Morning by Morning, September 7 - Hope of Rosh Hashana - Joy in the New Year, Despite All We Endure
Good morning, Lord Jesus. Take me by the heart and lead me by Your Spirit throughout the moments of my day -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God. ...
Last night began Rosh Hashanah on the Biblical Calendar of the Feasts of God -- the Jewish New Year. According to Your Word, it’s to be marked by shouts of joy and sounding the shofar:
"With trumpets and the blast of the ram's horn -- shout for joy before the Lord, the King" (Psalm 98:6). “... A memorial proclaimed with the blast of horns, a holy convocation” (Leviticus 23:24).
With so much going on in the world, with so much taking place in the spiritual wars we battle daily, how can we take time to celebrate? How can we sound the shofar and shout for joy? ...
Only in You.... Only because the One who has overcome the world and has won every battle, all while never losing the fullness of joy, lives in us (Colossians 1:27). As Psalm 47 prophetically speaks of You, our Messiah and Savior:
“Gird Your sword on Your thigh, O Mighty One,
in Your glory and majesty.
In Your majesty ride on victoriously
for the cause of truth and to defend the right;
let Your right hand teach You dread deeds.
Your arrows are sharp
in the heart of the king’s enemies;
the peoples fall under You.
Your throne, O God, endures forever and ever.
Your royal scepter is a scepter of equity;
You love righteousness and hate wickedness.
Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You
with the oil of gladness beyond Your companions”
(Psalm 47:3-7, fulfilled in Christ, Hebrews 1:8-9).
So we will rejoice. We will return to joy, as we keep turning to You -- O Mighty One! And we celebrate the beginning of a New Year, a new season, in the unfolding of the rhythms of Your Book and Your ways in our lives.
We will trust in You and celebrate Your Presence with us through all we endure. As a great friend of ours, Brooke Barrett, recently expressed with a new song that You just wrote on her heart from Your Word:
“Though the fig tree does not blossom,
and no fruit is on the vines;
though the produce of the olive fails,
and the fields yield no food;
though the flock is cut off from the fold,
and there is no herd in the stalls,
yet I will rejoice in the Lord;
I will exult in the God of my salvation.
God, the Lord, is my strength;
He makes my feet like the feet of a deer,
and makes me tread upon the heights.
To the leader: with stringed instruments” (Habakkuk 3:17-19).
Yes, Lord. I will rejoice. I will return to joy in worship and praise and celebration of the God of my salvation -- this new year and every year, morning by morning and day by day. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
