Morning by Morning, August 21 - A Heart That's True

Good morning, Lord Jesus. All that I am and all that I have, I entrust to You today, O Lord, my God -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  ...

"For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the entire earth, to strengthen those whose heart is true to Him" (2 Chronicles 16:9).

I want a heart that's true -- faithful to You, thankful for You, wholeheartedly committed and surrendered to You. And when I need to be strengthened -- which is most every day in some way, whether I know it or not -- I know Your eyes are upon me and Your arms are around me and Your Spirit is within me.

By the power of Your grace, whatever I face, I know I will overcome because Your eyes are upon me and Your face is toward me. "I can do all things through Him who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13). So help me begin each day and continue through every moment of every day coming to You and resting in You "with a true heart in full assurance of faith;" and in the power of Your strength, I will "hold fast to the confession of (my) hope without wavering, for He who has promised is faithful" (Hebrews 10:22-24). In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

May the eyes of the Lord always be upon you with His arms always around you to encourage you and strengthen you, with your heart faithful and true to Him, in Jesus' name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

Morning by Morning, August 18 - Seeking the Mind of Christ

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Speak to me from Your Word, speak to be by Your Spirit, speak to me however You will, for You are my Shepherd and I am listening for Your voice.  ...

"'For who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct Him?' But we have the mind of Christ" (1 Corinthians 2:16).

Lord Jesus, I pray for the mind of Christ.

I know we all have to begin by humbly and honestly acknowledging that Your thoughts are not our thoughts and Your ways are not our ways (Isaiah 55:8). But that's just the beginning; that's not where we're to remain. We're to seek You and Your thoughts and Your ways. We're to embrace Your Spirit at work within us to change our thoughts and renew our minds (Romans 12:2). We're to seek to "come ... to maturity, to the measure of the full stature of Christ ... no longer children ... we must grow up in every way into Him who is the head, into Christ" (Ephesians 4:11-16). We're to "let the same mind be in (us) that was in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 2:5).

As I'm praying, a funny picture from my childhood is coming to mind, from growing up watching the television series Star Trek. People used to tell me I looked like Captain Kirk, so maybe I watched it a little too much! But Mr. Spock would sometimes stretch out his hand and take hold of someone's head to do "the Vulcan mind meld" so that they would be of one mind on a matter.

Lord Jesus, would You stretch out Your mighty right hand to me? (Psalm 118:15) Would You take hold of my mind. Cause my thoughts to be more like Your thoughts so that my ways will be more like Your ways. I want to me more like You (1 John 3:2). Make me more like You each day (Romans 8:29). "Make my joy complete:  (let me) be of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind" with You (Philippians 2:2). In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

I pray the Holy Spirit in you will stir in your heart to pursue the mind of Christ, in Jesus' name. May the Lord Jesus stretch out His hand and take hold of your mind today, that you may be of one mind with Him. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

Morning by Morning, August 17 - God's Will and My Freedom, My Heart in His Hands

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Let me experience Your presence, hear Your voice, and follow Your leading as I begin my day in the communion of prayer with You, my God -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  ...

"The king's heart is a stream of water in the hand of the Lord; He turns it wherever He will. All deeds are right in the sight of the doer; but the Lord weighs the heart" (Proverbs 21:1-2).

You're the sovereign Lord who rules and reigns over all, according to Your perfect plans and Your perfect will. Yet, at the same time, You've created us in Your perfect nature of love, in Your image of love, for a relationship of love. And a true relationship of love requires the freedom to love You or not, trust You or not, obey You or not.

You turn our hearts according to Your will; and at the same time, You weigh our hearts based upon the choices we make in the freedom of our hearts to love You and trust You and obey You or not. In the morning by morning, moment by moment tension of these two truths, both Your sovereignty and our freedom are just as true and just as real.

