“Let’s Go to Bethlehem!” - December 23, 2021

 

Morning by Morning, December 23 - “Let’s Go to Bethlehem!” Good morning, Lord Jesus. O come let us adore, You -- Christ the Lord. ... “When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, ‘Let us go now to Bethlehem and see this thing that has taken place, which the Lord has made known to us.’ So they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Child lying in the manger. When they saw this, they made known what had been told them about this Child; and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds told them” (Luke 2:15-18). When the angels announced Your birth in Bethlehem to the shepherds, their hearts leapt with excitement and anticipation. “Let’s go to Bethlehem!” they said -- maybe even chanted. And “they went with haste.” Let it be the things of God that stir our hearts. Let it be the excitement and anticipation of things of Your kingdom that move us with passion. Let it be the joy of Jesus and the amazing grace of Your goodness -- Your “good news of great joy” -- that motivates us to make known all that You are and all that You’ve done for every one of us. “Let’s go to Bethlehem!” In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today! Christ is Born in Us and We’re Born Again in Christ - December 22, 2021

 

Morning by Morning, December 22 - Christ is Born in Us and We’re Born Again in Christ Good morning, Lord Jesus. You are the Word made Flesh. And I welcome Your Word here in my heart, to ponder and pray Your Word in my heart today. ... “And (Mary) gave birth to her firstborn Son and wrapped Him in bands of cloth, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn” (Luke 2:7). Mary opened her womb to Your Holy Spirit, that You could come into this world as Lord and Savior to be born in her. Her response to Your invitation through the angel was, “Let it be with me according to your word” (Luke 1:38). And just as Mary opened her womb, so You invite each one of us to open our hearts to Your Holy Spirit, that You may come into our world to be born in us as our personal Lord and Savior. You invite each of us to say to You, like Mary said to the angel, “Let it be with me according to Your Word.”  When we do, Your Holy Spirit enters our human spirits, as the heart of God comes into our hearts, so that we’re born by the Spirit to live “in the Spirit” instead of living in merely in our flesh, according to Your Word: “But you are not in the flesh; you are in the Spirit, since the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to Him. But if Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness. If the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will give life to your mortal bodies also through His Spirit that dwells in you” (Romans 8:9-11). “Spirit of Christ,” be born in us -- be born in me and every heart that’s opened to You. When You’re born in us, we’re born again in You (John 3:3). And when we’re born again in You, You come and live Your life in our world through us. “When Christ who is (our) life is revealed, then (we) also will be revealed with Him in glory” (Colossians 3:4). “Christ in (us),” who is the Spirit of Christ in us, “the hope of glory” (Colossians 1:27). Born in me, I’m born again in You. Come shine with the Light of Your hope and Your glory through me today and every day. Let it be with me according to Your Word. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. When “The Time Came” - December 21, 2021

 

Morning by Morning, December 21 - When “The Time Came” Good morning, Lord Jesus. Savior of the world and Lord of my life, fill my heart with Your Spirit, as I wait upon You and Your leading to begin my day. ... “Joseph also went from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to the city of David called Bethlehem, because he was descended from the house and family of David. He went to be registered with Mary, to whom he was engaged and who was expecting a Child. While they were there, the time came for her to deliver her Child” (Luke 2:4-6). When “the time came” for one of the most spiritually significant events of all eternity -- the birth of Christ -- Mary and Joseph were at a different place than they had been before. They were in a place called Nazareth, but when “the time came” for this dramatic day in their lives, they were in a new place called Bethlehem. And it was exactly the right place to be at exactly the right time to be there. Somehow in the mystery of the alignment of human free will and the divinely determined will of our sovereign God, all things aligned for the day of this event. The Emperor of Rome had ordered them to travel there to Bethlehem (v. 1). Mary and Joseph had chosen to travel there to Bethlehem (v. 5). And at the same time, the prophetic Word of God had foreseen and foretold over seven hundred years before that day that Bethlehem would be the exact place for this specific event when “the time came” for the birth of Christ: “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for Me One who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times” (Micah 5:2). In the same way, I ask You to align my heart with Your heart, my days with Your days, my time with Your time, so that I’m at the right place at the right time for all You’ve purposed for my life when the time comes for every spiritually significant event of my life. In the mystery of Your sovereignty and my freedom, I ask You to line up what the government of the world is doing with what the government of heaven has decreed, as You guide me to make my choices along the way according to Your plan. When I look back on these days from the side of eternity to come, I pray I’ll be able to say -- like Mary and Joseph -- I was at the right place at the right time when “the time came.” In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today!
