“A Temple of the Holy Spirit within You” - July 21, 2021

Morning by Morning, July 21 - “A Temple of the Holy Spirit within You” Good morning, Lord Jesus. You’re One with the Father, One with the Holy Spirit. I welcome You here in my heart and my day to be One with me today, for “he who is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with Him” (1 Corinthians 6:17). ... “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God with your body” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). Holy Spirit of the Living God, come fill Your temple. My heart, my body, my life belong to You. May You alone be exalted, worshipped, and praised in this temple -- You, not me; Your will, not mine. Reveal and remove any idols I’ve built or idols I give the place that only You deserve. Pull them down and cast them out. Maybe they’re not idols of wood or stone, crystal or gold, but maybe idols of pride in my own wisdom apart from Your wisdom, my own power apart from Your power, my own ways apart from Your ways. So by the power of Your grace and the authority of Your name, I renounce those idols and pull them down from their place and cast them out of my life in Jesus’ name. Come replace them with Your Presence of Your Spirit abiding in me, filling the temple of my heart with Your glory, not my own vain-glory. Even as I say this and pray this, I realize how much more You still need to do in me to make me more like You. I realize how much more I must decrease and You must increase (John 3:30). But You are faithful and You will bring to completion the good work You have begun in me (Philippians 1:6).  Come have Your way in me, as I yield my way to get out of the way of Your way in me today. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today! A Wise Heart, Discerning Time and Judgment - July 20, 2021

 

Morning by Morning, July 20 - A Wise Heart, Discerning Time and Judgment Good morning, Lord Jesus. I speak out Your name and listen for Your voice, as I seek to begin my day embraced by my Father, centered in Christ, and filled with the Holy Spirit. ... “A wise man’s heart discerns both time and judgment” (Ecclesiastes 8:5). Make my heart wise, Lord. Put Your desires in my heart and Your thoughts in my mind. Thank You for taking away my “heart of stone” and giving me a “heart of flesh” with a “new heart” and a “new spirit” that’s sensitive to Your leading, embracing of Your intimacy, and obedient to Your command (Ezekiel 36:26). With Your wisdom in my heart, help me discern “both time and judgment.” For now is the time to allow You to judge our hearts in Your mercy and love that cleanses our sins, heals our wounds, and breaks our chains to set us free to be all You created us and called us to be in You. “For it is time for judgment to begin at the household of God; and if it begins with us, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God?” (1 Peter 4:17) As Your Word speaks of both time and judgment: “Therefore do not go on passing judgment before the time, but wait until the Lord comes who will both bring to light the things hidden in the darkness and disclose the motives of men’s hearts; and then each man’s praise will come to him from God” (1 Corinthians 4:5). This is wisdom -- that I would allow Your Spirit to search my heart to bring to light anything hidden in darkness so I can be free and filled with the light of the glory of Your manifest presence in me. And this is discernment -- that I would not hold back from Your grace or hide away from Your gaze, for it’s Your mercy to reveal to me and remove from me everything in me that’s not yet like You.  That’s how Your “mercy triumphs over judgment” (James 2:13), when Your judgment leads me to Your mercy and freedom through the gift of repentance and grace (1 John 1:9).  That’s Your “wisdom from above” that is “pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere” that produces “a harvest of righteousness” in me (James 3:17-18). I’m righteous in You because the Righteous One lives in me, making me more like You each day. “For God is working in (me), giving (me) the desire the power to do what pleases Him” (Philippians 2:13). Come have Your way in me, today, my Lord and Savior. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today! The Same Power of the Holy Spirit! - July 19, 2021

 

Morning by Morning, July 19 - The Same Power of the Holy Spirit! Good morning, Lord Jesus. I welcome You here in my heart and every moment of my day -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God. ... “But if Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness. If the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will give life to your mortal bodies also through His Spirit that dwells in you” (Romans 8:10-11). Father God, You sent Your Holy Spirit to raise Jesus from the dead. And now that same Holy Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead lives in us! That’s not new revelation. That’s eternal Truth.  And at the same, You’re stirring up a new awakening of that eternal Truth in our mortal bodies. You’re stirring up new life with fresh Breath in our spiritual lungs! With fresh faith in You and who You say we are in You and who You are in us, You’re sending a fresh Wind with a fresh Fire of the Holy Spirit. You’re breathing fresh Life into the Body of Christ. You’re sending fresh revelation of just what that means that the same Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead lives in us! The same way You moved by Your Spirit to turn the world upside down in the first move of Your Spirit in this age of Pentecost (Acts 17:6), You’re now moving again in greater power and authority through Your people than the world has ever known! Salvation of hearts, sanctification of souls, healing of bodies, freedom from all that would hold us back from being all You created us to be -- even the discipling of nations despite the greatest onslaught of demonic opposition! The Word of Your Command and Commission are coming to pass in ever-increasing measures of Your grace and glory in Your power: “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age!” (Matthew 28:19-20) Come Holy Spirit! You are “the Spirit of Christ” (Romans 8:9) -- Christ with us and Christ within us! “Christ in (us), the hope of glory” (Colossians 1:27) -- Your glory, Your grace, Your power, Your authority -- being displayed in us and through us, as You turn our world upside down again! We’ve heard it. We’ve believed it, at least in a measure. But now You’re empowering us by Your Spirit to believe it and live it in a greater measure than ever before! You are growing us up “to maturity, to the measure of the full stature of Christ” we are created and called to be in our true identity in You! (Ephesians 4:13) And not a moment too soon! In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today! “Baptize (Us) with the Holy Spirit and Fire!” - July 13, 2021

