Running My Race, Looking to Jesus - January 17, 2022

Morning by Morning, January 17 - Running My Race, Looking to Jesus Good morning, Lord Jesus. My eyes are on You, as I run my race today looking to You. ... “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, who for the sake of the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has taken His seat at the right hand of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12:1-2). As I look to You, You are changing me into Your image. You are conforming me into Your nature. You are transforming into Your character. For we become like the One we behold; we’re drawn to the nature of the One we worship; we yield to the character of the One we adore: “But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord” (2 Corinthians 3:18 NKJV). My part is to seek You, to behold You, to allow You to change me into Your image -- to be conformed into the image of the Son of God (Romans 8:29). As You are, so am I to be (1 John 4:17). You part is to do in me what only You can do. For apart from You, I can do nothing (John 15:5). And by the power of the grace of God, at work in me, abiding in me by Your Spirit, I’m never apart from You and You are never apart from me.  So if I’ll let You, by the freedom of my will surrendered to the sovereignty of Your will, You’ll keep changing me into Your image “from glory to glory.” It’s a lifelong journey, with breakthroughs all along the way on my journey with You in worship and prayer, in surrender and trust, in obedience and faith -- as best as I can and all by Your grace. Lord, give me Your grace to run my race well today, looking to You. You are my Goal, You are my Prize, becoming like You is my Finish Line. It’s a daily race and life-long journey, just as the Apostle Paul acknowledged in the humility of his heart: “Not that I have already obtained this or have already reached the goal; but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me His own. Beloved, I do not consider that I have made it my own; but this one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the heavenly call of God in Christ Jesus. Let those of us then who are mature be of the same mind... (Philippians 3:12-15). Yes, Lord. “The heavenly call of God in Christ Jesus” is to make me more like Jesus each day. Come do it in me today. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today! Relentless Love of God - January 14, 2022

 

Morning by Morning, January 14 - Relentless Love of God Good morning, Lord Jesus. Lord of my life and Lover of my soul, come lead me and love me as You will today -- O God my Father, Lord Jesus Christ, Spirit of the Living God. ... “For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38). Your love is relentless. Nothing can separate us from it. Nothing can take us from it. “The steadfast love the Lord never ceases” (Lamentations 3:22). “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life” (Psalm 23:6). Surely, “I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever” (Psalm 23:6). Even when we want to run away, even when turn aside, You pursue us. “Therefore, I will now allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak tenderly to her” (Hosea 2:14). “If we are faithless, (You) remain faithful -- for (You) cannot deny (Yourself)” (2 Timothy 2:13). You love us enough to convict us of our sins, to correct us in our hearts, just as a loving father or mother convicts and corrects their children (Hebrews 12:7). But it’s always “for our good” and always out of Your love (Hebrews 12:10). “For (You are) good; for (Your) steadfast love endures forever” (Psalm 100:5). Yes, Lord. You are a relentless God. And Your relentless love for us, Your relentless love for me, endures forever. I thank You and praise You for Your relentless love. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.  Be encouraged today! Whole-Hearted Passion and Pursuit- January 13, 2022

 

Morning by Morning, January 13 - Whole-Hearted Passion and Pursuit Good morning, Lord Jesus. Help me hear Your heart as I begin my day with You -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. ... “When you search for Me, you will find Me; if you seek Me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:13). We all know Your famous Scripture of Jeremiah 29:11 -- “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’” But we often forget the key to receiving the promises of v. 11 is in embracing the calling of v. 13 -- seeking after You will all our heart.  Give me that grace, Lord. Stir up that passion within my, Lord -- to passionately pursue with “all (my) heart.” Whole-hearted passion. Whole-hearted pursuit. That’s how You pursue me. You seek after those hearts who worship You -- who love You and passionately pursue You with all that they are and all that they have -- in spirit and truth (John 4:23).  As the deeply intimate worship song declares, “You won’t relent until You have it all. My heart is Yours.” My heart is Yours, Lord. All my heart, my whole heart, my holding-nothing-back-from-You heart. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today! “But We Do See Jesus...”- January 12, 2022

 

Morning by Morning, January 12 - “But We Do See Jesus...” Good morning, Lord Jesus. I welcome You here in my heart and every moment of my day -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God. ... “But we do see Jesus, who for a little while was made lower than the angels, now crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone” (Hebrews 2:9). We don’t yet see a world that’s free from sickness and death, sorrow and pain (from Revelation 21:4). But we do see Jesus. We don’t yet see a world where the lamb lies down with the lion, where our swords are beaten into ploughshares and our spears into pruning hoots, where nation does not lift up sword against nation, nor learn war anymore (from Isaiah 2:4). But we do see Jesus. We don’t yet see a world established in spirit and truth where justice rolls down like waters and righteousness lie a mighty stream (from Amos 5:24). But we do see Jesus. We don’t yet see a world where we go up to the mountain where You Yourself will teach us Your ways (from Micah 4:2), where we love our enemies and love one another just as You have loved us (from Matthew 5:44), where the kingdoms of this world have become the kingdom of our God and of His Christ (from Revelation 11:15). But we do see Jesus. We do see You, Lord Jesus. We see You at work in our world and at work in our hearts. We do see You as we “lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, (as we) run the race with perseverance that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, who for the sake of the joy that was set before (You), disregarding its shame, and has taken (Your) seat at the right hand of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12:1-2). Yes, Lord. We do see Jesus. We do look up to You, to pursue Your Presence, to trust in Your love and mercy and grace, to embrace Your Sacrifice on our behalf so that we could live in Heaven when we die and live with Heaven in us now.  We don’t yet see all that will be at “the time of universal restoration that God announced long ago through His holy prophets” (Acts 3:21), “the times of restoration of all things which God has spoken by the mouth of all His holy prophets since the world began” (NKJV). But right now, we do see Jesus -- the One who is “the exact imprint of God’s very being (who) sustains all things by His powerful word” (Hebrews 1:3). Give us eyes to see and hearts to believe. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today!
