Morning by Morning, May 26 - “No Greater Love” -- Honoring the Courageous Teachers Who Laid Down Their Lives in Uvalde
Good morning, Lord Jesus. You are always with us (Matthew 28:20), never leaving us nor forsaking us (Hebrews 13:5). Thank You for being with me now and through all I’ll encounter along my journey of life in You today. ...
As the details begin to emerge from the horrific, senseless slaughter of the elementary children in Uvalde, I thank You for the expressions of love and hope and community-wide prayer that are also emerging among the people You called and positioned as Your light in the midst of the darkness (Isaiah 60:1-3; Philippians 2:15). I was moved to tears to read of the courage of two elementary school teachers who courageously stood in front of their young fourth grade students in the face of the killer. With brave hearts, they laid down their lives for sake of the children entrusted to them. And this is love. As You said, there is none greater:
“There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends” (John 15:13 NLT).
You laid down Your life for us, that with Your Spirit of Your love in our hearts, we can have the courage and bravery to lay down our lives for one another (v. 12). This morning, I honor those brave teachers of Uvalde, Texas -- Eva Mireles and Irma Garcia. And no doubt we will hear more stories of courage and bravery in the face of this evil in the days to come.
I join with all those around the world who grieve and mourn the unbearable sadness of this tragedy. And at the same time, I also pray that in the freedom to grieve and to express the anger and outrage at the evil darkness at work to “steal and kill and destroy” in our world, Your Spirit will turn grieving, angry, and hurting hearts to You, to the One who is the Source of life and love, of courage and bravery (John 10:10).
You’re the only One who can heal and restore and redeem this evil into good (Romans 8:28; Acts 3:19-21). You’re the only One who can empower us to “overcome evil with good” (Romans 12:21). As we turn to You and allow You to do that in us and through us, in Your way and in Your time -- the “sorrow and sighing” of all we endure in this broken and fallen world “shall flee away” (Isaiah 35:10). And in the end, all will know the reality of Your profound Truth:
“Love never fails” (1 Corinthians 13:8 NKJV).
Love conquers all, because “God is love, and those who abide in love abide in God, and God abides in them” (1 John 4:16). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

My friend, may you be filled with the Spirit of the One who laid down His life for you in love, that you may entrust your life to Him and be ready to lay it down in love for one another, in Jesus' name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!
