Morning by Morning, May 29 - Ax of the Word of God Thrust Deep by the Spirit of God to Every Root that Bears Bad Fruit   Good morning, Lord Jesus. Fill me with Your Spirit as You ground me in Your Word and lead me in Your will for my life today--Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God. ...   “Even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Every tree therefore that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. ‘I baptize you with water for repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing fork is in His hand, and He will clear His threshing floor and gather His wheat into the barn, but the chaff He will burn with unquenchable fire’” (Matthew 3:10-12).   You’ve put a passion in me to be baptized with Your Holy Spirit and Your Holy Fire. Not just a one-time prayer of repentance from my sins, but a life-time prayer of surrender to Your will. Give me the grace to keep willing to embrace Your Spirit and Your Fire in my life to keep burning out the chaff of all that is flesh and fanning into flame all that is spirit and life and truth to be gathered as wheat in Your harvest of righteousness and holiness of heart and life. “For it is God who works in (me) to will and to do for (Your) good pleasure” (Philippians 2:13).   Keep putting the ax of Your Word thrust deep by Your Spirit to the root of everything in me that bears bad fruit. Reveal it. Remove it. Replace it.   Let me be rooted and grounded in You and Your love and Your Word, filled with Your Spirit, bearing the good fruit of Your Holy Spirit--Your “love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control” (Galatians 5:22).   “According to the riches of (Your) glory, (may I) be strengthened with might through (Your) Spirit in (my) inner man, that Christ may dwell in (my) heart through faith; that (I), being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height--to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that (I) may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen” (Ephesians 3:16-21). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today. “Fan into Flame the Gift of God!” - May 22, 2024

 

Morning by Morning, May 22 - “Fan into Flame the Gift of God!”   Good morning, Lord Jesus. Help me begin this day embraced by my Father, centered in Christ, and filled with the Holy Spirit. ...   “I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well. For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and (a sound mind)” (2 Timothy 1:5-7).   Thank You for the gifts of God You’ve given us. They are not for us but for those You would touch through us. Some gifts have been passed down to us through the generations. Some have been imparted to us through the laying on of hands. Some come through the persistence of prayer, as You put Your desires in our hearts to pray for Your Spirit and Your spiritual gifts we need to fulfill our calling and destiny as You will. “All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as He wills” (1 Corinthians 12:11).   Come, Holy Spirit. “Fan into flame the gift of God” You’ve put within me and in every one of Your children of God and disciples of Christ. Set us free from sluggishness and fear, timidity and hesitation, reluctance and resistance. In those ways, we hinder Your will and all You would do through us in our world. Awaken us to be all You’ve created us and called us to be (Ephesians 5:14). Fill us up and flow through us with the power and love of Your Spirit! (Ephesians 5:18)   Together, we are “the body of Christ” in our world “and individually members of it” (1 Corinthians 12:27). We are Your “ambassadors for Christ” with “God making His appeal through us” (2 Corinthians 5:20). So let us be empowered with Your love, sound in our minds, compassionate in our hearts to be expressions of Your heart, Your truth, Your power, Your love, Your light, Your glory in our world. “Christ in (us), the hope of glory” (Colossians 1:27).   With Your Spirit, expressing Your character through our lives, revealing Your nature through Your body of Christ in our world, our lives will bear much fruit and Your kingdom will be extended into many heart throughout the nations of the earth (Galatians 5:22-23). As You “fan into flame” the gifts of God within us, as You forge by the Flame of Your Holy Spirit Your character and nature in us, “This Gospel of the Kingdom will be proclaimed through the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come” (Matthew 24:14). This is part of the fulfillment of Your prophetic Promise: “For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea!” (Habakkuk 2:14) In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today. “Times of Refreshing” from “The Presence of the Lord” - May 21, 2024

 

