“Shouts of Joy!” 8-19-10

Good morning, Lord Jesus. You can move a mountain. And You can move the hearts of men and women who entrust their hearts to You. I entrust my heart to You today to move as You will. … “When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dream. Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy; then it was said among the nations, ‘The Lord has done great things for them!’ The Lord has done great things for us, and we rejoiced!” (Psalm 126:1-3). When we press through the hard places, it feels so good when we finally break through. When the shackles of the oppressing spirits that tried to hold us back and trip us up are finally broken loose, we can run again so freely the race that is set before us. And when the heavy weights that tried to crush our spirits and steal our joy are finally lifted off and cast into the sea, our spirits rise and soar again in the heights of the heavenly places where we are meant to live, far above everything that would try to press us down (Ephesians 2:6). With shouts of joy, there is victory in the hearts of those who persevere in faith, hold on to hope, and endure through the dark nights and dry seasons, as Your mighty right hand is lifted high (Psalm 118:15). Mighty is our God, faithful and true. Your steadfast love endures forever. Your hand is always stretched out—fighting for us in ways we can’t always see, drawing us nearer to You in ways we can’t always feel. But when we awaken to morning’s light and rest again in the peace that still fills our soul from the victories and breakthroughs of our God in the challenges we faced, we shout for joy! And the oil of gladness anoints our heads and hearts again to laugh again in the Spirit of joy, singing Your praises again in the joy of the Lord. Sorrow and sadness has fled away; Your streams of living water have burst forth again in the wilderness and desert places (Isaiah 35). What was sown in tears is now reaped in joy (Psalm 126:5). And what was dark and heavy is now light and free (2 Corinthians 4:6). With shouts of joy, let everyone around us know—from our neighbors to the nations—“The Lord has done great things for us!” In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen. Be encouraged today! Counsel and Conscience 8-18-10

Good morning, Lord Jesus. With my spirit, soul, and body, I welcome You Father, Son, and Holy Spirit into every area of my life and every moment of my day. … “ ‘All things are lawful,’ but not all things are beneficial. ‘All things are lawful,’ but not all things build up. Do not seek your own advantage but that of the other…. For why should my liberty be subject to the judgment of someone else’s conscience?…. So whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:23-31). To You, all hearts are open and all thoughts are known. You know every thought and intention before we ever speak or act. And as we open our hearts to You, You are changing our hearts and renewing our minds to be more like You each day. With our lives entrusted to Your guidance, correction, and care, we are not like we were, nor are we yet fully like what we will be (1 John 3:2). We’re a work in progress, a life in process, being conformed to image of the Son of God through all the experiences and encounters of our lives. And each choice we make, through the grace You give in the freedom we have, determines the depth and length of our personal transformation. Every choice of every moment of every day becomes our opportunity to grow in spiritual maturity, to grow in the image of Christ—or not. “(Willing choose to) present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. (Willing choose to) not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God, what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God” (Romans 12:1-2). And we are all at different places on that journey with You. Even among all who have Your Holy Spirit living within us, at work within us, to make us more like You each day, we are each a different place of transformation, of sanctification in spirit, soul, and body (1 Thessalonians 5:23). It’s not our place to judge one another, but to judge ourselves. It’s not our place to compare ourselves with one another, but to compare ourselves with You—which always keeps us humble and hungry for more of You and less of us, more of Your holy nature and less of our worldly nature. You’ve given us great liberty, great freedom through the blood of Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit. For whom the Son sets free is free indeed (John 8:36). And “where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom” (2 Corinthians 3:17). And with that liberty, You are redeeming our consciences, redeeming our sensitivity to the conviction and leading of Your Spirit. For the children of God are led by the Spirit of God (Romans 8:14). But we must not be enslaved to consciences of others. We must be subject the conscience of ourselves. We must be willing to hear the wisdom and godly counsel of those we trust, but we must also have the courage to choose for ourselves what we believe is right by the leading of the Spirit of the Lord, grounded in the authority of the Word of the Lord. “To thine own self be true” to the degree that we have submitted ourselves to the will of God as best as we can and all by Your grace. So help me grow in my humility to hear others and my sensitivity to hear You. Help me be courageous to seek and listen, and then faithful to trust and obey what I believe You are saying and how I sense You are leading. Because at the end of the day, it will only be me who will stand before You to give an account of my faithfulness to my conscience You’ve been conforming to Your image (Romans 14:12). So help me God, to do everything for the glory of God, living true to the place I am on my journey with You, as best as I can and all by Your grace. And help me give that grace to others. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen. Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays Come to The Fountain! “God of Hope” 8-17-10

Good morning, Lord Jesus. I look up and listen in as I begin these first moments of my morning with You. … “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit” (Romans 15:13). You are the God of hope. You are the God who fills me with all joy and peace, as I believe You and entrust myself and all the challenges of my current circumstances to You. That can’t come in my own power, but only by the power of Your Holy Spirit. That can’t come by the power of positive thinking, by the effort to muster up enough faith to believe You and Your Word. It comes by saying in my heart, “Come, Holy Spirit. You are the God of hope. Come let Your hope abound in me. Come fill me with all joy and peace in believing You’re here with me, here with full awareness of all the circumstances around me, and here with the power to change me and change them, as I put my hope and trust in You. That’s not foolishness, that’s faith—faith to believe that “all things are possible to him who believes” (Mark 9:23, NKJV). That’s faith to believe that my future is not determined by my past, that my identity in the eyes of this world is not my destiny in heart of my God. That’s faith to believe that breakthrough, transformation, and revival are not just nice thoughts or fairy tales; they are the expected end of those who dare to hope for them, in faith believing. That’s the hope that I have by the power of the grace of the God of hope living in me. And that fills me now with Your joy and peace. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen. Be encouraged today! “Prisoners of Hope” 8-16-10

