Spiritual Encounters of “Good Tidings of Great Joy!” - December 20, 2023

 

Morning by Morning, December 20 - Spiritual Encounters of “Good Tidings of Great Joy!”   Good morning, Lord Jesus. Fill me with Your Spirit and lead me in Your ways throughout the moments of my day. ...   “Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger” (Luke 2:8-12).   Not only were Mary and Joseph greeted by an angel of the Lord in a spiritual encounter that would forever change their lives, so were the shepherds. One moment they were “living in the fields, keeping watch over their flock” and the next moment they were having a spiritual encounter with “an angel of the Lord.”   Their first response was fear. But their hearts were soon turned to joy with the angel’s “good tidings of great joy!” It was the joy of the birth of their Savior! And in joy they were moved in their hearts to go and see this Savior who was born in Bethlehem as “a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger” (v. 15).   Prepare our hearts for spiritual encounters with You. Turn our fears into joy by Your Spirit. The joy of the Lord is a manifestation of the Spirit of God. “For the Kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit” (Romans 14:17).   Savior of the World, Savior of my soul, fill my heart with joy as you set me free from fear and fill me with Your Spirit in the spiritual encounters I can have with You now and throughout the moments of my day. For now, You are with me always (Matthew 28:20), for Your Spirit abides within me always (Romans 8:9; John 15:4). You always give Your angels “charge over (me)” that I can constantly live in a spiritual encounter with You (Psalm 91:11).   The salvation of my soul and the ever-abiding Presence of God -- these are truly “good tidings of great joy!” In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today.
