Honoring Our Fallen Warriors - May 30, 2022

Morning by Morning, May 30 - Honoring Our Fallen Warriors

Good morning, Lord Jesus. I look to You and honor You -- here in these first moments of my morning and in every moment of my day. ...

In my nation, today is Memorial Day. We honor the men and women who fought and died for our freedom, that we can remain “the land of the free and the home of the brave.” I know some don’t; but I do.

They are fallen warriors. Their lives and their deaths have meaning and purpose, essential for the survival of our nation and worthy of the honor of our nation. They laid down their lives for us that we could live our lives in freedom. Freedom has a price; and they paid that price. “There is a time for war” (Ecclesiastes 3:8). And they answered the call of their time with the sacrifice of their lives.

As I think of them today, I also think of You. In a sense, You are our Fallen Warrior:

“I will sing to the Lord, for He has triumphed gloriously;
    horse and rider He has thrown into the sea.
The Lord is my Strength and my Might,
    and He has become my Salvation;
this is my God, and I will praise Him;
    my father’s God, and I will exalt Him.
The Lord is a Warrior;
    the Lord is His name!” (Exodus 15:1-3)

The enemy of our souls did not take Your life, but You willingly laid down Your life for us (John 10:18). You are the One who is both our Fallen Warrior and our Victorious Warrior, as You poured out Your Blood for us at the Cross, and as our Father raised You from the dead for us in Resurrection Life to give You the name above every name (Philippians 2:5-11).

You were Fallen, that we could be forgiven. You died, that we could live in freedom -- freedom from sin, freedom from regret, freedom from everything that would hold us back from being all You created us to be. And that we could live our lives in honor -- the honor of knowing we are sons and daughters of the living God, created with meaning and purpose, to live out our destiny in You in the freedom You’ve made available to us.

“Thanks be to God that (we) who were slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart ... having been set free from sin” through Your sacrifice on the Cross for us! (Romans 6:17-18)

So this Memorial Day, as we honor the brave men and women who fought for us and died for us as fallen warriors, we also remember and honor the One who gives meaning and honor to both our lives and our deaths when our lives are entrusted to You. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

My friend, I join with you to remember and honor our fallen warriors, as we remember and our Fallen and Victorious Warrior, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, in Jesus' name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

Pakistan Ministry Praise Report!
We are praising God! Another Holy Spirit Outpouring during our Pakistan Ministry Open Air Crusade through our monthly internet ministry there! We had our largest gathering yet, with this exciting Praise Report from our ministry partners there, Pastor Rizwan and Mehwish Fazal:

“Thank the Lord 372 Souls are Saved and 28 Persons are Healed on the Spot!
One Person wasn’t able to walk clear from his right leg but after your Prayer he went back home by walking clearly.
One Woman had Stomach Pain from last 4 months but after doctors reports she has no more Stomach Problem.
One more big testimony, one person had stones in his gall bladder but after your Prayer Holy Spirit operated and no more stones!”

We Praise God for all He is doing in Pakistan! Each month we try to go to a different village and set up a projector screen for me to preach through Skype, with Pastor Rizwan interpreting for me and then he and his wife and the team follow up with ministry and discipleship.

Thank you so much, friends, for all your prayers and support that make this evangelistic part of our ministry possible!

"And this Gospel of the Kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come" (Matthew 24:14).

It’s Ok to Ask the Questions, Led to the One Who is the Answer - May 27, 2022

Morning by Morning, May 27 - It’s Ok to Ask the Questions, Led to the One Who is the Answer

Good morning, Lord Jesus. You’re here in my heart, here in my life, here in every moment of my day -- “always with (me)” (Matthew 28:20). In You, I “live and move and have (my) being” (Acts 17:28). ...

In the aftermath of massacres, in the throes of wars, in the destruction of plagues, in the scarcity of famines, in the instability of financial insecurity, in the confusion of cultural chaos, and in the insanity of the destruction of moral standards, we can begin to ask Why? and Where are You? and How long?

It's ok to ask the questions. It’s ok to express our griefs and sorrows, our frustration and disappointments. You’re big enough to handle our questions. You’re loving enough to allow us to vent out our thoughts and feelings. I’m reminded of those very kinds of expressions from the heart of David:

“How long, O Lord? Will You forget me forever?
    How long will You hide Your face from me?
How long must I bear pain in my soul
    and have sorrow in my heart all day long?
How long shall my enemy be exalted over me?
Consider and answer me, O Lord my God!
    Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep the sleep of death,
and my enemy will say, ‘I have prevailed’;
    my foes will rejoice because I am shaken” (Psalm 13:1-4).

And at the same time, I’m also reminded of how Your Spirit would lead David to turn his questions of You back to his trust in You, reminding him of Your faithfulness through every tragedy and battle and disappointment of his life, as he continued to express his heart in that same Psalm:

“But I trusted in Your steadfast love;
    my heart shall rejoice in Your salvation.
I will sing to the Lord
    because He has dealt bountifully with me” (Psalm 13:5-6).

He didn’t ignore his pain or deny his questions. But he also didn’t get stuck there. He remembered Your faithfulness in his past and embraced Your Presence in his present. In the midst of all his questions, he chose to “rejoice in Your salvation” and “sing” of Your steadfast love and bountiful mercies.

You shifted his perspective. And in the shifting, You didn’t change the facts of his world at the moment, but You did change the effect of their influence on his soul.