 

Morning by Morning, July 13 - “Baptize (Us) with the Holy Spirit and Fire!” Good morning, Lord Jesus. Make me more like You today. ... “As the people were filled with expectation, and all were questioning in their hearts concerning John (the Baptist), whether he might be the Messiah, John answered all of them by saying, ‘I baptize you with water; but One who is more powerful than I is coming; I am not worthy to untie the thong of His sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing fork is in His hand, to clear His threshing floor and to gather the wheat into His granary; but the chaff He will burn with unquenchable fire.’ So, with many other exhortations, he proclaimed the good news to the people” (Luke 3:15-18). Lord Jesus, You’re the “One who is more powerful.” You’re the One who comes to “baptize (us) with the Holy Spirit and fire.” You’re the One who winnows out the wheat from the chaff in our souls to “burn with unquenchable fire” as that’s within us that’s not yet like You. This is “good news” for all who have ears to hear. This is good news for all who are “filled with expectation.” You’re the One who is our “Messiah,” our Christ, our anointed One who saves our spirits and sanctifies our souls, as You purify us in the Refiner’s Fire of Your Holy Spirit. That same Fire who purifies us is the same Fire who empowers us with authority in Your name to be witnesses of Your glory and good news everywhere You send us in our world -- whether across the street or to the ends of the earth.  Just as You said to Your first disciples at the end of Your first coming, You’re still speaking to us in every generation since then and to all of us who are Your disciples today on the verge of Your second coming: “After His suffering He presented Himself alive to them by many convincing proofs, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God. While stayingwith them, He ordered them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait there for the promise of the Father. ‘This,’ He said, ‘is what you have heard from Me; for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.... You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth’” (Acts 1:3-8). Holy Spirit come! Holy Fire fall! Baptize me, saturate me, immerse me, fill me and consume me! Burn out of me everything in me that’s not yet like Jesus. Set me ablaze with a passion for You -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God -- and an anointing of Your fire and power to speak out and live out Your good news everywhere You send me as Your witness today and every day! In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today! Travailing Prayer that “Christ Be Formed in You” - July 12, 2021

 

Morning by Morning, July 12 - Travailing Prayer that “Christ Be Formed in You” Good morning, Lord Jesus. I speak out Your name and listen for Your voice, for Your name is above every name (Philippians 2:9) and Your sheep hear Your voice (John 10:3). ... “My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you” (Galatians 4:19). The Apostle Paul’s prayer and passion for Your disciples at Galatia was so intense it was like the travail of birth pangs. I’ve never given birth, but I’ve seen it five times. My job was to help with the coaching of the breathing, which seemed kind of like trying to put out a raging inferno with a water pistol. I can’t even imagine going through that kind of intensity, like women experience around this planet every day. Intense, out-of-control pressure and pain, wave after wave, increasing in intensity and trauma until the miraculous release and relief of birth. I praise God that I am a man!  (I have had three kidney stones, which a doctor expressed once that it’s a comparable experience to child birth, but I have found this comment to be unwelcome and unwise to share with those who have experienced the real thing! Someone else has said it’s more like trying to stretch your bottom lip up over your head. Once again, I praise God that I am a man!) But this morning, I’m thanking You for those who have travailed in prayer for me -- for my salvation, for my healing and freedom in Christ, for my provision and fulfilment of my purpose. But most of all, I’m thanking You for those who travailed in prayer for Christ to be formed in me -- for Your character to be formed into my character, for Your thoughts to be formed into my thoughts, for Your desires to be formed into my desires, for Your ways to be formed into my ways.  Salvation, healing, freedom, identity, destiny -- they are all crucial and critical; but ultimately, You’ve created me and called me to be conformed into the image of the Son of God, as I go through the journey of my life in this limited time I have on this side of heaven and this season of eternity (Romans 8:29 and 12:2; 2 Corinthians 3:18). “For this is the will of God, (my) sanctification” (1 Thessalonians 4:3). As You are, so am I to become (1 John 4:17; Matthew 5:48; 1 Peter 1:16). Of course, I can’t do any of that on my own. Apart from You, I can do nothing (John 15:5). You have to give me both the desire and the power to grow in grace and be conformed in Your character by Your Spirit at work in my mind and my heart to make me more like You each day (Philippians 2:13). So I desperately need those desperate, travailing prayers of those You’ve called by Your Spirit to persevere in intense intercession for me like a fiercely loving mother in the pangs of birth for her child. Some of their faces are coming to mind right now. And I don’t have words to express how thankful I am to You and to them. And at the same time, I’m humbly aware there are many others who pray for me in ways I can’t imagine and can never earn and never repay, who are moved by Your Spirit to press in and pray through on my behalf. The same is true for every one of Your children, because that’s an expression of the Father heart of God. Lord, give me the grace to do the same -- to pray with intensity and purpose for those You’ve placed on my heart and for those entrusted to my care, even for every one of those who read these words I try to express from Your heart to mine, morning by morning each day. Freely I’ve received; freely may I give (Matthew 10:8). By the power of Your grace at work within me, may I sow what I have reaped, that I may reap what I have sown, all because of what You’ve sown into me through the travailing prayers of so many who accepted Your invitation and obeyed Your leading (Galatians 6:7-9). Great is their reward (Matthew 6:6). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today!
