Morning by Morning, October 15, 2026 — “Conscious Communion”
Good morning, Lord Jesus. Let Your Spirit arise in my spirit, as I seek to begin my day in conscious communion with You. …
“But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you” (Romans 8:9-11).
I’m always in communion with You. As You said, “I am with you always” (Matthew 28:20).
But, at the same time, I also have to admit I’m not always in conscious communion with You. Sometimes it’s more like subconscious communion with You or even unconscious communion with You. Because sometimes I forget. And if I’d really be honest, there have even been times when I have consciously tried to run away or push away from You. As if that were possible. And as if that made any sense.
But here’s the truth David came to understand and express in Your Word long ago in Psalm 139:
“O Lord, You have searched me and known me. You know my sitting down and my rising up;
You understand my thought afar off. You comprehend my path and my lying down,
And are acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word on my tongue,
But behold, O Lord, You know it altogether. You have hedged me behind and before,
And laid Your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
It is high, I cannot attain it.
“Where can I go from Your Spirit?
Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend into heaven, You are there;
If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the morning,
And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, Even there Your hand shall lead me,
And Your right hand shall hold me. If I say, “Surely the darkness shall fall on me,”
Even the night shall be light about me; Indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You,
But the night shines as the day;
The darkness and the light are both alike to You.
“For You formed my inward parts;
You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Marvelous are Your works,
And that my soul knows very well. My frame was not hidden from You,
When I was made in secret,
And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed.
And in Your book they all were written,
The days fashioned for me,
When as yet there were none of them.
“How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God!
How great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand;
When I awake, I am still with You” (Psalm 139:1-18).
Yes, Lord. “When I awake, I am still with You.” And You are still with me—in every waking moment, in every sleeping moment, in each and every moment throughout all the moments of my day. So let me be more deliberate, more intentional, more consciously aware of Your constant communion with me.
And now: “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with (us) all” (2 Corinthians 13:14). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