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Help me start well, so I can do well and end well today, by Your grace. … “As for you also, because of the blood of My covenant with you, I will set your prisoners free from the waterless pit. Return to your stronghold, O prisoners of hope; today I declare that I will restore to you double” (Zechariah 9:11-12). Hope is a stronghold, a high tower, a mighty fortress against the attacks of discouragement, doubt, and fear. It’s the measure of the good things I’m expecting to come forth that I do not yet see with my eyes but anticipate deep within my heart. And the measure of my hope is related to the measure of my faith. Hope is like the field where I sow my seeds of faith and position myself for the harvest I expect to receive. “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1). So it seems my faith can only reach to the extent of my hope. My faith is the assurance and conviction that what I am hoping for will come to pass, so my hope sets the boundaries for what my faith can receive. In that way, I’m a “prisoner of hope”—my hope determines the limits of my faith. And if those limits are right, if those boundary lines are set in good places in response to the leading of Your Spirit and in accordance with the truth of Your Word, there is safety and security in the stronghold of my hope. And somehow, in the mathematics of Your Kingdom, I’ll even receive a double portion of what You’ve placed in my heart to hope. Lord, I have much to learn about hope and faith. I know “faith, hope, and love abide, these three” (1 Corinthians 13:13). But I’m realizing today how much more I need to know about the definitions and dynamics of these Kingdom principles if I am to be all You created me to be and to do all You created me to do. You’ve created me to love You and love others, but that love is somehow activated in the context of faith and hope—“Love … believes all things, hopes all things …” (1 Corinthians 13:4-7). And it will be done for me “according to (my) faith” (Matthew 8:13 and 9:29). So don’t let my love be limited by my faith, and don’t let my faith be limited by my hope. Teach me how to hope well. Help me to hope for the things that are in Your heart—a prisoner of hope bound by nothing but Your will, secured in the stronghold of Your Word by the leading of Your Spirit. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen. Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays Subscribe for free by email to me at Messiah Ministries: MessiahMin@aol.com -- "Preparing the Way of the Lord ... Restoring our Relationships 8-13-10

Good morning, Lord Jesus. You are the Word made flesh. Let Your Word be made flesh in me by Your Spirit today. … “Now Jacob looked up and saw Esau coming…. But Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck and kissed him, and they wept…. Jacob said, ‘… truly to see your face is like seeing the face of God—since you have received me with such favor…. God has dealt graciously with me…’ ” (Genesis 33:1-11). From the beginning of their lives as twins in their mother’s womb, Jacob and Esau wrestled with one another, striving to find their place of gifting and blessing (v. 25:22). Both had great purpose and destiny within their hearts and within Yours. Yet, like each of us, each of them had some things in the flesh of their souls that had to be exposed, uprooted, and put to death so that they might live together in peace, respect, and love. Jacob could be pushy, controlling, and even deceptive, trying to manipulate the situations to secure his place of security, inheritance, and blessing (v. 25:33 and 27:19). Esau could be bitter, resentful, hard-hearted, rebellious and judgmental in response to what Jacob did and was trying to do to him (v. 27:41 and 28:8). The enemy of their souls sought to stir in their flesh to poison their minds and harden their hearts against one another, to steal their inheritance and disqualify them from them destiny. But You had other plans, to restore their relationship, “for the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable” (Romans 11:29). And so many times, those gifts and callings can only be realized in the relationships You fashion and form for Your purposes. So just as the enemy was stirring in their flesh, You were stirring in their hearts, reminding them of Your plans and purposes and of their identities and destinies (Genesis 28:13-15 and 31:3). You moved in their hearts to humble themselves and be reconciled and restored to one another (v. 32:3-6). Even then, they were leery of one another, questioning each other’s motives, remembering the pain of their past, and questioning the likelihood of real change and true transformation (v. 32:7). But Your grace was sufficient and Your will for their healing and restoration was strong. “For mortals, it is impossible, but not for God; for God all things are possible” (Mark 10:27). So as they each obeyed Your call to come together again, their fears were turned to faith, and their resentment was turned to love, as their hearts were restored to You and one another in a way that was stronger than ever before. You caused even their division and strife to work together for good, using every opportunity to crucify their flesh and awaken their spirits to become the ones You created them to be. And You long to do the same in each one of us. Lord, help me be humble, faithful, and willing to let You do this in me and in the hearts of all around me. In Jesus’ I pray, Amen. Be encouraged today! Choose Well 8-12-10

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Be Thou, my vision, O Lord of my heart. … Choose well … When the path of life before you divides to each horizon, choose well. Choose well … When all that is within you wants all that’s safe and easy, choose well. Choose well … When the One that you have followed says choose the path that’s narrow, choose well. Choose well … When all looks bright and happy but something seems unsettled, choose well. Choose well … When you can’t see all to come but you sense His peace and strength, choose well. Choose well … All we must do Is keep looking to You Listening for Your leading Not trusting in our feelings Just waiting on the One Always calling us to come And trust in the way You choose … Yes, Lord. Thank You for putting my thoughts to these words and my prayer to this song Your Spirit is singing through my spirit this morning. You know every choice set before me, what lies beyond the horizon of each path. You see the end from the beginning and the beginning from the end. You know what’s best; You know what’s right; You know what leads to the abundance of life for all involved, now and in the generations to come. “See I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse: the blessing, if you obey the commandments of the Lord your God that I am commanding you today; and the curse, if you do not obey the commandments of the Lord your God, but turn from the way that I am commanding you today, to follow other gods that you have not known…. When you cross the Jordan to go in to occupy the land that the Lord your God is giving you, and when you occupy it and live in it, you must diligently observe all the statutes and ordinances that I am setting before you today” (Deuteronomy 11:26-32). Now in the fullness of my new covenant in Christ, You’ve written Your law in my heart by Your Spirit (Ezekiel 36:26-27; Romans 2:29). You call me to diligently seek You and the leading of Your Holy Spirit in every matter of every moment, that I may enter into the fullness of my inheritance and destiny in You—not only for me, but also for all You’ve entrusted to me and for all the generations that will follow after me. So by the grace You give and the fullness of the freedom You allow, I choose to wait and watch and listen for Your leading in every matter of every moment. And when I sense what’s right by the law of Your Spirit in my heart, I want to courageously, obediently cross over and advance to possess the promises of the hope and calling You’ve placed in me. As best as I can and all by Your grace, I choose to choose well. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen. Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays Friends, please keep Messiah Ministries in mind as you seek good soil in which to sow your seeds for renewal and revival in our land and your life. Divine Strategies and Divine Unity 8-11-10

