Morning by Morning, December 5 - Sevenfold Spirit of the Lord upon the Coming Messiah Good morning, Lord Jesus. I’m listening for Your leading. ... “There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, And a Branch shall grow out of his roots. The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him, The Spirit of wisdom and understanding, The Spirit of counsel and might, The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord” (Isaiah 11:1-2) Your Word prophesied of the coming of the Messiah -- coming through the family tree of Jesse, the father of David. This Messiah would be a son of David in the family tree of humanity; and at the same time, this Messiah would be the Son of God from the family tree of the Father of all. “The Spirit of the Lord” would “rest upon Him.” And every dimension and expression of the Spirit of the Lord would be fully expressed through Him -- wisdom and understanding, counsel and might, knowledge and the fear of the Lord. Many would call this an expression of the Sevenfold Spirit of the Lord. With “righteousness” and “faithfulness” power and authority would be released “with the rod of His mouth” and “the breath of His lips,” as He honors His Father with “delight’ in “the fear of the Lord,” as One with the Father’s Heart and One with the Father’s Spirit (v. 3-5). Like the six branches coming out of the stem of a menorah with seven candle lights burning, with three branches extending from each side of the center stem, like the lampstand in the tabernacle, the Spirit of the Lord is the center stem (Exodus 25:31). And out of the center stem come wisdom and understanding to the left and the right, counsel and might to the left and the right, knowledge and the fear of the Lord to the left and the right. Each of the six side stems turn up to hold their candle burning with light to match the burning light of the center stem. This is a prophetic picture of the One who would be “the Light of the World.” In the words of the Messiah, Jesus the Christ, “I AM the Light of the World. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the Light of Life” (John 8:12). We welcome the Light of our Messiah, of our Christ, into our hearts and into our world. We desperately need the Spirit of the Lord. We desperately need Your wisdom and understanding, Your counsel and might, Your knowledge and the fear of the Lord. And we thank You for Promise of Your Word and the fulfillment of this Prophecy of the Messiah: “In Him was Life, and the Life was the Light of men. The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it” (John 1:4-5 ESV). Lord, let the Light of Your Menorah, the Light of our Messiah, shine into the darkness of our world with the Light of Your Life in this season of renewed hope and expectant faith. We long for Your coming. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
