“Good Stewards of the Manifold Grace of God” - December 17, 2023

 

Morning by Morning, December 17 - “Good Stewards of the Manifold Grace of God”   Good morning, Lord Jesus. Fill me with Your Spirit and lead me in Your ways throughout the moments of my day. ...   “As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God” (1 Peter 4:10).   I’m getting up early to drive down to Mexico this morning. We try to be good stewards of all You have entrusted to us. And one way is with our dental care. Since we don’t have dental insurance and since the Mexican border is so close, we get our dental work done there for about a fifth of the price. But at the same time, it takes about five times as much driving and time to get it done. But we’ve found that it’s worth it for the big issues, while we keep it local for the affordable issues.   One amazing praise to God we have found came on our first visit to the dentist in Piedras Negras, across the Rio Grande River from Eagle Pass. We asked (through the interpretation of my wife, Rocio, who speaks Spanish) why this border town felt so safe when none of the other border towns up and down the Rio Grande on the Mexican side do.   The receptionist told us why. She explained: “Well, the Mexican cartel and the violence was really bad here. But then the pastors and people from all the different churches starting to get together to pray once a week at the city square. Even the mayor of the city and the city officials began to join in with them. And one day, the cartels left; and the violence stopped. They even pulled down the altar to the spirit of Santa Muerte that many of the soldiers of the cartel worshiped. The peace of God came to our city; and it’s been like that ever since!   Yes. Praise God! We sense that peace every time we go!   So this morning, as I get up early to go cross over the River to get the work done and come back home, may I sense Your peace -- here in my heart and in that city and all along the way. That kind of peace that surpasses understanding is a peace that only You can bring (Philippians 4:7). For You are our “Prince of Peace” -- our “Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” -- the “Child” who was “born” and the “Son” who was “given” that “of the increase of (Your) government and peace there will be no end” (Isaiah 9:6-7). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today.
