“My Redeemer Lives” - May 6, 2024

 

Morning by Morning, May 6 - “My Redeemer Lives”   Good morning, Lord Jesus. Be at the center of all I am and all I do, with me always in every moment of every day. ...   “For I know that my Redeemer lives, and He will stand at last on the earth” (Job 19:25).   You are my Redeemer.   You’re the One who causes all things to work together for good for me, as You keep giving me the grace to keep trusting in You. You’re the One who turns it all around and sets all things right--all in Your time and all in Your way--as I keep entrusting all things to You.   Even what was intended for evil, You turn it for good. Even what was hard and painful and challenging, You use it for Your purposes of changing me and conforming me into all You have for me. You don’t waste a moment of my sufferings. You don’t miss an opportunity to teach me how to learn to love, how to learn to trust, how to learn to rest in You and Your plans for me.   As I keep turning to You, keep trusting in You, there’s no sin You can’t forgive, no hurt You can’t heal, no chain You can’t break, no wall You can’t break through, no stronghold You can’t pull down, no life You can’t change. You can redeem it all.   You are my Redeemer. And I know my Redeemer lives. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today. “One Body” Moved to Pray with “One Heart and One Soul” in Our Communities for Our Nation and Our World - May 3, 2024

 

Morning by Morning, May 3 - “One Body” Moved to Pray with “One Heart and One Soul” in Our Communities for Our Nation and Our World   Good morning, Lord Jesus. As You took time to get away for prayer when You walked this earth, so I take time to get away for prayer with You now--for prayer brings me into communion with You--Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God (Mark 1:35). ...   Yesterday, I joined a gathering for the National Day of Prayer out in the park at the center of our community to bow our hearts before You and lift up our voices to You. We came from different churches and different expressions of our Christian faith, but we were united in one Spirit in our prayer for our nation and community. We humbled ourselves to say we don’t know how to pray, but Your Spirit does, as You moved and interceded through us as Your church in our community (Romans 8:26-27).   “For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ. For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body--whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free--and have all been made to drink of one Spirit. For in fact the body is not one member but many” (1 Corinthians 12:112-14).   As much as Your Word speaks of the “many members” of “one body” in any particular local church, Your Word also speaks of the “many members” of “one body” of the city-wide church, the nation-wide church, the world-wide church. For we are one body in our world, throughout all our generations--past, present, and future. Together as one, we are “the body of Christ” (1 Corinthians 12:27)   “There is one body and one Spirit, just as (we) were called in one hope of (our) calling; one Lord, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in (us) all” (Ephesians 4:4-6).   Unite us in You, Lord. Free us from division, strife, jealousy, competition, criticism, judgment, resentment, self-righteousness, spiritual pride and arrogance, spiritual confusion and deception, and everything else that would seek to divide us instead of unite us with one heart for You--secure in our identity in You and fulfilling our destiny in You as Your body in our world.   Fill us afresh with Your Holy Spirit! (Ephesians 5:18). Move through us again in the power of Your love that displays Your glory through Your body in our hearts, our communities, and our world. In the unity of Your people, You command Your blessing--“Life forever more!” (Psalm 133:1-3).   As it was in the beginning of Your church, let it be ever more so in our day:   “And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness. Now the multitude of those who believed were of one heart and one soul; neither did anyone say that any of the things he possessed was his own, but they had all things in common. And with great power the apostles gave witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And great grace was upon them all” (Acts 4:31-33).   Show us what that is to look like in our day, in our hearts, in our land, in our world. Unite us together as one in the Spirit and one in the Lord, that You may move in Your reviving, awakening power and love with “great power” and “great grace” in our day! We need You just as much today as ever. For You are same today as You were in the beginning of Your church--“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever!” (Hebrews 13:8). Come do it again, Lord Jesus--Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God--here in us, here in our community, our nation, our world! In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today. “Unfailing Love” of God - May 2, 2024

 

Morning by Morning, May 2 - “Unfailing Love” of God   Good morning, Lord Jesus. Put Your thoughts in my mind and Your desires in my heart, as I seek Your face and listen for the leading of Your voice (John 10:27). ...   The Word of the Lord through the Prophet Hosea comes to mind this morning:   “Therefore, I am now going to allure her; I will lead her into the wilderness and speak tenderly to her” (Hosea 2:14).   You were speaking of Your unfailing love. Even though Your people had rejected Your love and compromised their faith and even though they had turned to false gods and false idols instead of turning to You, You still loved them. You still pursued them. You even brought them into a place of “wilderness” through what they would suffer as the consequences of their choices so they could hear You “speak tenderly” to their hearts, so they could turn their hearts to You again.   Much of the Book of this prophet is about Your calling to Hosea to be faithful and steadfast in unfailing love for his unfaithful wife as a prophetic picture of Your mercy and love for Your people. Despite the actions of Hosea’s wife and despite the actions of Your people, You always offered them “a door of hope” if they would return to You (Hosea 2:15).   You said to Your people there would come a day of redemption and restoration, of forgiveness and mercy, despite all their sin and rebellion--not because they deserved it, but because You loved them and never stopped loving them no matter what. You said:   “I will make you My wife forever,     showing you righteousness and justice,     unfailing love and compassion. I will be faithful to you and make you Mine,     and you will finally know Me as the Lord” (Hosea 2:19-20 NLT).   And these are Your words of unfailing love for every one of us, drawing us into Your heart and covenant of love for each of us. These are Your words for everyone whom You put on our hearts in our lives, praying they would come to know Your unfailing love for each of us--“For God so loved the world ...” (John 3:16).   Keep turning my heart to You, Lord. Keep showing me Your “unfailing love and compassion,” when I don’t deserve it or fail to appreciate it. And I pray the same for the hearts of those I know who are running away from You, who are resisting You, who question and doubt You, who have not yet come to fully know You and Your “unfailing love and compassion” for them.   “Let Your unfailing love surround us, Lord, for our hope is in You alone” (Psalm 33:22). “Your unfailing love, O Lord, is as vast as the heavens; Your faithfulness reaches beyond the clouds” (Psalm 36:5). “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness” (Lamentations 3:22-23). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today. Alive in Christ by the Spirit of Christ in Us - May 1, 2024

