Morning by Morning, July 1 - A Revolution in These Days of Revelation Good morning, Lord Jesus. I speak out Your name as I set out on my day, looking to You and trusting in You. ... As we approach the day of July 4th, when our naation celebrates the revolution that freed our nation, I’m thinking of another revolution to come that’s prophesied in Your Word of the nations of our world: “The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever!” (Revelation 11:15) If we are not already, soon we will surely be entering into the days of Revelation it would seem. Some days we look around and we seem to see the word of the Prophet Isaiah being fulfilled before our very eyes: “We look for Light, but there is darkness.... Justice is turned back, And righteousness stands afar off; For truth is fallen in the street, And equity cannot enter. So truth fails, And he who departs from evil makes himself a prey.” (Isaiah 59:9, 14-15). Challenging days. Gut-wrenching days. But also opportunities for God-glorifying days at the same time. No matter how dark it may seem or how dark it may get among the nations of this world, You will always have Your Light shining forth in the midst of it all. You will always have Your remnant of Your people in the midst of it all. Your Light shining in our world, Your Light shining in us, Your Light shining through us. You said, “I AM the Light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the Light of Life” (John 8:12). And because You are in us and we are in You, You also said to us as Your followers, Your disciples, “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:14-16). With You in us and us in You, we are “salt” and “light” in our world--now and in whatever days of Revelation to come (Matthew 5:13-14). In the days of the Prophesy of Isaiah, he wrote: “Then the Lord saw it, and it displeased Him That there was no justice. He saw that there was no man, And wondered that there was no intercessor; Therefore His own arm brought salvation for Him; And His own righteousness, it sustained Him. For He put on righteousness as a breastplate, And a helmet of salvation on His head; He put on the garments of vengeance for clothing, And was clad with zeal as a cloak!” (Isaiah 59:15-17) Lord, You are the Revolution! Look and see that in our day, in our nation, in our world, we are Your intercessors, a remnant of Your people, ready to intervene as You clothe us with Your zeal and fill us with Your Spirit! We need a revolution in these days of Revelation. We need a spiritual revolution in our hearts, a spiritual revolution in our land, a spiritual revolution in the nations of our world until the nations and kingdoms of our world have become the kingdoms of our God! A “revolution” is a turning around. A spiritual “revolution” is a turning of our hearts away from our sin and toward our God, a turning away from a focus on ourselves and a focus on You, a turning away from the world and the flesh and the devil and turning toward Your will and Your ways. A spiritual “revolution” is a turning of our world upside down until it’s right side up again--starting right here, right now in our own hearts first--until it’s said of us in our generation what was said of Your followers, Your disciples in the first generation of this age: “These who have turned the world upside down have come here too!” (Acts 17:6). We can’t do any of that in our power or our wisdom, but only through You alone. Apart from You we can do nothing (John 15:5). But Praise God that we are not apart from You, that You are right here with us, right here, right now within us by Your Spirit (Romans 8:9). “Christ in (us), the hope of glory!” (Colossians 1:27) So come, Holy Spirit--Spirit of the Living God--Spirit of Christ in us! We need a revolution in these days of Revelation! Darkness cannot overcome the Light (John 1:5). And by the power of Your mercy and grace, You have delivered us out of the kingdom of darkness and into the kingdom of Your marvelous Light (1 Peter 2:9). So let the Promise of the Prophesy of Your Word be fulfilled in us--now in these days and throughout whatever days may come: “Arise, shine; For your Light has come! And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you. For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, And deep darkness the people; But the Lord will arise over you, And His glory will be seen upon you!” (Isaiah 60:1-2) In the words of the Battle Hymn of the Republic, “Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord! ... Glory, glory, hallelujah! His Truth is marching on!” Let the revolution begin! In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
