Morning by Morning, December 30 - Strategically Hidden for the Purposes of God
Good morning, Lord Jesus. As I begin my day, I intentionally turn my attention to You -- waiting in Your Presence, watching for Your leading. ...
“When Herod died, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, saying, ‘Rise, take the Child and His mother and go to the land of Israel, for those who sought the Child's life are dead.’ And he rose and took the Child and His mother and went to the land of Israel. But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning over Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there, and being warned in a dream he withdrew to the district of Galilee. And he went and lived in a city called Nazareth, so that what was spoken by the prophets might be fulfilled, that He would be called a Nazarene’” (Matthew 2:19-23).
Between Bethlehem and Nazareth, You were strategically hidden for a season in Egypt. You weren’t hidden because You had done anything wrong. You weren’t hidden because You were out of the will of God. You were hidden in the will of God according to the strategy of God to align with every season of Your life to fulfill the calling and destiny of Your life.
I think of David who was hidden in the cave from Saul (1 Samuel 24:1). I think of Paul who was hidden for a time in Arabia after his conversion on the road to Damascus (Galatians 1:17). I think of Moses who was hidden in the cleft of the rock while Your glory passed by (Exodus 33:22). And this morning, as I mediate on Your Word for the revelation of Your Spirit, I think of You, hidden in Egypt, that Your life would be spared until the time -- in the fullness of time and fulfillment of destiny -- that You would willing choose to lay down Your life for us (John 10:18).
Give us grace to trust You in the hidden seasons. Give us faith to believe and wisdom to trust that You’re as much at work in us during these times where we’re strategically hidden as when we’re front and center, on the front lines of the battle, or any other place where You’ve strategically positioned us for Your plans and purposes.
As the Son of Man, the Word of God says You “learned obedience” (Hebrews 5:8). As sons and daughters of God learning obedience, may we also learn and trust in our times of hiddenness -- our times of being strategically hidden for purposes of God. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
