Morning by Morning, December 29 - Hearts Prepared with Hope Good morning, Lord Jesus. Be at the center of my heart and in the middle of every moment of my day. ... As I wait for Your leading, I hear in my heart, “Let your heart be prepared with hope. Let your hope be grounded in the awareness of My Presence, with you now and with you always.” ... Yes, Lord. I sense that part of what You are saying to me this morning is to risk hoping, to allow You to prepare my heart with hope. As we’re drawing near to the new year, it’s always a time for me of hoping for more of Your good things in my life, more of Your good plans in our world. But when I look at our world or read the news or listen to what’s happening in the lives of people around me and even relationships around the world, having hope can be a challenge. Yet, in the midst of it all, there’s still a hope in my heart that won’t sit back or hold back, but that wants to arise with that same expectant faith of good to come. The ”good” to come is You. You are the Good to come. My primary focus is not to be on the things to come or the events to come. My primary focus is to be on You and Your Presence with me no matter what things may come or events may come -- whether good, bad, or indifferent. This familiar Word from Your Scripture comes to mind as I pray: “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. And where I go you know, and the way you know” (John 14:1-4). We normally think of Your Words as being Words for when we die so we can go Heaven and have our mansion and be with You forever in the place You’ve prepared for us there. Thank You for that, but that’s not only a Word for then but also a Word for now. It’s not only a Word of hope for the days to come at the end of our lives, but it’s also a Word of hope for the days at hand for our lives today. For the kingdom of heaven is at hand. You’ve already gone to prepare a place for us. And that place is not just in heaven for when we die, it’s also for having heaven in our hearts now. It’s also for being fully aware of Your Presence with us right now in the place You’ve prepared in our hearts here on earth, just as the place You’ve prepared for us in heaven. You are with us always (Matthew 28:20). That gives me hope. That give me the courage to risk hoping with expectant faith. The plans You have for me are good (Jeremiah 29:11). And those plans are set before me -- not only that I can go to heaven when I die, but that I can have heaven in my heart right now and in every moment between this day and that day to come. This is the good place You’ve prepared for me; this is the good plan You have for me. And as I believe in You, risking to hope in You with that awareness of Your ever-abiding Presence with me now and through all that is to come -- good, bad, or indifferent -- I let not my heart be troubled. And I look forward with expectant faith for all that is to come, all the “Good” to come, believing in God and believing also in You. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
