Morning by Morning, December 22 - Sudden Explosion of Joy! Good morning, Lord Jesus. In anticipation and expectation, I look and listen for Your leading to begin my day embraced by my Father, centered in Christ, and filled with the Holy Spirit. ... “And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: ‘Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!’ “So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, ‘Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.’ And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger. Now when they had seen Him, they made widely known the saying which was told them concerning this Child. And all those who heard it marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds. But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart. Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told them” (Luke 2:13-20). In pondering this part of the Christmas story this morning, I’m struck by the word “suddenly.” ... “Suddenly” the sky was full of angels. What a sudden explosion of light that must have been! What a sudden explosion of worship and praise to God! What a sudden explosion of hope for humanity! What a sudden explosion of joy! The angels first sang of glory to God -- “Glory to God in the highest!” Then they sang of hope to humanity -- “And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” (v. 14) What a prophetic picture of this spiritual principle: When we lift up our praises to God, our hearts are filled with hope. When we give glory to God, the peace of God fills our hearts. “You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You. Trust in the Lord forever, For in Yah, the Lord, is everlasting strength” (Isaiah 26:3-4). As we draw near to Christmas, to the day of celebration of Your birth, fill our hearts with anticipation, with expectation. Let there be a new and fresh explosion of hope, even an explosion of joy in our hearts, as we give You our praise and pray Your peace for our world. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
