Morning by Morning, December 14 - The Blessing of Believing Good morning, Lord Jesus. Be at the center of my heart and the forefront of my mind, as I watch and wait for the leading of Your Spirit. ... “Now Mary arose in those days and went into the hill country with haste, to a city of Judah, and entered the house of Zacharias and greeted Elizabeth. And it happened, when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, that the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. Then she spoke out with a loud voice and said, ‘Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! But why is this granted to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For indeed, as soon as the voice of your greeting sounded in my ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy. Blessed is she who believed, for there will be a fulfillment of those things which were told her from the Lord’” (Luke 1:39-45). Mary believed and she was blessed. “Blessed is she who believed” (v. 45). Mary believed and Elizabeth was blessed, the baby in Elizabeth’s womb was blessed, and “the fruit of (Mary’s) womb” was blessed (v. 42). Thank You for the blessing of believing. You give us the faith to believe, but we must choose to believe. As You would later say, after coming forth from Mary’s womb and walking this earth to reveal the heart of our Father for us and our world, “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me” (John 14:1). “Do not be unbelieving, but believing” (John 20:27). As Your Word says, “He who believes in (You) is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God” (John 3:18). “Without faith it is impossible to please (God), for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him” (Hebrews 11:6). Then, as we believe, You fill us with a passion to go and share our faith and hope with all who need to know You and Your love, encouraging them with the heart and hope of Your early disciples, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved--you and your household” (Acts 16:31). So by the power of Your grace, by the gift of faith, I do believe; I do choose to believe. I believe in You. I trust in You. From the depths of my spirit -- like the baby in Elizabeth’s womb at Mary’s greeting -- I leap for joy in Your Presence and open my heart in faith to be “filled with the Holy Spirit” afresh in every encounter with You (Luke 1:41; Ephesians 5:18). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