Good morning, Lord Jesus. I am Yours and You are mine. You are the Commander of the Army of the Lord, and I willing align my heart and mind with Your command this day in the power of Your grace. … “When Joab saw that the line of battle was set against him both in the front and in the rear, he chose some of the picked men of Israel and arrayed them against the Arameans; the rest of his troops he put in the charge of his brother Abishai, and they were arrayed against the Ammonites. He said, ‘If the Arameans are too strong for me, then you shall help me; but if the Ammonites are too strong for you, then I will help you. Be strong, and let us be courageous for our people and for the cities of our God; and may the Lord do what seems good to Him.’ So Joab and the troops who were with him advanced toward the Arameans for battle; and they fled before him. When the Ammonites saw that the Arameans fled, they likewise fled before Abishai, Joab’s brother…” (1 Chronicles 19:10-15). Lord, give us eyes to see the battle lines set against us and those You’ve entrusted to our care, with responsibility and authority. Let the cities of our God where You’ve called us to live out our faith as salt and light not fall into enemy hands. Give us Your divine strategies that will send the fear of the Lord into the hearts of our spiritual enemies arrayed against us to steal and kill and destroy. Give us divine unity to stand with our brothers and sisters in the faith, to cover one another’s backs, to acknowledge our own vulnerabilities and to cover theirs with wisdom, mercy, and grace. Let our strengths cover their weaknesses and their strengths cover ours. Then let us be strong and courageous in the knowledge and faith of the power of Your grace that is sufficient for each one of us. Then Your power is made perfect even in our weaknesses. As we position ourselves for battle with the strategies and unity You provide, we position ourselves for the victory You’ve already won. You will do what seems good to You, for You are a good God, mighty in battle and mighty to save. And what’s good for us is bad for our enemies. As you arise, our enemies will be scattered. As Your name is exalted, their names will be forgotten. As Your Word goes forth, their words shall fall to ground to shrivel and die as the idle threats that they are in the face of the advance of your Kingdom. “No weapon formed against (us) shall prosper, and every tongue that rises against (us) in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and (our) righteousness is from (You), says the Lord” (Isaiah 54:17). Our enemies and their vain threats shall flee before us, as Your river of life flows forth from us in the cities of our God (Psalm 46:4-6). In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen. Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays Friends, our city of Lexington, Kentucky will be the host site of the 2010 World Equestrian Games at the Kentucky Horse Park this fall. “Rescued from the Lion’s Mouth” 8-10-10

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Right where I am is right where You meet me—every morning, every moment. You’re always ready to continue the journey in our communion of prayer. … “But the Lord stood by me and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. So I was rescued from the lion’s mouth. The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and save me for His heavenly kingdom. To Him be the glory forever and ever” (2 Timothy 4:17-18). The kingdom of darkness is never happy about the advancement of the kingdom of light. And in these days of steady acceleration and constant advance, the intensity of the spiritual battle increases around us whether we see it or not. The enemy of our souls, who hates the message of freedom, healing, and hope You’ve entrusted to us to proclaim with our lives, comes like a roaring lion, looking for his opportunities in our vulnerabilities to stalk and devour his prey (1 Peter 5:8). But we have nothing to fear, for the Lord our God is always with us, standing by us, forever giving us strength and courage to stand firm in our faith, to “resist the devil, and (know) he will flee from (us)” (James 4:7). Though “every evil attack” of our adversary may be blatantly fierce or subtly deceptive, his schemes will be exposed and his strategies will be defeated, as we keep looking to You and keep standing firm in our faith. We defeat his strategy of deception by proclaiming the truth. We defeat his strategy of division by keeping our hearts clear with one another. We defeat his strategy of fear by trusting in the perfect love of God that always casts out all fear, restoring us with Your power, Your love, and Your sound mind. We are never alone, for You are always with us. You even surround with angelic hosts, warring in the heavenly realm on our behalf, reminding us that “there are more with us than there are with them,” if we’d only open the eyes of our heart to see the truth through the eyes of Your Word (2 Kings 6:16). So let us never fear the battle or be surprised that it comes. It’s only evidence that Your kingdom is advancing within us and through us. And let us never doubt that the victory is won, though the battles are real, the encounters are fierce, and the stakes are high. “For the One who is in (us) is greater than the one who is in the world” (1 John 4:4). Then even his attacks, become our opportunities to advance, as we call on Your name and stand firm by faith in Your truth. You shut the mouth of the lion when we fill our mouths with Your words of truth and fill our hearts with Your nature of love. And then all that he tries to take from us for living our lives for Your sake, we will “receive a hundredfold now in this age … and in the age to come, eternal life” (Mark 10:29-30). That’s one of the ways You fulfill Your Word that “the God of peace will shortly crush Satan under (our) feet” (Romans 16:20). What a mighty God we serve—mighty to save and mighty to love, through every battle we face. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen. Be encouraged today! Refuge from the Storms 8-9-10

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Be high and lifted up—in my thoughts and heart, in my actions and words, throughout the moments of my day. … “Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me, for in You my soul takes refuge; in the shadow of Your wings I will take refuge, until the destroying storms pass by. I cry to God Most High, to God who fulfills His purpose for me. He will send from heaven and save me, He will put to shame those who trample on me. God will send forth His steadfast love and His faithfulness” (Psalm 57:1-3). Hand in hand, heart to heart, I joined with the friends, supporters, and ministry team of the Refuge for Women in a big circle around the old farmhouse now beautifully restored and dedicated yesterday to be a place of refuge and healing for women coming out of the adult entertainment industry to start a new life in Christ. One of my prayer partners, Ked Frank and his wife, are pouring their lives into this ministry of compassion and mercy, along with other ministries like Bruised Reed, to rescue women and their children often belittled, judged, rejected, and forgotten. But You died for them too. And Your arms of refuge are open wide for each one of them. There’s no sin You will not forgive, no wound You will not heal, and no bondage You will not break if we will entrust these things and our lives to You and Your care (Isaiah 61:1-3). Lord, open my eyes to see those in need of the power of Your mercy and love around me. Don’t let me merely see people as they are—trapped in their sin, bound by their past, stuck in lifestyles of self-destruction—but also let me see them as whom they were created to be, whom they still can be, if they let the power of Your mercy and love into their hearts to change their lives. Let me not see them and judge them or ignore them in my self-righteousness, but see them and share with them the grace You’ve lavished on me despite all my unrighteousness. That’s the power of the cross and the heart of the message of Your Good News. That’s the place of our refuge from the destroying storms of this broken, fallen world. “For, ‘Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.’ But how are they to call on One in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in One of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone to proclaim Him? And how are they to proclaim Him unless they are sent? As it is written, ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who bring Good News” (Romans 10:13-15). In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen. Be encouraged today! Unshakeable, Unstoppable Kingdom 8-6-10

