Morning by Morning, December 31 - “To the End of the Year”
Good morning, Lord Jesus. As I look to You, You’re changing me into Your image from, from glory to glory -- morning by morning, one day at a time (2 Corinthians 3:18). ...
“The land that you are crossing over to occupy is a land of hills and valleys, watered by rain from the sky, a land that the Lord your God looks after. The eyes of the Lord your God are always on it, from the beginning of the year to the end of the year” (Deuteronomy 11:11-12).
Thank You for the gift of this journey with You “from the beginning of the year to the end of the year.”
Like the land You set before Your people to cross over and occupy, at the beginning of this past year You set before me, as You do for each one of us, an invitation to cross over from the kingdoms of this world into the kingdom of God, from setting my mind on things below into setting my mind on things above, from focusing on the things that are only temporal to the things that are truly eternal. You invited me to come along with You on the journey -- step by step, morning by morning. And so I have.
Like the land, this year there have been many “hills and valleys.” Some of the hills felt more like mountains and some of the valleys seemed more like chasms. But You were with me through them all, encouraging me through them all. You were teaching me, training me, equipping me, shaping me, making me more like You, as You were showing me how live from a deeper place of deeper surrender and trust in You through them all.
“The eyes of the Lord” were on me. And You’ve been training my eyes to be on You -- “looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith” (Hebrews 12:2 NKJV).
So as this year of 2020 comes to a close -- signed, sealed, and delivered into Your hands -- I begin to look forward to the new year of 2021 You’re opening up before me now. You’ve been faithful to me. And by the grace of God, may I be faithful to You.
Just as Your eyes were upon me last year, I know Your eyes will be open me this new year. So as best as I can, all by Your grace, my eyes will be on You too. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
