Morning by Morning, July 18, 2025 - “Prepare the Way of the Lord” Good morning, Lord Jesus. I begin my day looking to You (Hebrews 12:2). ... “The voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord; Make straight in the desert A highway for our God. Every valley shall be exalted And every mountain and hill brought low; The crooked places shall be made straight And the rough places smooth; The glory of the Lord shall be revealed, And all flesh shall see it together; For the mouth of the Lord has spoken’” (Isaiah 40:3-5). Come, Holy Spirit. Prepare the way of the Lord here in my heart and here in my world. Make my paths straight. Wherever I need conviction, correction, redirection. Align my steps with Your Word and Your heart, as You set my feet on the path that leads into the fullness of Your will for my life. Lift up the valleys of any areas in my heart and emotions that are battle-weary or worn. Build me up from the inside out wherever I feel beaten-down or hurt. Fill the low places with Your Living Waters to flow like a river of Your Spirit in me and through me. Bring down every mountain and hill of pride—the kind of pride that asserts my own will, my own way, where I am in control instead of surrendering to Your control. Pull down every idol that I allow to exalt itself in my life with a place and priority that only You should have. Straighten up the crooked places. Whatever’s out of joint or out of alignment, come set it right again. Establish in me a desire for righteousness in You—right with God, right with others, right within myself. Rekindle the fire of the desire for holiness of heart and life in my thoughts and desires to make me more like You each day. Make the rough places smooth wherever I need to be sanded down, wherever barriers and blockages of my flesh that get in the way of Your Spirit need to be rebuffed or removed. Sanctify my tongue to be smooth and not harsh, building up and not tearing down, speaking Your words of spirit and life and not destruction and death, all in alignment with Your will and in Your ways. May Your glory be revealed. “Christ in (me), the hope of glory” (Colossians 1:27). Prepare the way of the Lord in me, that I may “Arise, shine, for (my) Light has come. And the glory of the Lord is risen upon (me)” (Isaiah 60:1). Let my flesh bow down, let my spirit arise, to see Your glory displayed as You “prepare the way of the Lord” in me. “For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.” Now let the heart of my spirit hear and trust and obey. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today. Morning by Morning, July 17, 2025 - “Narrow is the Way” Good morning, Lord Jesus. Help me begin my day embraced by my Father, centered in Christ, and filled with the Holy Spirit. ... As I wait for the leading of Your Spirit, what I hear in my heart is, “Narrow is the way.” ... Your Words come to mind from the Sermon on the Mount, as phrased in the King James Version: “Narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it” (Matthew 7:14). Your broader statement in the words of the New King James Version says it this way: “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it” (Matthew 7:13-14). Among all You meant by Your Words, I’m sure the heart of Your invitation and warning is to have our eyes on You, our hearts and minds set on You, above all else. Our relationship with You is our priority. You are “the Way” (John 14:6). You are “the Gate” (John 10:7 NIV). There’s only one Gate. There’s only one Way. The Narrow Way is a Person. And the narrow way is a way of life. Lord, give me the power of Your grace to pursue You and Your way of life. The wide gate and the broad way of this world “leads to destruction.” Your way is “difficult.” And “there are few who find it.” But Your way “leads to life.” By the warning of Your Words, only Your way “leads to life.” Let me be one of Yours who overcomes the difficulties, one of the “few” who find Your way and live out Your way. I wish that all would. But the Truth is, only a “few” will. As best as I can and all by Your grace, I deeply desire to be among those “few” as You teach me and lead me by Your Spirit into all that means. Correct me and redirect me whenever I get off Your path of life. Remind me and re-empower me to look up to You, to have my eyes on You, to follow after You, to abide in You as You abide in me, on my journey of faith through the challenges and temptations of this world (John 15:4). By Your Spirit, dwelling in my heart, imparting to me Your desires and Your ways, help me follow in Your way, the narrow Way. “For God is working in (me), giving (me) the desire and the power to do what pleases Him” (Philippians 2:13 NLT). By Your Spirit, “You show me the path of life; in Your Presence is fullness of joy” (Psalm 16:11). By the power of the grace of God, by the power of the Spirit of the Living God living in me, at work within me, I choose to enter in by the narrow Gate and continue my journey of faith along the path of the narrow Way. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today. Morning by Morning, July 16, 2025 - “Looking to Jesus” Good morning, Lord Jesus. I speak out Your name and pray in Your Spirit to begin my day centered and focused on You (Jude 1:20). ... “Looking to Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith, who for the sake of the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has taken His seat at the right hand of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12:2). In my prayers, I’m looking to You, Lord Jesus. In my thoughts and desires, in my motivations and inspirations, in my words and actions, I’m looking to You, Lord Jesus. In running my race of my journey of faith, through every challenge I’ll face, every question I’ll have, every need I’ll receive, I’m looking to You, Lord Jesus (Hebrews 12:1). You are “the Reflection of God’s glory and the Exact Imprint of God’s very Being (who) sustains all things by (Your) powerful word” (Hebrews 1:3). You are “the Image of the invisible God” (Colossians 1:15). “For in (You) the whole fullness of Deity dwells bodily” (Colossians 2:9). “No one comes to the Father except through (You)” (John 14:6). To know You is to know our Father” (John 14:7). You are “in the Father and the Father is in (You)” (John 14:11). You are One with the Father, One with the Holy Spirit (John 10:30; Romans 8:9). And somehow, in the mystery of faith and the mercy of God, You desire to be One within me and every one who will open their hearts to You and choose to live their lives looking to You (John 16:15-21). So I open my heart to You. I choose to live my life looking to You. Right now in this communion of prayer at the beginning of my day and also as I rise and go out into my day to run my race of faith You’ve set before me today to make me more like You through the challenges I’ll face, the questions I’ll have, and the needs I’ll receive (Romans 8:29). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today. Morning by Morning, July 15, 2025 - “When Christ Who Is Your Life is Revealed” Good morning, Lord Jesus. I begin my day setting my mind on You. ... “So if you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on the things that are above, not on the things that are on earth, for you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory” (Colossians 3:1-4). Christ, be my life. Christ, be revealed in my life, through my life. Put Your thoughts in my mind, Your desires in my heart, Your words in my mouth, Your action in my steps. As I speak these words of commitment, surrender, and prayer this morning, an old prayer comes to mind, attributed to Saint Patrick, the missionary evangelist to the people Ireland: Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me, Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ on my right, Christ on my left, Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit down, Christ when I arise, Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me, Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me, Christ in every eye that sees me, Christ in every ear that hears me. Yes, Lord. I agree. I can’t do any of that on my own. But You can do it all in every heart, even including me, who’s willing to let Christ be their life. As best as I can and all by Your grace, let it be so. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today.