Good morning, Lord Jesus. You are mighty to save, full of victory, hope, and life. And I welcome You into my thoughts and desires in all the experiences and encounters of my life today. … “Therefore, since we are receiving a Kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us give thanks, by which we offer to God an acceptable worship with reverence and awe” (Hebrews 12:28). You are the King of the Kingdom of God. You are the “King of kings and Lord of lords” (Revelation 19:16). “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to (You)” (Matthew 28:18). Yet Your Kingdom is not merely far off in heaven somewhere. It’s not restricted in time to some number of years in the distant past of history. Nor is it restricted in space to some geographical region of some distant land of the earth we can never seem to reach because you just can’t seem to get there from here. “(Your) Kingdom is not from this world,” that it might be shaken by earthquakes, starved by famines, conquered by armies, ruled by governments, or defined by the false religions of men (John 18:36). Yours is an unshakeable, unstoppable Kingdom, established in Your will and advancing at Your command. And yet, in the sovereignty of God and the freedom of will that a true relationship of love requires, Your Kingdom comes on earth as it is in heaven in response to the prayers of Your people, prayed in the tension of both trusting humility and bold faith (Matthew 6:10). Your Kingdom comes as we willing trust You and embrace You, yielding to Your will and Your ways in our lives, “for the Kingdom of God is within (us)” (Luke 17:21). Your Kingdom comes every day we die to our self-will and embrace Your will, every day we cast down our crowns of our kingdoms and bow our knees before the King of kings and Lord of lords, crowning You alone as King of all. “You (alone) are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for You created all things, and by Your will they existed and were created” (Revelation 4:11). As we humble ourselves before You as King, You empty us of the spirit of this world and fill us with the Spirit of the King. “For the Kingdom of God is … righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit” (Romans 14:17). That’s a Kingdom that the kings and kingdoms of this world cannot forever withstand. And one day soon we will hear the last trumpet and all the voices of heaven proclaim, “The kingdom of the world has become the Kingdom of our Lord and of His Messiah, and He will reign forever and ever!” (Revelation 11:15) King Jesus, come rule and reign in my heart and soul. Establish and advance Your unshakeable, unstoppable Kingdom in me, more and more every day. Empty me of the spirit of this world and fill me with the Spirit of the King. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen. Wisdom and Honor through Humility

Good morning, Lord Jesus. King of Glory, I open my gates and welcome You in to my heart and my day. … “The ear that heeds wholesome admonition will lodge among the wise. Those who ignore instruction despise themselves, but those who heed admonition gain understanding. The fear of the Lord is instruction in wisdom, and humility goes before honor” (Proverbs 15:31-33). You honor those who humble themselves to hear Your words of correction in love and truth. You love to redeem our mistakes to make us healthier and wiser than before. You love to heal the bones that You have crushed to make us stronger than before. You love to shake everything that can be shaken so that only what can’t be shaken remains. To fully live in You, we must fully die to ourselves. To be honored by You, we must be willing to be humbled by You. It’s how You make us more like You each day in the spiritual journey of our lives (Hebrews 12:25-29). If we keep looking to You, trusting in You, the breakthrough is always worth the breaking; and the gold that’s refined is always worth the fire that refines. It’s never pleasant and often painful at the time, but it’s the way You hone our lives to be a useful instrument and mighty weopon in Your hands and to become the sons and daughters of God in whom You are well pleased. As in all things, Your life is our model: “In the days of His flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to the One who was able to save Him from death, and He learned obedience through what He suffered; and having been made perfect, He became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey Him, having been designated by God a high priest according to the order of Melchizedek” (Hebrews 5:7-9). Someone has said that knowledge comes from books, but wisdom comes from experience. Thank You for the experiences—both those full of joy and those full of pain—that makes us wise in Your ways, that allow us to become whom You created us to be. In the times of Your wholesome admonition, speaking the truth to us in love, it may seem like we’re being purged in a fire and facing the very fear of the Lord. But You’re always so faithful to go with us through the fire and to celebrate with us the joy of the Lord when we makes it through—always so much purer, freer, and wiser than before. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen. Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays Subscribe for free by email to me at Messiah Ministries: MessiahMin@aol.com -- "Preparing the Way of the Lord ... Godly Correction from the Father’s Heart 8-4-10

Good morning, Lord Jesus. I want to have Your heart in all I do and don’t do, in all I am and am not, throughout the moments of my day. … “And you have forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as children—‘My child, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, or lose heart when you are punished by Him; for the Lord disciplines those whom He loves, and chastises every child whom He accepts’…. Now discipline always seems painful rather than pleasant at the time, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. Therefore lift your drooping ands and strengthen your weak knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be put out joint, but rather be healed. Pursue peace with everyone, and the holiness without which no one will see the Lord. See to it that no one fails to obtain the grace of God; that no root of bitterness springs up and through it many become defiled…. Let mutual love continue…. Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls and will give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with sighing—for that would be harmful to you…. Pray for us; we are sure that we have a clear conscience, desiring to act honorably in all things” (Hebrews 12:5 through 13:18). I do desire to act honorably in all things, to pursue peace with everyone, to let mutual love continue. I desire to have a clear conscience that I’m doing my best, all by Your grace, to honor You in the ways I follow You and lead others. Part of the call to spiritual leadership is to have Your Father heart in carefully confronting and correcting those entrusted to our care and aligned with our call, just as we must be ready to humbly receive that ourselves. It’s all part of loving, learning, and leading as we grow into maturity. Lord, help me learn to do this better, help me learn to do this well. Give me courage to make tough choices, gentleness when I have to say hard things, and humility when I need to hear them myself. Let me not be afraid to confront the bitter roots that defile many, nor to reset the bones that are out of joint that would make our body lame in our pursuit of holiness and peace for sake of others and ourselves. Help me speak the truth in love and hear the truth in love, respecting those entrusted to my leadership and receiving the respect You expect from them. Though so often painful at the time that troubles are addressed and roots are exposed, in its time the obedience we have to follow Your ways will yield the peaceful fruit of righteousness that can’t come forth any other way. So let mutual love continue, even the tough love that sometimes comes from the Father’s heart. Let all who know us and care anything about us pray for us all to have this heart and mind of Christ, that we would not have to continue to be broken or bound, but rather be healed and free to be all You’ve created us and called us to be. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen. Be encouraged today! Truly Known 8-3-10 – Truly Known

