As We Cry Out, He Comes In - July 17, 2020

Morning by Morning, July 17 - As We Cry Out, He Comes In

Good morning, Lord Jesus. My eyes are on You, my heart is open to You, and my ears are listening for You. Come lead me as I listen -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God. ...

"Some wandered in desert wastes, finding no way to an inhabited town; hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted within them.... Some sat in darkness and in gloom, prisoners in misery and in irons.... Some were sick through their sinful ways, and because of their iniquities endured affliction; they loathed any kind of food, and they drew near to the gates of death.... Some went down to the sea in ships, doing business on the mighty waters.... They mounted up to heaven, they went down to the depths; their courage melted away in their calamity; they reeled and staggered like drunkards, and were at their wits' end.  (Psalm 107:4-)

We all face challenging times. We all fall short of the glory of God. At times, we all find ourselves or those we love in desperate places where we're tempted to believe there's just no hope and just no end to what we're going through. We're at our wits' end, where we feel we have no wits or wisdom left, no strength for today or hope for tomorrow -- just hunger and thirst, darkness and gloom, misery and irons, sickness and sin, with our courage melting away 'til we feel like we're staggering like drunkards with our world spinning around and out of control.

"Some" struggle with this; "some" struggle with that. "Some" need this; "some" need that. But we all need You. We all need Your mercy and grace, Your wisdom and strength, Your power and love. And You're always so ready, always just waiting, for us to admit our desperate need of Your alone, always just listening for us to lift up our voices to cry out for help and call on Your name. As we cry out, You come in -- into every trouble, every struggle, every need.

"Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and He delivered them from their distress; He led them by a straight way!" (v. 6-7) "Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and He saved them from their distress; He brought them out of darkness and gloom, and broke their bonds asunder!" (v. 13-14) "For He shatters the doors of bronze and cuts in two the bars of iron!" (v. 16) "Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and He saved them from their distress; He sent out His word and healed them, and delivered them from destruction!" (v. 19-20)

For those places in my life and for those I love, I humble myself to acknowledge my need of You alone. I willingly choose to be desperately dependent upon You alone, as I cry out to You and call on Your name. And with expectant faith in the power of the Your love and authority of Your name, I know You're sending out Your word and reaching out Your hand to lift me up with those I love to get us through whatever we face.

Even before we see it made manifest -- here on earth, here in this storm or sickness, here in this desert or wilderness, here in this gloom or darkness -- as it already is in heaven, I choose to thank You and I choose to praise You.

"O give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; for His steadfast love endures forever! Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, those He redeemed from trouble! (v. 1-2) "Let them thank the Lord for His steadfast love, for His wonderful works to humankind! (v. 8, 15, 21, 31) "He raises up the needy out of distress!" (v. 41) "Let them offer thanksgiving sacrifices, and tell of His deeds with songs of joy!" (v. 22) "Let those who are wise give heed to these things, and consider (and know) the steadfast love of the Lord!" (v. 43) In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

My friend, may you experience the power and presence of the One who comes in as you cry out -- into every trouble and struggle and need, in Jesus name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

Prayer for Revival in San Antonio!
I'm excited to be part of a group of prayer warriors in our community planning times of prayer for awakening and revival in our community and beyond, being led by Max Lucado in San Antonio.

We met in the parking lot this week where the San Antonio Spurs play basketball and our city holds the San Antonio Rodeo at the Freeman Coliseum/AT&T Center to scope out the land and pray. Plans are coming together for a time of prayer in a Solemn Assembly, Holy Convocation of heartfelt humility and repentance through citywide prayer for ourselves and our land on Sunday Nights, August 9th and 16th. A website with details is coming soon! Please keep us in prayer to follow the Holy Spirit's leading. If you would like to be involved and help spread the word when the time comes, please send me a note: tommyhays@messiah-ministries.org