Morning by Morning, May 21 - “Times of Refreshing” from “The Presence of the Lord”   Good morning, Lord Jesus. As I draw near to You, I know You draw near to me--Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God (James 4:8). ...   “Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out, that times of refreshing may come from the Presence of the Lord, and that He may send the Christ appointed for you, Jesus, whom heaven must receive until the time for restoring all things about which God spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets long ago” (Acts 3:19-21).   Last night I had the honor of answering a cry for help from a family to come pray for the cleansing and freedom of their home from dramatic occurrences of spiritual oppression they’ve been suffering. You responded with such powerful sings of supernatural breezes throughout their home and property that I was moved to keep declaring “Times of refreshing! Times of refreshing!” thinking of this Scripture from the days of Pentecost.   Thank You for this day of personal Pentecost of this family and their home! Thank You for this mighty move of Your Holy Spirit as “a mighty rushing wind” of Your Spirit “filled the entire house!” (Acts 2:2). It was like swirls of cool and refreshing air in spiritual whirlwinds throughout their home, after our time of repentance for the sins upon the land and prayer for freedom from oppression we prayed from the court of heaven (Daniel 7:12). As when You led Elisha to cleanse the spring of water with salt, so You cleansed this home with Your Holy Spirit (2 Kings 2:19-22).   Thank You for the power of the blood of Jesus! “And (we), who were dead in (our) trespasses and the uncircumcision of (our) flesh, God made alive together with Him, having forgiven us all of trespasses, by cancelling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This He set aside, nailing it to the cross. He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in it” (Colossians 2:13-15).   Through repentance and prayer we can embrace and enjoy Your “times of refreshing” in “the Presence of the Lord!” We can “rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory!” (1 Peter 1:8) For “in Your Presence there is fullness of joy!” (Psalm 16:11) In Jesus’ name I pray. God is Faithful to Watch Over and Perform His Word - May 20, 2024

 

Morning by Morning, May 20 - God is Faithful to Watch Over and Perform His Word   Good morning, Lord Jesus. King of Kings and Lord of Lords, I embrace Your kingdom and yield to Your lordship to begin my day wholly surrendered and trusting You (Revelation 19:16). ...   “Then the Lord said to me, ‘You have seen well, for I am watching over My word to perform it” (Jeremiah 1:12).   Lord, open the eyes of my heart to see all You would show me that I may see well--“having the eyes of (my) heart enlightened, that (I) may know what is the hope to which (You) have called (me) ... and what is the immeasurable greatness of (Your) power toward us who believe” (Ephesians 1:18-19). Let me see what You’re doing and hear what You’re saying, that I can embrace Your will and follow Your leading--step by step, every moment at a time (John 5:19).   Keep putting Your words in my heart, Your thoughts in my mind, Your desires in my heart. Keep giving me faith to know that You will be faithful to perform ever word of God You’re watching over in my life. Your word will never “return to (You) empty, but it shall accomplish that which (You) purpose; and shall succeed in the thing for which (You) sent it” (Isaiah 55:11).   Every word of Yours is “spirit and life” to me (John 6:63). Every word of Yours is good to me, encouraging to me, guiding and leading me, correcting and shaping me, developing and maturing me, making me more like You each day (Romans 8:29; 1 John 4:17). “Your word is a lamp to my feet and light to my path” (Psalm 119:105).   So by the power of the grace of God, I choose to hear and embrace every word You speak into my spirit and bring up to my mind, every word You awaken to me from Your Scriptures and confirm to me by Your Holy Spirit. You will be faithful to perform it and empower me to be faithful to live it. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today. “Hope is a Glimpse of the Other Side” - May 17, 2024

 

Morning by Morning, May 17 - “Hope is a Glimpse of the Other Side”   Good morning, Lord Jesus. I am in You and You are in me (John 15:4). ...   “To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory” (Colossians 1:27).   As phrased by the New Living Version, “The secret is this: Christ in you brings hope of all the great things to come.”   As I abide in You and You abide in me, You fill me with hope, You encourage me with expectation, You awaken me with anticipation “of all the great things to come.”   Sometimes it’s hard to hope because it’s hard to see when we’re in the midst of a battle, when we’re in the middle of an onslaught of the challenges of the moment. But that’s what forms our faith and deepens our trust, as we embrace Your Presence and humbly express our desperate need of Your mercy and grace, Your provision and power, Your wisdom and guidance, to get us through to the other side.   What comes to me right now is this: “Hope is a glimpse of the other side.” ...   With the eyes of hope, we can see a glimpse of the other side. With the eyes of hope, we can see we’re going to get through this, we’re going to overcome this, that no matter what, You’re going to turn it all around and use it all for good. And while we wait for the peace and the good fruit and the victory to come--including the fashioning of more of our character into Your character, into the image of Christ by the Holy Spirit of the Living Christ, living and working in us through it all, we learn to love and learn to trust. We embrace the never-changing truth that You are with us, working within us, “Christ in (us), the hope of glory.” “Christ in (us),” the “hope of all the great things to come.”   “Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us” (Romans 5:5).   “Now may the God of hope fill (us) with all joy and peace in believing, that (we) may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit” (Romans 15:13).   Thank You for the gift of hope, for the power of hope. Thank You for the glimpse of the other side. Thank You for the glimpse of all the great things to come. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today.