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Align my life with Your will, O Lord my God— Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. … “O Lord, You have searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I rise up; You discern my thoughts from far away. You search out my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways” (Psalm 139:1-3). Others may misunderstand me and judge me, but You know me. Others may hear my words through the filters of their own experiences and see my heart as they see fit in their own eyes. But Your know me. You know all my sins and failures and You know all hopes and dreams. You’re not fooled by the worst of me, but You’re also always calling forth the best in me. And every moment of every day, You are at work in the power and mercy of Your grace to make me more like You (Romans 8:29). You’re not trying to conform me to anybody else’s image; You’re trying to conform me to Your image—as I look to You instead of them, as I seek Your will instead of theirs (2 Corinthians 3:18). But it’s also not my own will apart from Your will that I desire either. I’ve learned enough to trust You to know best. You’ve made me wise enough to know to sincerely ask Your to form Your thoughts in my mind and Your desires in my heart, as You lead me to walk in Your ways. As I am true to You, then I am true to myself. Because You already see who I truly am and who I truly will be. “For it was You who formed my inward parts; You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made…. In Your book are written all the days that were formed for me, when none of them as yet existed” (Psalm 139:13-16). Somehow in the divine mystery of both Your sovereignty and my freedom, You allow me to choose the path of my life, even as You know and plan for every step I’ll take. You see the end from the beginning and the beginning from the end, for You are the beginning and You are the end (Revelation 1:8). “All things have been created through (You) and for (You). (You yourself are) before all things, and in (You) all things hold together” (Colossians 1:16-17). So I willingly and wisely choose by the grace You’ve given me and the freedom I have to seek You and Your will as the path for my life—no matter what anyone else would rather choose for me. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen. Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays My friend, please keep me and Messiah Ministries in prayer to hear and obey the will of God in all ways. I pray the same for you and am so grateful to have you with me in the journey of prayer, morning by morning and moment by moment. God bless you! Freedom Outposts in the Spirit of God 8-2-10

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Set me free to be more like You each day. … “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom” (2 Corinthians 3:17). Lord Jesus, You are still healing the brokenhearted and setting the captives free. You are still ministering the healing love of God in the power of the Holy Spirit. As the Father sent You, so You are still sending us as Your disciples to be Your body and continue Your ministry of restoring our lives and redeeming our past, to know our identity and fulfill our destiny in You (John 20:21-23). And not only the people, but also the land and all creation groans and yearns in the hope of this freedom. “For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the children of God; for the creation was subjected to futility, not of its own will but by the will of the One who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to decay and will obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God” (Romans 8:19-21). And we see that happening before our eyes in our day. Your Spirit of freedom is being released in the land and in the hearts of Your people. Just Friday morning, I heard Chuck Peirce prophesy that in the coming years Kentucky would become known as a freedom outpost and that people from many surrounding states would be drawn here to be set free. By Friday night, we began our healing prayer weekend to minister the healing power of Your love to Your people through inner healing and deliverance. Those coming to receive prayer minister and those coming to pray came from six surrounding states. And there was great freedom! Let the Spirit of the Lord keep falling upon us and keep anointing us as the body and bride of Christ throughout the earth to proclaim the coming of Your Kingdom and see it demonstrated in Your power (Isaiah 61:1-2). Let Your light shine and let Your glory arise upon Your people who are called by Your name, as You heal the broken and free the bound, filling us with Your Spirit so we can fulfill our destiny (Isaiah 60:1-3). Set us free to be like Jesus. Empty us of ourselves as You fill us with Yourself, that we “may be filled with all the fullness of God” (Ephesians 3:19). As you do, the glory of the Presence of God, have full and free access to live and love in and through Your people throughout all the earth will fulfill the prophecy of Your Word that “the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea” (Habakkuk 2:14). For wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom! In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen. Be encouraged today! Mobilize and Rise in the New Sound of “Moving Glory 7-30-10