Every day, You "set before (us) life and death, blessings and cruses," inviting us "Choose life so that (we) and (our) descendants may live, loving the Lord (our) God, obeying Him, and holding fast to Him" (Deuteronomy 30:19-20). Every day, You invite us to "choose this day" whom we will serve (Joshua 24:15). And every day You remind us "Those who love Me will keep My word, and My Father will love them, and We will come to them and make our Home with them" (John 14:23). "If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love. I have said these things to you so that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete. This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have love you" (John 15:10-12).

So as best as I can and all by Your grace, I entrust my heart into Your hands today. I willingly choose to open my heart to Your desires, according to Your plan and Your will for my life this day. Move in my heart by Your Spirit to cause me to desire and to do what is right and pleasing to You. Empower me to love You and obey You in the freedom I have in Your sovereign will for my life. "For it is God who is at work in (me), enabling (me) both to will and to work for His good pleasure" (Philippians 2:13). In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

May the Holy Spirit stir in your human spirit to put your heart in God's hands today to love Him and trust Him and obey Him as best as you can and all by His grace, in Jesus' name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

Morning by Morning, August 14 - Come in, King of Glory!

Good morning, Lord Jesus. I commit my life and this day into Your hands.  ...

"Lift up your heads, O gates! and be lifted up, O ancient doors! that the King of glory may come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord, strong and mighty, the Lord, mighty in battle. Lift up your heads, O gates! and be lifted up, O ancient doors! that the King of glory may come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, He is the King of glory" (Psalm 24:7-10).

King of glory, I lift up the gate of my spirit. I open wide the door of my heart -- that You may come in. Come with Your host of heaven, Your mighty warring angels. Come with Your Holy Spirit, You abiding and intimate and powerful Presence. Come strong and mighty to overcome and conquer everything in me that's not yet like You.

You are the King of glory. You are the "King of kings and Lord of lords" (Revelation 19:16). You are my King, my Lord, and my Savior. You are mighty and strong, triumphant and true, here in my heart and every moment of my day. And because You are mighty in me, I am more than a conqueror in You! (Romans 8:37) In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

May you lift up your spirit and open up your heart, that the King of glory may come in and empower you as more than a conqueror today. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

Morning by Morning, August 13 - "Seek His Face"

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Put Your thoughts in my mind and Your prayers in my heart, as I begin my day seeking Your face.  ...

"'Come,' my heart says, 'seek His face!' Your face, Lord, do I seek" (Psalm 27:6).

As I seek Your face in worship and prayer, in trust and surrender, in passionate pursuit of the One who pursues my passions, You embrace me and call me to pursue You even more passionately still until You are the One Thing I desire most. "One thing I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after:  to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in His temple" (Psalm 27:4).

Increase that passion in me. Increase that hunger in me. "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled" (Matthew 5:6). Fill me afresh with Your Spirit today. Fill me afresh with a holy passion to pursue You above all else. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

Morning by Morning, August 12 - "With Great Boldness"

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Speak to my heart; awaken my spirit to come alive in Christ today.  ...

"Since, then, we have such a hope, we act with great boldness" (2 Corinthians 3:12).

My hope is not in fairy tales or false religion. My hope is not in my self or man's ways. My hope is in You. You are my God and You love me and You have a plan to express Your love and Your nature through me. So empower me in this hope that I have to "be strong and bold," to "have no fear or dread" of anything less that all You have for me "because it is the Lord (my) God who goes with (me); (You) will not fail (me) or forsake (me)" in any moment along the way of my journey each day (Deuteronomy 31:6).

When people "saw the boldness" of Your first disciples who were filled with Your Spirit and growing in Your nature as You expressed Your love and Your power through their lives, they "were amazed and recognized them as companions of Jesus" (Acts 4:13). Those disciples of Yours wouldn't shut up and wouldn't hold back; they weren't intimidated or afraid to be who You created them to be -- witnesses of hope and warriors of love (Acts 4:20).

