"Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your kin, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your home.... Rally to us wherever you hear the sound of the trumpet. Our God will fight for us" (Nehemiah 4:14-20).
On this Memorial Day in America, I “remember the Lord” and I remember the men and women who heard the sound of the trumpet in their hearts to stand and fight for our nation. They are our patriots. And this is more than a long weekend.
I honor them. I remember them. And I thank You for them -- for their sacrifice and their service, for fighting for us that we would have the freedom and security You desire for every nation.
Your Word says, “Our God will fight for us.” And one of the ways You fight for us is through those who answer the call of Your command to defend our land, to fight for what is right, by the power of Your grace alongside the armies of Heaven. No surrender. No retreat.
“The Lord is a warrior. The Lord is His name!” (Exodus 15:3)
“Put on your sword, O Mighty Warrior!
You are so glorious, so majestic!
In Your majesty, ride out to victory,
defending truth, humility, and justice.
Go forth to perform awe-inspiring deeds!” (Psalm 45:3-4).
Thank You for warring on our behalf and on behalf of what is right and just and true in our world. Thank You for the men and women who have honored You by allowing You to fight for us through them.
God bless America. And God bless the men and women who have loved her and fought for her. May she continue to turn to You with a repentant heart, trusting faith, and fearless courage to be and to do all You've destined for her -- all by the power of Your grace, as we seek to be one nation under God. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