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Lead me into Your truth for my life today. … “Arise, shine; for your Light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you” (Isaiah 60:1). Arise! Arise! Arise and shine, my soul Arise! Arise! Arise and be made whole For my Light has come He’s made me one And called me to come Along in the journey with Him Arise my soul For all to know That Jesus is King Here living within my soul Thank You for these words of a new song Your Holy Spirit is writing and singing in my heart and soul this morning as I rise. My spirit is still stirring from the words of encouragement I heard with many last night. I joined with prayer warriors and passionate worshipers from around Kentucky in Madisonville last night to hear a prophetic word of the redemptive calling upon our people and our land that Chuck Pierce was sent here to proclaim to the people of Kentucky: “Kentucky will mobilize … I will send a sweeping west wind and the songs will rise from the ground to connect with the songs of heaven and a new sound will penetrate through this state from west to the east. I say that the glory will move back from the east to west. And where adversity was holding this state, with My sound of portion from the west begins to interact with My glory from the east, there will be a breaking down of the line of division that has held this state back…. You will be a people who will have such a moving glory worship that (the throne of evil assigned by the enemy over this state to destroy its destiny) will topple…. A sovereign move in one day…. Those that were fractured will be drawn in…. For the land has withheld its produce until the will of My Spirit begins to rise. I say that sound is now beginning tonight…. Leaders will make a handshake in days ahead to worship together…. I will now begin to unlock within you what you thought you could not see. Now vision will come. I will surprise you for you will be in the midst of your normal activities and I will open your eyes in a new way…. (Others) will gather into this place to be free. Many who are held captive by the wilderness… will gather into this place to be free. For you will be known as the state that is capable of bringing a people and a nation out of their wandering…. That circle that you’ve been wandering in is now broken! … This will be the state where My Spirit will manifest in its fullness…. Beginning tonight I am coming again to this state!” Yes, Lord. Let it be so. You are speaking Your words of life and truth to Your people who will hear and pray and proclaim the coming of Your Word and Spirit into our hearts and throughout our land. Awaken our hearts in worship. Let our souls arise in praise, even violent praise that shakes the spiritual realm and changes the spiritual atmosphere of our land by this move of Your Holy Spirit within us (Matthew 11:12). Fulfill Your purposes through Your people. You’ve been moving us to prepare the way of the Lord for generations in worship and prayer. Come Lord Jesus, and be enthroned in our praises over this land that freedom may come. Let the days of our wandering in the wilderness come to an end and the days of the fulfillment of our destiny come forth to the glory of Your name. “You, O Lord, are enthroned forever; Your name endures to all generations. You will rise up and have compassion on Zion, for it is time to favor it; the appointed time has come” (Psalm 102:12-13). In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen. Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays Friends, I pray for God's fulfillment of His prophetic destiny for your land and mine as we seek the Lord and follow the vision He seals in our hearts--all in His time and His way, as we trust and obey. Please keep us in prayer for our Healing Prayer Weekend starting tonight in Lexington. We're filled to capacity this time and would love for you to join us in person or in prayer next time! Trusted Discernment 7-29-10

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Put Your thoughts in my mind and Your desires in my heart. I entrust this day and my life into Your will and Your care. … “Then those who revered the Lord spoke with one another. The Lord took note and listened, and a book of remembrance was written before Him of those who revered the Lord and thought on His name. They shall be Mine, says the Lord, My special possession on the day when I act, and I will spare them as parents spare their children who serves them. Then once more you shall see the difference between the righteous and the wicked, between one who serves God and one who does not serve Him” (Malachi 3:16-18). We can all be deceived, confused, or mistaken. None of us always hear and obey Your voice perfectly. And when we earnestly try to, the enemy of our souls seems especially interested in coming to deceptively appear as an “angel of light” and subtly sound like the Holy Spirit to sow as much destruction and wreak as much havoc as possible in the name of God (2 Corinthians 11:13-14). So we must continually look to You—to revere You as Lord and think on Your name, to entrust our thoughts and desires to You, and to persistently give You permission to purge all deception and confusion from us. Then You can heal us and free us from the insecurities and fears that can so easily lead us to open to the door to deception, control, and manipulation of others for the purposes of our own will that we can sincerely, but mistakenly claim to be Your will. We must have humility to acknowledge our vulnerabilities, courage to seek the godly council of godly friends, and admit when we’re wrong or out of the order that You have established in our lives. We must “discern” the true motives that can cloud our judgment as we continually, willingly, open our hearts wide before You (Malachi 3:18, NKJV). Only then can we begin to trust that our discernment is true and our heart on the matter is pure. “And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ, being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God” (Philippians 1:9-11, NKJV). You are watching for those who are watching for You. They are the children who seek You and long to serve You. They are Your “special possession” with a tender place in Your Father heart. I want to be one of those children. I want to be sensitive to Your leading and correction, to Your conviction and encouragement. And I want the power of Your grace to redeem my mistakes and even cause me to grow wiser and stronger in Your Word and Your Spirit. Keep me in the place of seeking Your face. Let me serve and lead with authority and love because I follow You in humility and trust. Keep sorting out the wheat from the chaff, the spirit from the flesh, the righteousness from the wickedness in my own heart and in the hearts of all around me. Let our names be found in Your book of remembrance among those found faithful to seek You first and Your Kingdom and Your righteousness above all else. As we speak with one another, let us encourage one another to seek first and only the will of the One who alone deserves our compete trust. I trust You so much because I love You so much; and I love You so much because You first loved me (1 John 4:19). In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen. Be encouraged today! Come with Trumpet Sound 7-28-10

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Your name is the name above every name. In these first moments of my morning, I bow down before You, worship and adore You, as I entrust my day to Your care. … “Make two silver trumpets; you shall make them of hammered work; and you shall use them for summoning the congregation, and for breaking camp” (Numbers 10:2). You led Israel through the wilderness by the cloud and fire of Your Presence (v. 9:15-23). And You spoke to their hearts to call them to come and align them as one by the sound of Your trumpets. At one sound, You called them to gather. At another sound, You sent them forth. They were to sound the trumpets when they were to assemble as a whole congregation (v. 10:3), when they were to come as a gathering of the leaders (v. 4), when they were to prepare for attack or set out in battle (v. 5-6), and when they rejoiced with thanksgiving and celebration for Your goodness and provision in their lives (v. 10). They were to know the sound of Your trumpets and immediately respond, following the leading of Your voice through the means You would choose. But those entrusted with the assignment to sound the trumpets at Your command had to be clear in the call they sent. And those called to respond had to be clear in their minds about the meaning of each distinctive sound of the call they heard. Otherwise, there would be confusion and chaos, instead of unity and order (1 Corinthians 14:7-8). We must learn to discern with clarity and precision the call of Your command in the ways You choose to assemble us, align us, and advance us in Your purposes and plans. Help us take the time now to be trained to respond to the sound of Your command. And then ultimately, one day we will be able hear and respond to Your “cry of command, with the archangel’s call and with the sound of (Your) trumpet” as You “descend from heaven” to gather us to Yourself, when You return in glory to restore all things (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17). “When He shall come with trumpet sound, O may I then in Him be found…. Led by Cloud and Fire 7-27-10

