Morning by Morning, May 26 - “Behold He Comes!”
Good morning, Lord Jesus. Your Word says, “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you” (James 4:8). In worship and watching and waiting for Your leading, I draw near to You with expectant faith of You drawing near to me -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God. ...
“You must understand this, that in the last days distressing times will come. For people will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, inhuman, implacable, slanderers, profligates, brutes, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, holding to the outward form of godliness but denying its power. Avoid them! ... These people, of corrupt mind and counterfeit faith, also oppose the truth. But they will not make much progress, because ... their folly will become plain to everyone” (2 Timothy 3:1-9).
Though these are days of great trials -- distressing days of corrupt minds, counterfeit faith, distorted truth, even clothed in religious and self-righteous language exposed by a powerless form of godliness -- these are days of Your great glory. And though it may seem like those who oppose Your Word and Your Spirit are prevailing for time, they “will not make much progress, because (in the fullness of time) their folly (of their foolish rebellion) will become plain to everyone.”
As You declared in Your Word long ago, long before the unfolding of these days:
“Why do the nations conspire,
and the peoples plot in vain?
The kings of the earth set themselves,
and the rulers take counsel together,
against the Lord and His anointed, saying,
‘Let us burst their bonds asunder,
and cast their cords from us.’
He who sits in the heavens laughs;
the Lord has them in derision!
Then He will speak to them in His wrath,
and terrify them in His fury, saying,
I have set My King on Zion, My holy hill!’” (Psalm 2:1-6)
O “King of kings and Lord of lords!” We long for the day the heavens will open and You will come, riding on the clouds to set things right in the earth!
“Behold, He comes with the clouds and every eye shall see Him, and they which have pierced Him, and all the tribes of the land shall wail because of Him. Yea. Amen!” (Revelation 1:7 Darby Translation).
“Then I saw heaven opened, and there was a white horse! Its Rider is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on His head are many diadems; and He has a name inscribed that no one knows but Himself. He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. And the armies of heaven, wearing fine linen, white and pure, were following Him on white horses. From His mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and He will rule them with a rod of iron; He will tread the wine press of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. On His robe and on His thigh He has a name inscribed, ‘King of kings and Lord of lords’” (Revelation 19:11-16).
One day You’ll come with the armies of heaven. But at the same time, You’re coming with heaven in our hearts now. You’re arising and shining in those who stand firm in Your Word, filled up with Your Spirit. The “lovers of God,” the lovers of Truth, will “shine like stars in the world” as “children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation” (Philippians 2:15). “Those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the sky, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever” (Daniel 12:3).
Come “shining like the sun” in us today! “Christ in (us), the hope of glory!” (Colossians 1:27) Let Your glory arise and shine with the Word and Spirit of Your Light in us in the midst of our world!
As Your Word declared of Your people in these days long ago:
“Arise, shine; for your light has come,
and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you.
For darkness shall cover the earth,
and thick darkness the peoples;
but the Lord will arise upon you,
and His glory will appear over you.
Nations shall come to your light,
and kings to the brightness of your dawn” (Isaiah 60:1-3).
These are those days! Behold He comes!
“The Spirit and the bride say, Come!” (Revelation 22:17) In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
