"Great and Mighty Things" - June 24, 2021

 

Morning by Morning, June 24 - "Great and Mighty Things"  Good morning, Lord Jesus. Align my spirit, soul, and body with Your heart, plans, and purposes for my day -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God.  ...  "Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know" (Jeremiah 33:3 NKJV).  As I begin my day centered in You -- grounded in Your Word and filled with Your Spirit -- I call to You and listen for Your answer. I look expectantly in faith for the great and mighty things You’ll show me and do in me and even do through me as a child of God, filled with the Spirit of God, seeking to walk out this day in the will of God. You're a great and mighty God. And You do great and mighty things. So I'm excited to see what You will do today! Some things may be dramatic; some things may be more subtle. But all You do is always good. You're a good Father who gives good gifts to Your children and desires good things for Your people (Luke 11:13). And You have Your way of always working everything out to cause it all to work together for good -- no matter the source and no matter the circumstances (Romans 8:28).  So I thank You for the blessing of adventure -- an adventure of faith every day. As I call to You, You answer. As I seek You, You show me the way.  As I put my life in Your hands, You put my life in the center of Your will. And I believe it's Your will to show me great and mighty things I did not know today -- in fact, "exceedingly abundantly above all that we can ask or think!" (Ephesians 3:20); in fact, “even greater things” than we have seen before (John 14:12). In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.  Be encouraged today! Turning 60 and Still Turning to You - June 8, 2021

 

Morning by Morning, June 8 - Turning 60 and Still Turning to You Good morning, Lord Jesus. I look to You, as I begin my day and continue my journey to grow up into maturity -- “to the measure of the full stature of Christ” in every way You desire to express Your nature through my life (Ephesians 4:15). For as You are, so are we to be in our world (1 John 4:17). ... In two days, I’ll be turning 60. I’m thinking about it today because this will be my last chance to sit down and write out my morning prayer before leaving on a family trip early, early in the morning. For several years, a Birthday Scripture has come to mind to speak of a prophetic truth for that year of my life. This year is a big one -- 60! And a big Scripture comes to mind -- Isaiah 60 -- one of my favorites (though It’s all good!) “Arise, shine; for your Light has come,     and the Glory of the Lord has risen upon you. For darkness shall cover the earth,     and thick darkness the peoples; but the Lord will arise upon you,     and His Glory will appear over you. Nations shall come to your Light,     and kings to the Brightness of your dawn!” (Isaiah 60:1-3) You are my Light, Lord Jesus. You are the Brightness of my dawn. And I pray You would arise up me and shine through me -- more and more every day, but in a breakthrough way this 60th year of my life. It’s Your Glory. “And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen His glory, the glory as of a Father’s only Son, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14). It’s Your Light. For You are “the Light of the world. Whoever follows (You) will never walk in darkness but will have the Light of Life” (John 8:12). And at the same time, in the sovereignty of Your will and the mystery of Your ways, You choose to display Your Glory and shine Your Light through us. “Christ in (us), the hope of glory” -- Your Glory, Your Light, arising upon us and shining through us (Colossians 1:27). “For we do not proclaim ourselves; we proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord and ourselves as your bondservants for Jesus’ sake. For it is God who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ” (2 Corinthians 4:5-6). This day, all this 60th year, and for the rest of my life on my journey through this world, may I carry the manifest Glory of Your Presence in my heart by Your Spirit abiding in me; and may my face shine with the Light of Jesus shining through me. May even nations and kings be drawn to the brightness of Your Dawn, dawning on me -- not only for me, but for all who turn to You and entrust their lives completely in trusting surrender and expectant faith. By the grace of God, I’m turning 60 and still turning to You! In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today! Knowing “This is the Way” - June 7, 2021

 

Morning by Morning, June 7 - Knowing “This is the Way” Good morning, Lord Jesus. Put Your thoughts in my mind, Your desires in my heart, Your words in my mouth. Make me more like You today. ... “And when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left, your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it’” (Isaiah 30:21). The issues of our day and the challenges we face are new every morning. The cultural landscape, the political pitfalls, the clashing of accusations, the suspicions and suppressions, and all that would seek to divide us and conquer us, to steal and kill and destroy us -- all swirl around us and strike at us like a snake full of poisonous venom. But our God is greater! And “the One who is in (us) is greater than the one who is in the world!” (1 John 4:4) Every generation fights its battles. Every age has to come of its own, through all it endures and overcomes. But we cannot overcome and come of our own in the ways of Your Spirit if we’re trusting in the ways of our world. More than ever, we need to hear Your voice. We need to learn to lean in to Your Presence, more deeply and intimately than ever before, so that we know that it’s Your voice we’re hearing and discern how You’re leading. For “(we) have not passed this way before” (Joshua 3:4). But just as our issues and challenges are new every morning, so is Your grace and guidance, Your mercy and love: “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases,      His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning;     great is Your faithfulness. ‘The Lord is my portion,’ says my soul,    ‘therefore I will hope in Him.’ The Lord is good to those who wait for Him,     to the soul that seeks Him” (Lamentations 3:22-25). Come, Holy Spirit. Father God, speak to my heart. Lord Jesus, help me hear Your voice. I’m waiting on You and listening for Your leading to guide my steps and let me know in my heart, “This is the way. Walk in it.” In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today! “Spy Out the Land” - June 4, 2021

 

Morning by Morning, June 4 - “Spy Out the Land” Good morning, Lord Jesus. Let my spirit awaken and arise into the newness of life You have for me today -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God. ... “Then the Lord spoke to Moses saying, ‘Send out for yourself men so that they may spy out the land of Canaan, which I am going to give to the sons of Israel; you shall send a man from each of their fathers' tribes, a leader from each tribe’” (Numbers 13:1–2). My heart is Your Canaan -- the Promised Land of all You’ve set apart for me according to the promises of Your Word and the unfolding revelation of Your will for my life. If I’m willing to look and listen, to press in and pray, You show me glimpses and shadows of things to come as I “spy out the land.” Some things You want me to know. Others, it’s best if I don’t. But in it all and through it all, You want me to trust You that it’s “an exceedingly good land” (Numbers 14:7). You want me to trust You that the plans You have for me are good plans, for my good and not for my harm, a future full of hope as I learn to put my faith in You (Jeremiah 29:11). Come, Holy Spirit. Open the eyes of my heart to see the good land You’ve set before me. This day and every day, show me what I need to see and give me faith for what I don’t yet see. Give me grace to take hold and possess the fullness of my inheritance in You, my Promised Land of Your Abiding Presence with me through my life every step of the way. As the Apostle Paul prayed by Your Spirit for me and for all who are called to come spy out the land and enter in to our inheritance in You:  “I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give (us) a spirit of wisdom and revelation as (we) come to know Him, so that, with the eyes of (our) heart enlightened, (we) may know what is the hope to which He has called (us), what are the riches of His glorious inheritance among the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of His power for us who believe, according to the working of His great power!” (Ephesians 1:17-19).