Good morning, Lord Jesus. I lift up my face and open up my heart, as I speak out Your name and welcome in Your Spirit to begin this new day. … “On the day the tabernacle was set up, the cloud covered the tabernacle, the tent of the covenant; and from evening until morning it was over the tabernacle, having the appearance of fire. It was always so: the cloud covered it by day and the appearance of fire by night. Whenever the cloud lifted from over the tent, then the Israelites would set out; and in the place where the cloud settled down, there the Israelites would camp. At the command of the Lord the Israelites would set out, and at the command of the Lord the Israelites would camp” (Numbers 9:15-18). I spent seven days and nights last week, preaching at old-fashioned Georgia campmeeting out under “the tabernacle” and surrounded by “the tents” of those who came to experience Your Presence and encounter Your power to refresh and renew our lives. We came to tabernacle with You. And You came and “tabernacled” within us. You filled out hearts with the cloud of the glory of Your Presence and set us ablaze with the fire of the power of Your Spirit. Though most of the families had been coming for generations, each person was drawn there to camp “at the command of the Lord” by the drawing of Your Holy Spirit. And just as You led us to come, so You sent us out—not keeping what You have done hidden away in a camp, but carrying Your cloud and Your fire with us and within us wherever You send us. Every morning, draw me close to come to campmeeting in prayer with You. Let Your glory fill the tabernacle of my heart, let Your fire burn as tongues of flame over my head. Let me come and go at Your command through the wilderness of this world on my journey home to the place You’ve promised to prepare for me. May it always be so. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen. Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays Friends, thank you for covering us in prayer at the historic Lebanon Methodist Campmeeting last week near Gainesville, Georgia. It was an incredible experience in the campmeeting setting I'd never had before and the Holy Spirit meet with us all in powerful ways to empower us more for the journey ahead. I pray the same for you in your journey with God. Thank you for joining me in mine! God bless you! July 30-August 1, 2010 Healing Prayer Weekend at Asbury Inn, Wilmore, Kentucky. Send Your Supernatural Power 7-23-10

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Let me start off this day centered in You, grounded in Your Word and filled with Your Spirit. … “While Peter was kept in prison, the church prayed fervently to God for him…. Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared and a light shone in the cell. He tapped Peter on the side and woke him, saying, ‘Get up quickly.’ And the chains fell off his wrists…. Then Peter came to himself and said, ‘Now I am sure that the Lord has sent His angel and rescued me from the hands of Herod…’ ” (Acts 12:5-11). When Peter was in prison, Your church wasn’t moved with fear, Your church was moved to pray. And as they moved in prayer, You moved in power. You didn’t send them to break through the prison bars by human means, You called them to break through by spiritual means. You didn’t send someone with hacksaw to cut through Peter’s chains, You sent an angel with Your supernatural power. He wasn’t rescued by the power of man in the natural realm, he was rescued by God in the spiritual realm. You are a supernatural God. And there are times when we become so imprisoned by the chains of our circumstances that we can only be set free by Your supernatural power. And when You do, we can be sure that it was You alone who rescued us. O Lord, send Your supernatural power to break through into every area of my life today. Send Your supernatural power to break through into every life my life will touch today. Like the disciples of Your early church, I want to pray fervently, proclaim Your name fearlessly, and expectantly trust You to move in every challenging circumstance I face powerfully. I don’t want to just talk about it, I want to pray about it. And when I pray about it, I want to believe by faith that You have heard my prayers and sent Your power to rescue me. That’s how Your Kingdom comes and Your will is done, here on earth and here in all the challenges of my life, as it is in heaven. “For the Kingdom of God depends not on talk but on power” (1 Corinthians 4:20). In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen. Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays Friends, please keep us in prayer for our Lebanon Methodist Camp Meeting outside of Gainesville, Georgia this week. If you're in the area, come join us for revival every night through Sunday night with special music starting at 7:30. God bless you and may He set you ablaze with revival in your heart! Camp Meeting at the Tabernacle 7-22-10

Good morning, Lord Jesus. I love You, Lord, and I thank You for first loving me. … “This shall be a continual burnt offering throughout your generations at the door of the tabernacle of meeting before the Lord, where I will meet you to speak with you. And there I will meet with the children of Israel, and the tabernacle shall be sanctified for My glory…. I will dwell among the children of Israel and will be their God. And they shall know that I am the Lord their God, who brought them up out of the land of Egypt, that I may dwell among them. I am the Lord their God” (Exodus 29:42-46, NKJV). For seven nights, I’ve been honored to be the preacher at the Lebanon Methodist Camp Meeting out in the country woods of north Georgia. It’s a tradition that’s been faithfully carried on for a hundred and sixty-four years. There’s been a camp meeting revival out under this tabernacle at the center of camp every year since the middle of the eighteen hundreds except for the year Sherman’s army came through here to burn Atlanta in the Civil War. And just like the tabernacle the children of Israel carried through the wilderness on their way to the promised land, this tabernacle is surrounded by “the tents” of the families and friends who set aside a week of their lives to come to camp meeting to encounter Your Presence and be strengthened in Your Word and Your Spirit. Many of the families are here every year with four generations and sometimes five, who’ve grown up going to camp meeting and wouldn’t be any place else during this week every summer. The campground is filled with the laughter of children and circles of chairs of cousins and families catching up on life. They come out of the Egypt of their everyday lives to meet their God and meet with their families in this holy place where You manifest Your Presence and display Your glory. How pleased You must be with the “continual offering” of their sacrifice of praise throughout the generations. Every meal is a feast of the best southern home cooking with fresh tomatoes and corn on the cob picked out of the fields and gardens that day. And every night is feast of worship and southern gospel lifted up to the heavens and welcomed deep within our hearts. Surely the cloud of the glory of Your Presence and the pillar of fire of Your Spirit rests upon this holy ground set apart to come dwell with You as You come dwell with us. Here in this place and forever in our hearts, You are the Lord our God and we are Your people. O Lord, keep coming to tabernacle among us—here this week and throughout our lives and throughout our generations. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen. Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays Friends, sorry that I've not had internet access to send out my morning prayers this week. I've gone "outside the camp" to send it this morning. “Go to Him outside the Camp” 7-19-10

