Morning by Morning, December 28 - The Gift of My Surrendered Treasure Good morning, Lord Jesus. I yield my will to Your will, my thoughts to Your thoughts, my desires to Your desires -- as best as I can and all by Your grace -- to begin my day centered and grounded in You. ... “When (the wise men) heard the king, they departed; and behold, the star which they had seen in the East went before them, till it came and stood over where the young Child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy. And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh” (Matthew 2:9-11). The wise men “rejoiced with exceedingly great joy” to find You, and worship You, and offer their gifts to You. “In Your Presence is fullness of joy!” (Psalm 16:11) And in Your Presence, they offered You presents -- their gifts to You of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. As I ponder this morning some of the possible symbolic, prophetic meanings of their gifts, this comes to mind: Gold speaks of a heart of gold. And gold speaks of the glory of God. The glory of God is the manifest Presence of God. They offered to You their hearts, open to You to be filled with the manifest Presence of God. Their act of giving was perhaps prophetically declaring for all who seek You and offer themselves to You the truth of these spiritual principles: If we seek You with all our heart, we will find You (Jeremiah 29:13). If we seek to abide in You, You will abide in us (John 15:5). Our hearts to be Your home and our bodies are to be Your temple (1 Corinthians 6:19). The glory of God is revealed to us through Jesus Christ. “For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ” (2 Corinthians 4:6). Behold, You stand at the door of our hearts knocking, and if any will open up and welcome You in, You will come and commune with us (Revelation 3:20). Frankincense speaks of offering up our lives to You as a pleasing aroma (2 Corinthians 2:15) and a fragrant offering (Philippians 4:18). We “offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ” (1 Peter 2:5). We “present (our) bodies (as) a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God” being “transformed by the renewing of (our) mind” (Romans 12:1-2). And with our lives, we offer up our prayers, just as “the prayers of the saints” are mingled with “the smoke of the incense” rising up to You from the altar of Heaven (Revelation 8:4). Myrrh speaks of dying to ourselves that we may live in You and allow You to live through us. Myrrh was a burial spice (John 19:39). This gift honored the One who was born to die, Your life for ours in the beautiful exchange when You would become sin for us that our sins would be forgiven in You (2 Corinthians 5:21). You laid down Your life for us so that we could live our lives in You (Colossians 3:3). As one with You, we are to be “crucified with Christ” declaring by the offering of the gift of our laid-down lives that “It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me” (Galatians 2:20). So as best as I can and all by Your grace, I lay down before You and offer up to You my heart, my sacrifice, and my life. May I treasure nothing more in my life than I treasure You. You are my Treasure. You are the Gift of God. “The gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23; John 3:16). May I hold back no good gift from You, for You have held back nothing from me. “He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?” (Romans 8:32) And in response, how shall I not freely give You all things -- all that I have and all that I am -- fully entrusted as the gift of my surrendered treasure to You. In Jesus’ name pray. Amen.
Be encouraged today! In the love of Jesus, Tommy Hays Friends, may you freely offer the gift of your surrendered treasure to the One who surrendered the treasure of His Life for you, in Jesus' name. Merry Christmas! God bless you!
