Words of Spirit and Life - August 31, 2023

 

Morning by Morning, August 31 - Words of Spirit and Life   Good morning, Lord Jesus. King of Kings and Lord of Lords, come rule and reign in my heart and my life today. ...   “(Jesus) answered and said, ‘It is written, ‘Man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God’” (Matthew 4:3).   As much as I live by the physical food You provide, I also live by the spiritual food You provide. And You provide Your spiritual food through “every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.”   Your written Words of Scripture, Your spoken words to my spirit, they are all spiritual words providing the spiritual food I need to be healthy and whole, forgiven and free, growing up every day into spiritual maturity in You. Your Spirit speaks to my spirit through Your written Words and Your spiritual words. And You give me the grace to hear them and receive them and live by them.   As You said long ago: “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life” (John 6:63).   So what could be more important than growing in the intimacy of our relationship so that I can know Your voice and hear Your words? What could be more important than hearing and trusting and obeying the words that are spirit and life to me -- both Your words written in Scripture and Your words spoken to my spirit?   Lord, guard my time to sit and listen and learn to know Your voice. As You said, “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me” (John 10:27). Guard my spirit and teach my spirit to be sensitive to Your Spirit so that I don’t follow the voice of another (John 10:5).   I thank You for every word that proceeds from the Word of God, and I also thank You for “every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” Both are essential for the vibrant, intimate, and intensely personal relationship You desire for me. So I commit my spirit to this ever-increasing depth of spiritual intimacy in relationship and daily journey with You -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today.
