him full of gladness with Your Presence.

By Your mercy and grace, his failures did not cause You to forsake him and his fears did not paralyze or overwhelm him. He kept looking to You, trusting in You, singing songs of praise and writing prayers of hope, as he led others to You—and still does by his words that are now forever recorded in Your Word.

David’s Messiah—his Savior, Lord, and Living Hope—is ours as well. Jesus Messiah—the Anointed and Holy One of God—You’re my Lord and the Lord of all. You are the Holy One Who is to come; and at the same time, You are the Holy One Who is always here. As You have said, “I Am the Alpha and the Omega,’ says the Lord God, Who is and Who was and Who is to come, the Almighty” (Revelation 1:8). Yes, You are. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays
