Morning by Morning, August 15 - The "But" of the Free Gift of God's Grace
Good morning, Lord Jesus. Draw me deeper into spiritual communion with You — as I seek to begin my day embraced by my Father, centered in Christ, and filled with the Holy Spirit. …
“But the free gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died through the one man (Adam’s) trespass, much more surely have the grace of God and the gift in the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, abounded for the many. And the gift is not like the effect of the one man’s sin. For the judgment following one trespass brought condemnation, but the gift following many trespasses brings justification. If, because of the one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one, much more surely will those who receive the abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ” (Romans 5:15-17).
Thank You for the “But” of the “free gift” of God’s grace in Romans 5:15. What an expression of “the abundance of grace” we have in You. What an expression of the mercy and forgiveness and freedom from the power of sin to rule and reign in our lives we have in You through the power of Your grace for us. “Where sin abounded, grace abounded much more!” (v. 20 NKJV)
Let thanksgiving abound in my heart today, just as Your grace abounds in my heart today. It’s not a grace that condones sin, ignores sin, or turns a blind eye to sin. It’s a grace that breaks the power of sin when it’s exposed, expressed, and renounced by the power of Your grace through the power of Your blood.
“If we confess our sins, He who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). Your blood cleanses us from “all unrighteousness” — all of it, even the worst of it, even the most shameful, regretful part of it, from beginning of it to the end of it. All of it that has been passed down from the one man Adam and that we’ve allowed to enter into our own lives has been “redeemed” and forgiven and cleansed “with the precious blood of Christ” (1 Peter 1:18-19).
That’s the “But” of the “free gift” of God’s grace! But God!
Yes, my sin would separate me from God’s Presence forever — But God! Yes, the sins of my generations all the way back to the sins of the first man Adam would keep us all from the intimacy of the communion of Your Presence forever — But God!
Thank You for this “free gift” of Your grace. Thank You for the abundance of thanksgiving that’s stirring in my heart this morning for all that You are and all that You’ve done for me! God of forgiveness, God of mercy, God of grace, I’m abounding in the abundance of Your grace today! In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

My friend, may you be stirred with God's Spirit of repentance and righteousness to cry out to Him along with all His remnant that He would rain down righteousness in our hearts and our land and throughout the earth in our days, in Jesus' name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you!
