Morning by Morning, September 10 - Days of Awe
Good morning, Lord Jesus. As I look to You, I seek to begin my day embraced by my Father, centered in Christ, and filled with the Holy Spirit. ...
“Let all the earth fear the Lord;
let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him!” (Psalm 33:8)
On the rhythms of the Biblical calendar, these are the “Ten Days of Awe” between the New Year (Rosh Hashanah) and the Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur). And all the feasts, like all the Law and the Prophets and all of Scripture, are ultimately fulfilled in You, our Savior and Sovereign Lord, the Living Word of God (Matthew 5:17; John 1:14).
So as we remember these days on our spiritual journey, we remember their purpose. These “appointed festivals of the Lord” are times of repentance and renewed commitment, of both holy convocation and joyful celebration, in the reverent fear and awe of the Lord our God (Leviticus 23:1-44).
Even as we are awestruck by all that’s happening around us in our world right now and by the ways of the governments of our world choosing to respond and to compel us to respond, we look to You, we’re awestruck by You, we stand in awe of You. Every day is a day of awe, when we choose to live in awe of You.
Come, Holy Spirit of God. Move our hearts to turn to You, to the Lord our God, in honor and humility, in the fear of the Lord, in awe of the Lord. When others would seek to control us or when we seek to control ourselves in our own wisdom and our own strength in our own ways apart from You, move us to turn to the One who is sovereign and Lord of all (Ephesians 4:6; Acts 10:36).
You never take away our freedom, even when it breaks Your heart over the some of the choices we may make. But You call us to use our freedom to choose to trust You, to surrender to You, to allow You to be in control of our lives, to allow You to be Lord of our lives.
You still “set before (us) life and death, blessings and curses” but at the same time, You passionately call us to “choose life, so that (we) and (our) children may live and that (we) may love the Lord (our) God, listen to (You), and hold fast to (You)” (Deuteronomy 30:19-20). You send us forth in faith to enter into our Promised Land, choosing well, but free to choose (Deuteronomy 31:1-30). We can enter in to all You’ve set before us, we can go in boldly and courageously, because You are with us. You never leave us nor forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:6; Hebrews 13:5). You are with us always (Matthew 28:20).
So during these “Ten Days of Awe,” we stand in awe of You. And in every day and every way we continue to make our choices in the freedom we have in You, may we choose well. May we choose to reverence You and honor You, to trust You and serve You and follow You into all You’ve set before us. “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” (Joshua 24:14). As for me and my house -- as best as we can and all by Your grace, as far as Your grace will go -- we will honor You and stand in awe of You. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

My friend, may you be filled with awe in the reverent fear of the Lord, full of joyful expectation of all He has set before you, as you choose well in the freedom He give, in Jesus' name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!