O my soul, with a heart like David, I choose to lift up my heart to the Lord.

O my Lord, just like You did for David, shift my perspective. Remind me of Your faithfulness, refocus me on Your Presence with me right now in the present, and reassure me You’re always with me and leading me into the unfolding fullness of Your steadfast love and bountiful mercies.

And I pray the same for all who need that heart by Your grace, that heart like David, through whatever they’re going through today. It’s ok to ask the questions, as Your Spirit leads us to the One who is the Answer. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

“No Greater Love” -- Honoring the Courageous Teachers Who Laid Down Their Lives in Uvalde - May 26, 2022

Morning by Morning, May 26 - “No Greater Love” -- Honoring the Courageous Teachers Who Laid Down Their Lives in Uvalde

Good morning, Lord Jesus. You are always with us (Matthew 28:20), never leaving us nor forsaking us (Hebrews 13:5). Thank You for being with me now and through all I’ll encounter along my journey of life in You today. ...

As the details begin to emerge from the horrific, senseless slaughter of the elementary children in Uvalde, I thank You for the expressions of love and hope and community-wide prayer that are also emerging among the people You called and positioned as Your light in the midst of the darkness (Isaiah 60:1-3; Philippians 2:15). I was moved to tears to read of the courage of two elementary school teachers who courageously stood in front of their young fourth grade students in the face of the killer. With brave hearts, they laid down their lives for sake of the children entrusted to them. And this is love. As You said, there is none greater:

“There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends” (John 15:13 NLT).

You laid down Your life for us, that with Your Spirit of Your love in our hearts, we can have the courage and bravery to lay down our lives for one another (v. 12). This morning, I honor those brave teachers of Uvalde, Texas -- Eva Mireles and Irma Garcia. And no doubt we will hear more stories of courage and bravery in the face of this evil in the days to come.

I join with all those around the world who grieve and mourn the unbearable sadness of this tragedy. And at the same time, I also pray that in the freedom to grieve and to express the anger and outrage at the evil darkness at work to “steal and kill and destroy” in our world, Your Spirit will turn grieving, angry, and hurting hearts to You, to the One who is the Source of life and love, of courage and bravery (John 10:10).

You’re the only One who can heal and restore and redeem this evil into good (Romans 8:28; Acts 3:19-21). You’re the only One who can empower us to “overcome evil with good” (Romans 12:21). As we turn to You and allow You to do that in us and through us, in Your way and in Your time -- the “sorrow and sighing” of all we endure in this broken and fallen world “shall flee away” (Isaiah 35:10). And in the end, all will know the reality of Your profound Truth:

“Love never fails” (1 Corinthians 13:8 NKJV).

Love conquers all, because “God is love, and those who abide in love abide in God, and God abides in them” (1 John 4:16). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

My friend, may you be filled with the Spirit of the One who laid down His life for you in love, that you may entrust your life to Him and be ready to lay it down in love for one another, in Jesus' name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

Grieving for the Children, Turning to the Comforter - May 25, 2022

Morning by Morning, May 25 - Grieving for the Children, Turning to the Comforter

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Put Your thoughts in my mind and Your desires in my heart, as I begin my day embraced by my Father, centered in Christ, and filled with Your Holy Spirit. ...

The families and friends, the classmates and co-workers, in the community of the little town of Uvalde, not too far down the road from my community, are still heavy on my heart this morning. I can’t fully imagine their shock and grief as the facts settle into their minds and emotions that a young man went into their elementary school and intentionally took aim to shoot and kill young children and their teacher.

As I fumble for words for prayer, the slaughter of the innocents in the days Herod murdered the children of Bethlehem seeking to silence the voice and shut down the destiny of the Messiah of Israel comes to my heart:

“Then Herod, when he saw that he had been tricked by the wise men, became furious, and he sent and killed all the male children in Bethlehem and in all that region who were two years old or under, according to the time that he had ascertained from the wise men. Then was fulfilled what was spoken by the prophet Jeremiah:

A voice was heard in Ramah,
    weeping and loud lamentation,
Rachel weeping for her children;
    she refused to be comforted, because they are no more’”
(Matthew 2:16-18).

Violence and evil are nothing new in our broken and fallen world. And neither is our desperate need for our Savior and Comforter. When we allow You to come into our crises and allow Your love to draw out our grief, even in the freedom You give us to fully express our outrage at the cruelty of wicked choices made -- whether by Herod in Israel or a deranged young killer in Texas, evil does not have to have the last word and grief does not have to define the rest of our lives. In Your time and in Your way, even all the “weeping and loud lamentation,” even hearts that “refuse to be comforted” in the time of shock and disbelief at the tragedy, can draw us to You, to the only One who can truly comfort and truly heal.

That’s my prayer for the community of Uvalde, as well as for the communities and countries around our world enduring the cruelty of evil choices made in our broken and fallen world in desperate need of a Savior. And You are our Savior. You are the One who has overcome and empowers us to ultimately overcome all that would “steal and kill and destroy” in our lives (John 10:10).

As You said to Your disciples to prepare their hearts for the tragedies and evil of the world they would endure long ago, You continue to speak to us today: “I have said these things to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). I do pray for that peace that only You can give for all who are grieving beyond comfort today. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

My friend, may you allow the One is our Savior and Comforter to embrace you and bring you through every tragedy and crises you may endure, joining in prayer for those going through it now, in Jesus' name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!