Just like them, I'm one of Your disciples too. And I'm filled with Your Spirit too. So I pray for more boldness -- the boldness that can only come from deep intimacy with You as companion of Jesus. And with boldness of faith and confidence in You, empower me to live this day so that all who see me and the hope that is within me will be drawn to the love and power and grace You have for each one of them (1 Peter 3:15). In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

I pray you press in to deeper intimacy with Jesus and grow in boldness to live and to share the hope that is within you, in Jesus' name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

Morning by Morning, August 11 - "My Anointed One"

Good morning, Lord Jesus. I am Yours and You are mine. Come walk with me every mile, through every moment of my day. ...

"I have prepared a lamp for My anointed one" (Psalm 132:17).

By the grace of God upon me, by the Spirit of God within me, I am an anointed one. "As for (us), the anointing that (we) received from Him abides in (us)" (1 John 2:27). "It is God who establishes us with (one another) in Christ and has anointed us, by putting His seal on us and giving us His Spirit in our hearts" (2 Corinthians 1:21-22).

And You guide my steps with Your lamp. "Indeed, You are my Lamp, O Lord, the Lord lightens my darkness" (2 Samuel 22:29). Your Spirit within me and Your Word before me lead me through every question I'll ponder and every challenge I'll encounter. "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path" (Psalm 119:105).

Spirit of the Living God, fall afresh on me, rise up within me, anointing me and empowering me to be a disciple and ambassador of Christ today (2 Corinthians 3:3). In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

Morning by Morning, August 10 - Humility of Heart

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Make me more like You today.  ...

"God resists the proud, but give grace to the humble.... Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up" (James 4:6-10 NKJV).

In humility of heart, I want to willingly choose to be desperately dependent upon You alone. Set me free from my selfishness and self-centeredness, from my insistence upon my independence apart from Your wisdom and authority in my life. Forgive me for my pride that says I'll do it my way, instead of Your way and demands my will instead of trusting Your will. Give a heart that honestly says, "not my will, but Yours, be done" (Luke 22:42).

You are the God who "leads the humble in what is right and teaches the humble (Your) way" (Psalm 25:9). You are the God who "adorns the humble with victory" (Psalm 149:4). And it's to the humble You grant Your favor and Your blessings (Proverbs 3:34).

I admit I need a more humble heart. Help me have the courage to boldly entrust my heart into Your hands and commit my will to Your will every day. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

May you experience the blessings and favor of God, as you humble your heart in His sight and allow Him to lift you up and lead your life, in Jesus' name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

Morning by Morning, August 7 - Best Friends Forever

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Speaking Your name and waiting for Your leading in the deep communion of prayer, I want to start this day embraced by my Father, centered in Christ, and filled with the Holy Spirit.  ...

"Thus the scripture was fulfilled that says, 'Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness,' and he was called the friend of God" (James 2:23).

I'm a servant, but I'm also a son. I'm created by God, and I'm also a child of God. I fear the Lord, but by the grace of God I'm also a friend of God. Like Abraham, I believe. And now, through Christ, all the blessings of Abraham are mine --"that in Christ the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith" (Galatians 3:14).

One of the greatest blessings of Abraham is to be a friend of God. You said to Your first disciples, "I do not call you servants any longer, because the servant does not know what the master is doing; but I have called you friends, because I have made know to you everything that I have heard from My Father" (John 15:15). And You are "the same yesterday and today and forever" in Your relationship with every disciple who believes in You (Hebrews 13:8).

Lord Jesus, You are my Lord and Savior. You are my "Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace" (Isaiah 9:6). And You are my Best Friend forever. You are fiercely loyal, forever by my side, through thick and thin and come what may -- "a real friend (who) sticks closer than a brother" (Proverbs 18:24 NLT).  Give me the grace to fully embrace this great gift and blessing of friendship with You every day. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

May you fully embrace the great gift and blessing you have in Christ of friendship with God every day, in Jesus' name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

Morning by Morning, August 5 - "Seek Peace and Pursue It"

Good morning, Lord Jesus. As I speak out Your name and welcome You into my day, my spirit comes to attention to listen for Your leading and rest in Your Presence.  ...