 

Morning by Morning, May 1 - Alive in Christ by the Spirit of Christ in Us   Good morning, Lord Jesus. Take me by the heart and lead me by Your Spirit into all You have for me today--Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God. “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God” (Romans 8:14). ...   “But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you” (Romans 8:9-11).   By Your mercy and love, by the power of Your grace and compassion of Your will that all who would turn to You and trust in You would be saved in You, I do know I “have the Spirit of Christ” living in me (v. 9). “Indeed the Spirit of God dwells in (me)” (v. 9). “The Spirit of Him who raised Christ from the dead dwells in (me)” (v. 11).   Lord, let these Truths be sealed in my spirit and confirmed in the mind of my soul. Help me see You and see myself with Your Spiritual perspective--now and as I go through the moments and challenges and opportunities of my day. As I mediate on Your Word and welcome Your Spirit to bring Your Word to life in me now, I’m looking at how The Message version of this Scripture brings these Words to life:   “But if God Himself has taken up residence in your life, you can hardly be thinking more of yourself than of Him. Anyone, of course, who has not welcomed this invisible but clearly present God, the Spirit of Christ, won’t know what we’re talking about. But for you who welcome Him, in whom He dwells--even though you still experience all the limitations of sin--you yourself experience life on God’s terms. It stands to reason, doesn’t it, that if the alive-and-present God who raised Jesus from the dead moves into your life, He’ll do the same thing in you that he did in Jesus, bringing you alive to Himself? When God lives and breathes in you (and He does, as surely as He did in Jesus), you are delivered from that dead life. With His Spirit living in you, your body will be as alive as Christ’s!” (Romans 8:9-11 The Message).   I’m alive in Christ! For the Spirit of Christ lives in me and everyone who has put their faith and hope and trust in You--Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God. And I receive Your invitation and the power of Your grace to live out this day and all of my life from Your perspective of Spirit and Truth. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today. How To Dwell in “The Secret Place” and “Abide Under the Shadow of the Almighty” - April 30, 2024

 

Morning by Morning, April 30 - How To Dwell in “The Secret Place” and “Abide Under the Shadow of the Almighty”   Good morning, Lord Jesus. Be at the center of my heart and in the middle of every moment of my day. ...   “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust’” (Psalm 91:1-2).   Show me how to dwell in Your secret place. Teach me how to abide under Your shadow. Help me believe undoubtedly and to know unwaveringly that You are my Refuge and my Fortress, my God in whom I trust. ...   As I wait for the leading of Your Holy Spirit to bring Your Word to life to me today, these words come into my spirit and rise up to my mind:   “Ask and you will receive. Seek and you will find. Knock and the door will be opened to you.” ...   Yes, Lord. I know these words. I haven’t read them in a while, but as I search for them in Your Word, I find them in the Gospel of Matthew:   “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened” (Matthew 7:7-8).   And these words are followed by words to encourage me not to doubt that You hear, not to doubt that You answer, but to trust that it is Your will and Your heart for me to ask and receive, to seek and find, to knock and see that the door will be opened:   “Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or is he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent. If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him” (Matthew 7:9-12).   These are Your Words, Lord Jesus. And what comes to me as Your Spirit is speaking Your Words into my spirit this morning is this:   “It’s good for you to ask. It’s good for you to pursue. It’s good for you to be expectant of My answer as you press into My Presence. I look at the heart. And for those who are hungry for Me and My Presence in their hearts, I embrace you and cover you and surround you in the love and power and shelter of My Presence. This is the secret place of My Presence. This is the shadow of the Almighty. This is how you allow Me to be your Refuge and your Fortress, as you trust in Me as your God.” ...   Yes, Lord. Another Word from Your Scripture comes immediately to mind to confirm what I believe is Your word in my heart:   “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled” (Matthew 5:6). And now this: “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you” (Matthew 6:33).   I choose to receive this gift of Your grace. And by the power of Your grace, I choose to embrace this attitude of my heart, this perspective of my spirit, that I believe You’re speaking to me. These are keys of the kingdom of God, a means of Your grace, a way that leads to life in You--day by day, morning by morning, moment by moment--in my deeply personal relationship with You, as I consciously choose to abide in You and consciously choose to allow you to abide in me.   Lord, let it be so in me now and throughout the moments of my day--this day and every day. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today. In the love of Jesus, Tommy Hays My friend, may you dwell in the Secret Place and abide in the Shelter of the Almighty, choosing this attitude of your heart and perspective of your spirit, abiding in the Lord as He abides in you, in Jesus' name.
