Morning by Morning, November 9 - Letting Go and Taking Hold Good morning, Lord Jesus. King of Kings and Lord of Lords, be King of my heart and Lord of my life this day and every day. ... “Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:12-14). By the power of Your grace, I let go of what lies behind; and I take hold of what lies ahead. I don’t ignore what lies behind. I don’t pretend what lies behind didn’t happen. And I don’t let what lies behind control me, identify me, or limit me. I entrust all that lies behind to You--at the foot of the cross and under the blood of Jesus. And as I let go, then I can take hold. I take hold of all You have for me today and every day to come. I take hold of my identity in You as a child of God and disciple of Christ. I take hold of my destiny in the plans You have for me, for my good and not for my harm, a future filled with hope in the good things of God. I take hold of Your hand, as You lead me by my heart, as a child of God led by the Spirit of God, filled with faith to trust You and Your ways on my spiritual journey. I’ve not already attained my destination. And my destination is not so much a place as a personification of the character of Christ You are forming in me. For Your will is to conform me into the image of the Son of God (Romans 8:29). As You are, so am I to be (1 John 4:17). Day by day, Morning by Morning, step by step, choice by choice, layer upon layer, precept upon percept, face to face, You making me more like You as I keep my eyes on You (2 Corinthians 3:18). This is my goal. This is my prize--“the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” I know You’ll keep giving me the grace to keep letting go and taking hold, as I keep pressing on and reaching forward to all You have for me each day on my journey of becoming more like You. I can’t do it, but You can. And I believe You will (1 Thessalonians 5:23-24). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