"Those who desire life and desire to see good days, let them keep their tongue from evil and their lips from speaking deceit; let them turn from evil and do good; let them seek peace and pursue it. For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their prayer" (1 Peter 3:10-12).

You are the Source of life. You are the Source of all that is good. You are the Source of peace. So I desire You. I pursue You. I need You to make me more like You.

Let Your Spirit sanctify my tongue and my lips to speak Your words of spirit and life. Let Your Spirit sanctify my heart to desire and to do what is good and to turn from what is evil. Let Your Spirit move in my spirit to "sanctify Christ as Lord" in all my thoughts and desires, in all my words and actions, throughout all the challenges and opportunities of this day (v. 3:15). By the power of Your Spirit alive and at work within me, I will "seek peace and pursue it," as best as I can and all by Your grace (Psalm 34:14). In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

I pray you will be empowered by the Spirit of Christ in you to seek peace and pursue it in all the challenges and opportunities you encounter today, in Jesus' name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

Morning by Morning, August 4 - "Tender Heart"

Good morning, Lord Jesus. I speak out Your name and open up my heart to begin my day in the communion of prayer with You, my God -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  ...

"Finally, all of you, have unity of spirit, sympathy, love for one another, a tender heart, and a humble mind" (1 Peter 3:8).

As I meditate on Your Word and listen for the leading of Your Spirit, I hear words of new song rising up from my heart. ...

With a tender heart
Humble in mind
Let Your Spirit and Word
Be my life

I need You now
More every day
To come show me how
To live my life

So draw near to me
As I draw near to You
Fill me with peace
You are my life

Lord Jesus Christ
I give You my life
I offer each day
As my sacrifice

Come speak to my heart
Come renew my mind
Come make me more
Like You every day

My tender heart
Will always be safe
In Your hands of love
And Your plans for me
Every day of my life

Yes, Lord. In humility of heart, tender to You, I entrust this day and all my life into Your hands -- as best as I can and all by Your grace. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

I pray you will humble your heart, tender to the love and the leading of Christ, in every moment of your day in Jesus' name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

Morning by Morning, August 3 - Rested and Refreshed

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Help me start this day centered in Your Presence and grounded in Your grace, O Lord my God -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  ...

"The apostles gathered around Jesus, and told Him all that they had done and taught. He said to them, 'Come away to a deserted place all by yourselves and rest a while' " (Mark 6:30-31).

Thank You for the gift of ministry. And thank You for the gift of rest.
Thank You for time to pull away for awhile and thank You for the time to get back to work.

We had some time to get away with family to laugh and play with no set schedule to our day. And now Monday morning comes again.

Come, Holy Spirit. Give me eyes to see those around me today who need to see the love and grace of God (v. 6:34-44). Freely I've received, now let me freely give, with Your love and grace flowing through me (Matthew 10:8). Rested and renewed by Your Spirit, use me to lead others to the rest and renewal they can only find in You (Matthew 11:28). You "satisfy the weary, and all who are faint (You) will replenish" (Jeremiah 31:23). And "times of refreshment will come from the Presence of the Lord" (Acts 3:20). In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

I pray you will be rested and refreshed in the Presence of the Lord, filled afresh with His Spirit, to share His love and grace everywhere He sends you today, in Jesus' name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

Friends, I've been away with family for a week and away from sending out my morning prayers. It's good to be back with you and on the daily journey again! God bless you and thank you for joining with me on this journey of prayer, morning by morning!

Morning by Morning, July 23 - "Abounding in Thanksgiving!"

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit -- I worship You, Lord God, in every dimension of Your Being with every dimension of my being. ...

"As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, continue to live your lives in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving" (Colossians 2:6-7).

