Morning by Morning, December 29 - Led by Angels and Dreams in Supernatural Guidance Good morning, Lord Jesus. I listen for Your leading and lean into Your Presence, abiding in communion with You -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God. ... “Now when (the wise men) had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, ‘Arise, take the young Child and His mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I bring you word; for Herod will seek the young Child to destroy Him.’ When he arose, he took the young Child and His mother by night and departed for Egypt, and was there until the death of Herod, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, ‘Out of Egypt I called My Son’ (Matthew 2:13-14). Angels and dreams guided the family of Jesus out of harm’s way. And, of course, You were the supernatural Source of all that spiritual activity and guidance that saved the life of Jesus. When it was time to come “out of Egypt” and return to the land of Israel that Jesus could fulfill His destiny, You once again used the supernatural means of angels and dreams to bring guidance and direction: “Now when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, saying, ‘Arise, take the young Child and His mother, and go to the land of Israel, for those who sought the young Child’s life are dead.’ Then he arose, took the young Child and His mother, and came into the land of Israel. But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning over Judea instead of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. And being warned by God in a dream, he turned aside into the region of Galilee. And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, ‘He shall be called a Nazarene’” (Matthew 2:19-23). Lord, make me more sensitive to the supernatural realm of Your angels and dreams and all the other ways You seek to lead me and guide by Your Spirit. Sharpen my discernment. Open the eyes of my heart for me to receive the spirit of wisdom and understanding (Ephesians 1:17-18). Awaken my spiritual senses to be more aware of Your will and Your ways that You are setting before me (Ephesians 5:13-14). You explained to Job his deep need to perceive Your Presence and Your guidance through spiritual means of visions and dreams to overcome our trials and follow Your leading: “For God may speak in one way, or in another, Yet man does not perceive it. In a dream, in a vision of the night, When deep sleep falls upon men, While slumbering on their beds, Then He opens the ears of men, And seals their instruction. In order to turn man from his deed, And conceal pride from man, He keeps back his soul from the Pit, And his life from perishing by the sword” (Job 33:14-18). As Your children, we’re to be led by Your Spirit in the spiritual means You choose. “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God” (Romans 8:14). You call us to set aside our pride that relies only on our natural reasoning and draw us near to You, leaning not on our own understanding, but rather trusting in You with all our heart in the humility of following Your spiritual leading (Proverbs 3:5-6). “The natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned” (1 Corinthians 2:14). “But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God” (1 Corinthians 2:10). There were prophetic words declared over the life of Jesus long before He was born -- including these that He come out of Egypt even though He would be born in Bethlehem to grow up in Nazareth of Galilee to be called a Nazarene. And at the same time, Joseph and Mary and Jesus would need to discern Your supernatural leading and choose to obey Your spiritual guidance for their free will to align with Your prophetic words and for Your prophetic words to confirm their free will choices. There’s such a mystery of faith living our lives in the tension of both Your sovereignty and our free will, living in both Your grace and our faith, living in both Your supernatural realm and our natural realm. As the Apostle Paul exclaimed in his attempts to express these spiritual tensions which are all true at the same time, “Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out! For who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has become His counselor?” (Romans 11:33-34) Heavenly Father, send Your Holy Spirit. Send Your heavenly angels and holy dreams. Send Your spirit of wisdom and revelation to open the eyes of my heart. Today, let me hear Your voice and not harden my heart or my spirit in rebellion to leading of Your Spirit (Hebrews 3:15). Take away any remaining reluctance and mistrust of supernatural guidance, that I may be a child of God, led by the Spirit of God, through every spiritual means You choose in Your sovereignty to help me make right choices with my will to fulfill my destiny in Christ.
