Morning by Morning, November 9 - “Trust My Threshing.” Good morning, Lord Jesus. My Rock, my Refuge, my Firm Foundation, I wait for You and listen for Your leading, for Your sheep hear Your voice so Your disciples can follow You by the leading of Your Spirit (John 10:3). ... As I look with the eyes of my spirit, I believe You are showing me an old-fashioned, wooden winnowing fork, with an old man thrusting the wheat and the chaff up into the air. And I believe I hear Your still, small voice in my heart, saying: “I use conflict to cull out the truth. Through the threshing, all becomes clear. Through the separation, I am sorting out what is true and what is false, what is right and what is wrong, what is of Me and what is of this world. Trust My threshing. Do not fear or be discouraged by the conflict. Like the old man, I am in control; and I am at work in ways that will accomplish My purposes. Trust My threshing.” ... Yes, Lord. I don’t know if the threshing is in my own heart and soul and mind and strength or if it’s the threshing of my nation through the conflict of these elections or the threshing of the social battles of our day or something else or all of it. But whatever the threshing is, I sense a deep peace in this prophetic picture to rest in You, to trust in You, to trust Your threshing. ... This Scripture from Your written Word comes to mind in confirmation of the testing of what I believe I’m hearing and seeing through this spoken word in my heart: “His winnowing fork is in His hand, and He will clear His threshing floor and gather His wheat into the barn, but the chaff He will burn with unquenchable fire” (Matthew 3:12). As I focus on these words of Scripture, what resonates in my spirit right now is how firmly You are in control. It’s Your hand, Your threshing floor, Your wheat. You’re the One doing the winnowing, the threshing, the gathering, and the burning. Lord, thresh the chaff out of me. Winnow away whatever is in me that is not yet like You. Give me the grace and courage, the patience and persistence, to embrace the process of transformation, as You are conforming me and each of Your children into the image of the Son of God (Romans 8:29). In the threshing, You are making each of us more like Jesus each day through all we face and endure and overcome (1 John 4:17). As we keep our eyes on You, You are changing us into Your image from glory to glory by the work of Your Spirit in each one of us (2 Corinthians 3:18). This astounding Scripture comes to mind of Your amazing grace and great purpose for our lives in the midst of our world, using all we overcome in our world through trusting in You to make us more like You: “His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us to His own glory and excellence, by which He has granted to us His precious and very great promises, so that through them (we) may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire” (2 Peter 1:3-4). Just as You are at work in us -- children of God and disciples of Jesus Christ, growing in the security of our true identity, our spiritual maturity, and our prophetic destiny -- You are at work in our world. So I pray for that same grace and courage, that same patience and persistence, to keep trusting You in the ways You are at work, winnowing away and threshing through in my community, in my nation, and our world. By the power of the grace of God, I choose to trust Your threshing. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