You invite me to live every day "abounding in thanksgiving" -- not just thankful, not just grateful, not just appreciative, but "abounding in thanking!"

And why wouldn't I? You are the God "who by the power at work within (me) is able to accomplish abundantly far more than all (I) can ask or imagine" (Ephesians 3:20). You are the God who forgives me and saves me and fills me afresh with Your Spirit, reminding me every day "The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness! (Lamentations 3:22-23)

So with my words, with my actions, with my attitude, I consciously and deliberately choose to go through the moments of my day "abounding in thanksgiving." As I speak these words to You in prayer, this profound, prophetic picture comes to mind of Tigger from Winnie the Pooh bouncing along through his day with a spring in his step and a smile on his face. Ha! Lord, I want to go "abounding" along like that today, "abounding in thanksgiving" to You, my God. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

I pray you abound in thanksgiving to God today, with a spring in your step and a smile on your face, in Jesus' name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

Morning by Morning, July 22 - The Spirit of Jesus in Me

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Be high and lifted up here in my heart and every moment of my day.  ...

"By this we know that we abide in Him and He in us, because He has given us His Spirit. God abides in those who confess that Jesus is the Son of God, and they abide in God" (1 John 4:13-15).

Jesus, You are the Son of God. You are "the image of the invisible God" (Colossians 1:15). You are "the reflection of God's glory and the exact imprint of God's very being" (Hebrews 1:3). "For in (You) all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through (You) God was pleased to reconcile to Himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, by making peace through the blood of (Your) cross" (Colossians 1:19-20).

As I confess who You are and embrace Your Spirit and Your authority in my life, You form Your nature in my heart (1 Peter 3:15). "The Spirit of Christ" abides in me and I abide in You (Romans 8:9). Along with everyone who calls on Your name and confesses You as Lord, I "have been chosen and destined by God the Father and sanctified by the Spirit to be obedient to Jesus Christ and to be sprinkled with (Your) blood. May grace and peace be (mine) in abundance" (1 Peter 1:2).

Dear Lord Jesus, Son of God and Son of man -- both in the nature of God and in the nature of man -- let Your Spirit abide in me today. By the grace of God, I embrace "the help of the Spirit of Jesus Christ" (Philippians 1:19). "Christ in (me), the hope of glory" (Colossians 1:27). Make me more like You today (Romans 8:29). In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

I pray the Spirit of Jesus will abide in you and make you more like Him today, in Jesus' name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

Morning by Morning, July 21 - Joy is Powerful and Contagious

Good morning, Lord Jesus. As I speak out Your name and listen for Your leading in my morning communion of prayer, You embrace me and center me and fill me afresh with Your Spirit.  ...

"When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dream. Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy; then it was said among the nations, 'The Lord has done great things for them.' The Lord has done great things for us, and we rejoiced!" (Psalm 126:1-3)

Joy is powerful and contagious. Laughter is good medicine for the soul (Proverbs 17:22). "For the kingdom of God is ... righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit" (Romans 14:17). And You want to fill us with Your joy that "(our) joy may be complete" (John 15:11).

Fill me afresh with Your joy today, Lord Jesus. Father, restore unto me the joy of my salvation and renew a right spirit within me (Psalm 51:12). Come, Holy Spirit. Let my eyes dance with the joy of the Lord and my heart sing the praises of my God. Let "the joy of the Lord" be my strength throughout the moments of my day (Nehemiah 8:10).

Joy is powerful and joy is contagious. Authentic joy, overflowing from a heart filled with Your Spirit has the power to change the spiritual atmosphere of any place on this earth. For Your kingdom is in us and Your joy is us and "the One who is in (us) is greater than the one who is in the world" (1 John 4:4). So may Your joy be released through my spirit everywhere You send me today. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

I pray you will be filled afresh with the powerful and contagious joy of the Lord, changing the spiritual atmosphere everywhere the Holy Spirit sends you today, in Jesus' name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!