Good morning, Lord Jesus. I lift my eyes and open my hear to You my King. Let Your Kingdom come in my heart and throughout my day. … “Let us then go to Him outside the camp… For here we have no lasting city, but we are looking for the city that is to come. Through Him, then, let us continually offer a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that confess His name” (Hebrews 13:13-15). I’m up early and at the airport on my way to Georgia to preach the next seven nights at an old-fashioned Holy Ghost camp meeting. They tell me I’ll be staying in “the preacher’s tent” and ministering to the people in “the tabernacle.” Glory to God! As in the days of old, call us away on a pilgrimage with You to go to a deeper place within each one of us. As we sing Your praise and confess Your name, let us be changed. Save us and sanctify us, heal us and deliver us, fill us up with the Holy Ghost and set our hearts on fire with a fresh passion for You. Let it not only be a revival of Your Spirit in our souls, but also a revolution of Your love in our hearts. May we never be the same. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen. Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays Friends, I'm not sure what internet access I'll have this coming week, but hope to be in touch with my morning prayers. Thank you for joining me in the journey and I'd welcome your prayers for us in Georgia. God bless you and may He set you ablaze with revival in your heart! Healing our Wounded Emotions 7-16-10

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Cleanse me and fill me, anoint me and empower me, live in me and through me today. … “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless His holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and do not forget all His benefits—who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the Pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good as long as you live so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s” (Psalm 103:1-5). I’ll be teaching today at the Aldersgate Conference on Spirit-filled Living in Charleston about Your will and power to heal our wounded emotions and ministering the healing love of God to all who come. The healing of our souls—our mind, will, and emotions—is very important to you. You care about the healing of our spirits, so that we may be free from the law of sin and death to live eternally with You. And You care about the healing of our bodies, so that we may strong and sound to serve You and share You in good health. But You also care about our souls, so that we may live life and live it abundantly in our minds and how we think, in our wills and how we make our choices throughout the moments of our days, and in our emotions and how we sense and feel all the encounters and experiences of life. You desire that “all may go well with (us), and that (we) may be in good health, just as it is well with our (soul)” (3 John 2). You desire “that (we) may prosper in all things and be in good health, just as (our) souls prospers” (NKJV). So take our fears and worries, uproot our bitterness and mend our offenses. Change our shame and pain into praise. Break off discouragement and depression. Cleanse us from our lusts and unholy desires. Redeem our lives from the Pit—all the places that try to hold us back and shut us down from experiencing the fullness of life You long give and for us to live. Heal us, free us, purify us and sanctify us in “spirit and soul and body” that we may be both “sound and blameless” in every area of our lives, including the very depths of our emotions (1 Thessalonians 5:23). Then we will know the “righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit” of “the Kingdom of God” that abides in us as we abide in You (Romans 14:17). In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen. Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays Come to The Fountain! Seeking the Secrets of the Kingdom 7-15-10

Good morning, Lord Jesus. King of kings, Lord of lords, be King of my heart and Lord of my life today. … “He said, ‘To you it has been given to know the secrets of the Kingdom of God…’ ” (Luke 8:10). Like searching for gold, there are secrets of Your Kingdom that wait for those who seek them. Like treasures hidden in a field, they are buried to be found by those who will take the time to dig and persist until they hold the thing they seek in their hands. They are not secret because You don’t want us to know them and they are not hidden because You don’t want us to find them. But You’ve created us to grow in wisdom as we pursue our reward. It’s not just the destination that’s important, but also who we are becoming in the journey. It’s not just what we hold in our hands at the end of the day or come to believe in our minds by an intellectual assent to truth by the end of our lives that matters, but also all that we learn from our mistakes about Your nature and ours, as You form our nature into Your nature all along the way. This is how we come to know the secrets of the Kingdom of God. “So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks, the door will be opened” (Luke 11:9-10, NKJV). Lord, give me that anointing—the anointing of the seeker, the anointing of one who’s always hungry for more—always asking, always seeking, always knocking. “It is the glory of God to conceal things, but the glory of kings is to search things out” (Proverbs 25:2). What secrets of Your Kingdom have You set before me to seek out and discover today? … I’ll know it when I find it, but I’ll only find it if I first embrace the hunger You’re stirring in my spirit to seek for it. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen. Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays Morning by Morning, Wednesday 7-14-10 – Redeemer and Restorer of Life Good morning, Lord Jesus. I seek Your face every morning; I need Your grace every moment. … “Naomi her mother-in-law said to her, ‘My daughter, I need to seek some security for you, so that it may be well with you’” (Ruth 3:1). You created each of us with a deep need for security—a deep need for a sense of belonging, being honored and respected for who we are, grounded in our true identity and growing into our true destiny. Only when we have that sense of security deep down in our soul may it truly be well with us. Naomi knew that need for herself and for her daughter-in-law Ruth. Both were widowed, both were no longer secure in the lives they’d had because of the tragedies and tribulations of life. But even out of her own insecurities, You moved in Naomi’s heart to seek that security for Ruth. So she encouraged Ruth to seek the one who would be her security and redeem the brokenness of her life (v. 2-18). Naomi sent Ruth to Boaz, who would become Ruth’s husband and become Ruth’s redeemer, restoring her name and her inheritance of both land and descendants under the customs of Israel (v. 4:1-13). Not only would Boaz become Ruth’s redeemer, but he would become Naomi’s as well. Ruth and Boaz would bear a son—a grandson Naomi would embrace in her arms, loved and secure, with the blessing all who saw what God had done: “Blessed be the Lord, who has not left you this day without next-of-kin; and may his name be renowned in Israel! He shall be to you a restorer of life and a nourisher of your old age; for your daughter-in-law who loves you, who is more to you than seven sons, has borne him” (v. 4:14-15). Naomi who sought the security of a redeemer for Ruth found that very security for herself. What she had sown she also reaped; by the measure she gave she also received. And not only did Ruth and Naomi receive the blessing of the security of a redeemer. But their blessing would become our blessing. Ruth and Boaz had a son named Obed, who had a son named Jesse, who had a son named David. And one day David would have a Descendent who would be known as the Son of David, the Son of Man, the Son of God. And His name was Jesus. He would be our blessing of security and our redeemer. Because of the security we would find in Him, it would be well with us. Lord Jesus, You are my security. You are my redeemer and “the restorer of life” (v. 4:15). Only in You can it be well within me. But in You, it is well with my soul. And in You I have every need for longing and belonging fulfilled, as You ground me in my true identity and grow me into my true destiny. Like Naomi and Ruth, may I find that for myself even as I seek it for others. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen. Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays Come to The Fountain!
