Morning by Morning, March 27, 2026 — Jesus Was Determined to Fulfill His Destiny
Good morning, Lord Jesus. Put Your thoughts in my mind and Your desires in my heart, as I seek to intentionally, deliberately begin my day in communion with You—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God. ...
Next week will be Holy Week, when Christians around the world will remember the days of Your journey to the Cross. Your journey to Your physical death is now our journey to everlasting life (John 3:16). And this morning, I’m reminded of Your determination to fulfill Your destiny:
“Now it came to pass, when the time had come for Him to be received up, that He steadfastly set His face to go to Jerusalem” (Luke 9:51).
You were fulfilling one of the many Messianic prophecies declared beforehand of all You would live out on the days of Your journey through Your rejection, betrayal, beating, crucifixion, death, burial, and resurrection:
“I gave My back to those who struck Me, And My cheeks to those who plucked out the beard; I did not hide My face from shame and spitting. For the Lord God will help Me; Therefore I will not be disgraced; Therefore I have set My face like a flint, And I know that I will not be ashamed” (Isaiah 50:6-7).
No one took Your life. You willingly chose to lay down Your life—for me and for all who entrust themselves to You in thanksgiving for all You’ve done for us. As You declared in Your determination to do this for us, with Your face set like flint, steadfast in Your desire to journey to Jerusalem, knowing all that waited for You there:
“As the Father knows Me, even so I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep....
“Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again. No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from My Father” (John 10:15-18).
Thank You, Lord Jesus, for Your steadfast love, for Your determination, for Your sacrifice that cost You more than we can even imagine. As I prepare my heart to follow Your journey through that Holy Week, may I take time to contemplate and appreciate all You’ve done and all You are:
“Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12:2). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
